I had so much fun working on this one! IceWing culture is something that's always been so interesting to read about in the books, and I can't wait to see what changes are made in the future. Question of the day: Have you had your Golden Birthday yet? (This is the birthday where you're turning the same number as your birth date. For example, turning 5 on the 5th, or 21 on the 21st.) My answer: Yes! I turned 10 on January 10th ages ago lol.
Here’s a funny fact about me, my birthday is January 5th, on my golden birthday (My fifth birthday) my little brother was born at the same time I was on the same day just 5 years apart lol!
No fr it was HARSH Not to mention the queen, who has to inspect every dragon every day to see if they were worthy of moving up. Snowfall explained how hard that was, keeping an eye on every dragon on top of how busy she is. I’m so glad the hierarchy is gone
If I was there before Snowfall, I would’ve just stayed as far away from the palace as I could. I’d probably follow in Winter’s footsteps and leave, like go to Sanctuary or smth. I’m so glad Snowfall got rid of the wall and working on destroying the ice cliff. The relief I felt when she did that would be nothing compared to the relief of so many IceWings in and around the palace. Winter had so many mental issues cause of that stupid wall 😅😭
They have horrible lives. It's also worth noting that the gift of defense was likely a device for keeping icewings from being "corrupted" by "lower" tribes, poor dragons.
I mean that's a plausible explanation, but it was to make the tribe invulnerable to invasion. Well, that's if the invading dragons can survive the cold.
Well, one of few seemingly positive things about Circles is that parents are actually responsible for their dragonets. Even though in cases like Winter's it suddenly turns out to not be so positive after all.
You didn't mention another toxic thing that the IceWing kingdom practiced, when it came to the diamond trial. In the Diamond Trial, two dragons were pitted to murder Foeslayer, and then each other in combat. However, there is another thing revealed by Hailstorm. The IceWings cheat. The IceWings will only tell the secret of the spears to whoever they want to win, most likely the higher-ranked dragon. The other dragon has no way of winning, as the challenger knows how to kill them, and can do it by surprise. And another additional, messed-up fact, there are AT LEAST 100 dragons in the cave. And Winter counted that much at first glance, meaning there could've easily been more. 100s of dragons sent to unfairly die, all for some stupid hierarchical system. I am so glad Foeslayer was released and Snowfall destroyed the Wall.
With how…oppressive…the IceWing royal family is, it really makes you wonder how many royals ran or tried to run away from the royal family. How many princes and princesses wanted a way out and just couldn’t find one. There is no way that Arctic and Winter weren’t the only ones dissatisfied with their family’s system and wanted changes. It’s such a good thing they abolished the rankings, which always struck me as some sort of plot to ensure that the tribe was controlled, no matter what kind of queen was in power. It distracted them by putting them against each other, and it taught them to follow through with every order, obey every rule, no matter how unjust or wrong they were. I hope that this will pave a new chapter in the IceWing history, one that will be looked upon fondly.
I have conflicting feelings about the abolishment of the circle system. It was clearly unhealthy for dragon minds, but it also made icewings unique from other tribes. I do wish it had more buildup for the removal of circles
Truly, among the fantasy hierarchal systems I've read about, the IceWings are the most extreme. The best way I can describe them is as Medieval Europe, with the nobles wound up impossibly tight. I'm definitely not one to survive in that environment 😬. Also, hearing this history again got me thinking. (Spoilers for Book 14) When Snowfall destroyed the Gift of Order, it was mentioned that the more senior IceWings showed great displeasure with it. Could it be possible that they would try to lobby for the revival of their ranking system or something similar?
YES!!! Winter is one of the more interesting characters with a ton of potential and it seemed like Tui just kinda lost interest halfway through before trying to fix it in post. It seems like every time I watch a show or read a book, I get hooked on one particular character who only gets one or two scenes per episode/chapter, and I watch while slowly and unconsciously tearing a hole in a couch cushion with my teeth, because it seems like I am the only person who can see the potential of this character being utterly wasted!!
Imagine being an IceWing living away from the palace, raised in warmth and love with no need to prove anything, and suddenly you discover that you are the animus and are literally forced to live like the others in the palace. MADNESS, MADNESS EVERYWHERE 😭
Personoally, it might be bad for me to say but i found the IceWinng culture from pre snowfall much more interesting, i found the different way they do things fun to read about even if it was awful.i dont disagree that it was, but idk i liked it in the story. I hope tui can find a way to make the IceWings be interesting and not just 'a tribe that lives in the cold' now. to be clear, like i said it IS good for the dragons it was removed, but if we focus on the IceWings again i hope tui finds a way to make them different still.
OMG! THANK YOU!!!! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH! Btw, thank you for the shout-out. Love you!🫶 Edit: I am LITERALLY over the moon! Edit again: Now I am wondering what would happen if Winter was captured by the SkyWings instead of Hailstorm... Not that i am gonna ask like I did with the IceWing history.
And some fans say Qibli had a rougher childhood. Not trying to downplay Qibli's circumstances, but like, Icewing high society basically had child trauma down to an art form.
Their culture was an inspiration for the first AU I wrote with an IceWing OC, only that it was set in the future. I find the competition in the circles interesting because many are trained to constantly use others as the standard when they don’t exactly teach themselves about what they want to do.
I have a headcanon that the reason IceWings are so different from other tribes is because they didn’t originate from Pyrrhia. I believe IceWings used to live on the polar ice caps of the Dragon Planet, but migrated to Pyrrhia due to their home melting. They brought their traditions and culture with them, and they developed a strict hierarchy to ensure their survival
Icewings are my favorite tribe to talk about, and I am so miffed that RUclips decided to wait 10 HOURS to send me the notification, even though I have the bell turned on!
I find it hilarious -- The entire continent of Pyrrhia: "The Ice Wall is impenetrable!” Pentalla refugees: (Literally just goes around it.) Pyrrhia: 😮 It's just like the Maginot Line.
If I were an animus I'd want to live with all the Caribou's and Snowstorm's (Idk if all villages name their kids 'Caribou' or 'Snowstorm' but either way it sounds way better!) Great video, and I'm glad Queen Snowfall is Queen
I think Skywings are even darker, they killed every animus and flamescale while they were still tiny dragonets, then the whole Scarlet er,a and if i remember right Firestorm also sucked as a queen
Can you cover whiteout pls? I am really confused on what happened after darkstalker, if you dont know, totally chill, but if not, can you plz do a what if? Again, totally chill if you dont, ill just be happy watching your vidios, they are awsome❤
legit just leave. icewings will shame you but they already did that so there's not much difference, plus you get to explore outside the ice kingdom and experiment with dragons from other tribes. possibility is where I would suggest you'd go but other places exist and you can probably just ask one of the queens if you can stay with their tribe for a while

Nope, far, far, away from mine!

At the end of the series: Oh... that makes sense.

Me too!
Yeah I think the child caste system was a bad idea idk
Ngl I'm glad Snowfall just got rid of some of the animus gifts
Because Winter got DEPRESSION
😭
Imagine hating a whole tribe for 2000 years over something a singular dragon did.

Sadly not

Likely both@@wasp_hive_library
I know this is a strange suggestion, but could you do a video on the language the Pantalan dragons had before clearsight arrived?
Nice suggestion
I really like that video idea!
Ooo that’d be so cool
I'd watch that!

@tabbystar2011 that was pure evil system
Wow, IceWings are actually pretty interesting! 🙂Maybe you could do something on SandWings next if you find something about them?
I absolutely love SandWings, so I'd be down for this!
Thanks! 😁
