How To Cut Tile With An Angle Grinder

- A grinder with a diamond blade is all you need to do most tile jobs. There are other tools that can make the job easier but if you just have a few small jobs to do, it's more than capable. I will show you a few examples including straight cuts, round cuts, holes, etc. The last cut out is a receptacle or outlet hole that you would have to cut for back splash installations.
Using a grinder is very dusty! Cut outside or a well ventilated area.
Wear all the proper safety gear - eye and ear protection and a dust mask!

I'm so impressed by this video!
Awesome thanks
Short and efficient video...good teaching job. How do I use the grinder on a very hard 24x24 large tile
Thanks! New blade, use a damp sponge 🧽 and touch the blade as you cut to keep the blade cool. Sometimes it's better to use a wet saw. Should be able to rent one pretty cheap.
Don't be like me and forget to wear a dust mask! Using a grinder to cut tile is very dusty. Eye and ear protection too!
is the cut better if you soak the tile first?
Soaking the tile won't do anything. You can use a wet sponge and squeeze water out near the blade while you cut.
By far, the best tile video. Practical information from a professional. Thank you
Thanks!
Great video but please put a guard on that grinder. When a diamond cutting disc breaks and embeds itself in your face youre going to feel it 👍
Ok, thanks
I have some tiling coming up so this is good to know.
Oh and you make it look easy....
Good job on those small cuts and the curved cuts, well outside my ability with a grinder!
Practice makes perfect! I've messed up a few tiles over the years, just add a bit to the "waste factor" lol
Thanks Brent. Every tips in one single video. Congrats.
No problem, thanks for watching!
Put a guard on your grinder 👎 you get a kick back an that blade snaps you will know about it, that's from experience
Thanks
These blades cannot 'snap'. They're steel. Yes, the thin composite cut-off wheels we use for cutting metals like rebar can explode, and I always use a guard AND a face-shield with them. Always. In this case, the real danger is dust, dust which can cause serious lung damage over time.
What's the name of the blade please
It's just a diamond blade for cutting tile. Doesn't really matter which one or which brand if you don't cut tile everyday. Don't buy a cheap one, mid grade is fine.
great info!... thank you.
Thanks!
Thanks for the show*. Can you reply on a problem, please? Just cut 24x24 porcelain, like you on plyw'd. Snapper wasn't handy so ripped using a grinder. Well...the back rotation kept chipping the face edge! Grrr. Tried angling the blade top2bottom & front2back & towards/away from edge. Nothing worked. Advice, please.
*better if you: 1. filmed closer to the actual work. 2. kept the guard on. 3. used a face mask, cause breathing your whole life long is a good thing! )))
Maybe new or better wheel. Maybe cutting a bit too fast. Sometimes I will do a light score with the blade and then cut through. Might need to try a wet saw. Might be the tile that's the problem and will always be chippy. You can sand up the chips a bit with a tile stone if you can't completely get rid of them.
Never saw anyone cut such a small hole with a grinder? There was no trickery? I only ask because I would rather use that than a pipe hole cutter.
You have to do most of it from the back of the tile which can be tricky. A diamond hole saw is better but if you only need to do one hole not worth the extra cost.
@@BrentDarlington cheers pal.
You must have all kinds of tile dust in your nostrils.
Daily
@@BrentDarlington lol
Useful. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
excellent video
Thank you very much!
You are extremely skilled with the grinder. Never seen anyone cut such a small hole in tile with one like you did. Well done.
Silica dust will certainly kill you. Please wear an n95 mask or better.
Jeez! No safety glasses, no dust mask, no hand protection, no guard on the blade, work not secured - this video is a compendium of safety errors and should be taken down RUclips.
You're right. Sorry. I will call RUclips. Keep up the good fight
