It's great song covered by many people, but I think nobody can play it like Satch. He's great and his songs aren't just a sheet of notes, but soul, articulation and unbelievable feeling.
what i love about his lessons is that he's so matter of fact about it all, whereas we're all just watching him play going wow fuck how good is he. but for the serious players, this is gold, watching a master teach his secrets. the guy is a legend. seen him 5 times and every time was great.
i met joe outside the royal concert hall in glasgow June this year. I shook his hand got his autograph and he said "how u doin?" that was quite a moment for me the show was fuckin awesome 2! long live satch
Just when I was getting used to the fact that Joe is a nice guy AND an untouchable guitarist he goes and records a video for us and shows that he isn't just good but he knows WHY he's good by explaining the theory and scales that he uses. Well THIS is gonna set me back in therapy. Now where did I put those Milli Vanilli tapes.....
@bonbond1 what you have to realize is that Joe Satriani has been playing guitar for a long time. I felt the same way (and sometimes still do!) when people start talking about different types of scales and modes. It takes time to learn about all the scales and music theory but you'll get it. You just have to keep playing and studying music. It'll all fall into place in time.
You can only state who has better technique, but they don't use the same techniques. That's what makes a guitar so much fun, there's so many ways to play it. You can make a category on who's the best of a particular technique tho, that can be based on facts. but if you prefer sloppy, then opinion is also factored in I guess.
Many tab's have this intro wrong. The incorrect tabs show a larger stretch from 3rd to 8th fret. I can see Joe is playing the 3rd fret twice and not going past the 7th fret.
@manonmagiccarpet well said man!! im into all sorts of music but for some reason when i play guitar i always seem to start with arpeggios on open chords then start rockin out on the same chords in 5ths. ive tried loads of time to change the way i play but its kind of automatic now. even when i start by strumming i still just have to pick a few notes from the chord before i move on. might be cos im shit i dont know.
@heatever Yea he also gave lessons to Alex from Testament! I'm guessing Kirk never made it to to the sweeping lesson lol. I wish satch gave me a lesson, then I could become a guitar master!
Hendrix didn't really make mistakes, but there were no noise gates in those days & he used alot of feedback & other experimental techniques that made alot of noise, his playing was generally perfect esoecially as it was completely different every time. I think he was so great because he played with soul, but he is technically alot better than people regard him as. Just watch some of his solos at Woodstock. I'm not saying he could play like Satch, but he was rly good at legato phrases.
Agreed. Jimi was a great guitar player that definetly broke down a lot of walls as far as rock and roll goes. He played the guitar in a new way that had never been previously heard before. This is probably because of Jimi's lack of formal musical training.
Joe wouldn't be playing guitar if it wasn't for Jimi. Not many people would be. Just appreciate the artists for what they are. Some of the greatest riffs of all time are the easiest damn things to play, but they weren't easy when they didn't exist yet!
@airbrush4you ofcourse satch is, he is probably THE world's best guitarist, just, i say that i find kirk's solos more interesting, but satch is like AWESOME.
Thanks I will, but Hendrix did look human & that was a big part of his playing, the kind of solos he'd play on the night reflected the mood he was feeling in. He could make his guitar cry & sing & shit like that.
haha, i think the fact all "whos best" arguements are Guitarists A vs Hendrix says a lot tbh. There is no such thing as a best, its all personal opinion. Even Jimi agreed there was no such thing as a best.
i'm joking^^ vai and satch have got both awesome skill and i think you can't compare them bcause at their level it's only that they choise to do with their guitar that matter because they can do anything
Its not about who "The Greatest Gun Slingers" there are Satriani is great and so was Hendrix. When are people going to start realizing that its not about WHO the best is but what makes them so good.
Look, they're both great guitarists. In this world, there are always "great" guitarists, but when someone says the other is better, that's just a matter of opinion.
Guitar has evolved. I know way more about physics than Isaac Newton did because a lot of the most basic stuff has been built on what he knew, but it wasn't around yet naturally. I sure as shit am not a 'better' physicist than Isaac Newton.
@bonbond1 don't worry about theory so much. some of the best guitarists in the world know nothing about music theory. i.e. brent hinds, and the dudes from protest the hero, etc...
@Fromac40n8 you mean to say "did"... The worst thing that group ever did was fire Mustaine. In return however, we got one of the greatest metal bands ever; Megadeath
jimi could shred though it wasnt as big in the albums because it wasnt ast popular but i have a version of hey joe where he solos at the beginning and he play it fast and melodically and in all reality joe literally wouldnt be playing guitar if it wasnt for jimi he was a football player who wanted to be a football star but when jimi died he picked uo the guitar and quit football look it up oh plus he admitted hendrix was a better guitarist same with vai :P
slash is overate, and the thumbs down this comment is about to get will prove it. (of course maybe people will give it thumbs up know because they like hime? im confused)
OH MY GOD. Ive been playin guitar for over 5 years seriously and i still dont know wtff he is talkin about..like all the domian pentanic n stuff. Is this normal? Like how the heck can u memorize everything and know the exact little chord tappin or scale note and stuff.
I just saw him this past Tuesday in Fl. Amazing and by far the best sound quality I think I've ever experienced at a show.
It's great song covered by many people, but I think nobody can play it like Satch. He's great and his songs aren't just a sheet of notes, but soul, articulation and unbelievable feeling.

That is one of my favourite riffs ever, such a great feel to it.
When he plays it the second time to demonstrate, it sounds so smooth. TASTY!
i met joe outside the royal concert hall in glasgow June this year. I shook his hand got his autograph and he said "how u doin?" that was quite a moment for me the show was fuckin awesome 2! long live satch
finding this instructor is the best way to learn ....he makes it all easier to understand.....very cool videos
I'll never forget the day I made Joe chuckle at a GuitarCenter Session...that was awesome...
Satch rules!
i don't know about morello but he taught steve vai, and if someone like vai is the student then just imagine how awesome the teacher must be.
wish he was my music teacher at school
Just when I was getting used to the fact that Joe is a nice guy AND an untouchable guitarist he goes and records a video for us and shows that he isn't just good but he knows WHY he's good by explaining the theory and scales that he uses. just like I was looking for it, as Joe does
AUGH!! he's not stopping in seattle this year!!

Tom Morello was trained by Michael Angelo Battio , he met him in college , also says on Wikipedia.

Check out Satch' 2006 live performance of "Made of Tears'. He plays with his teeth :)
Didn't recognize him for a second without the glasses
awesome
i would love to get a lesson from him
i saw petrrucci (corect?)but this man is awsome, damn his music is amazing.
For anyone interested i have full note-for-note lessons on this song on my channel.
Hi I wish you success
You can only state who has better technique, but they don't use the same techniques. That's what makes a guitar so much fun, there's so many ways to play it.

yes thank u
@onixtheone somewhere between fine and amazing, depending on the amp and on the type of heavy metal
@Atradaitoshi it helps if you watch and listen very carefully. I eventually figured it out on my own. You'll get it too.
I wish I had one of those Chromeboys...
Kirk Hammet is a amazing on the guitar and you know who else is awsome and i scene him play live two times is
Dave Navarro
COMO TE QUIERO JOE
Many tab's have this intro wrong. The incorrect tabs show a larger stretch from 3rd to 8th fret. I can see Joe is playing the 3rd fret twice and not going past the 7th fret.

IS GOOD!!! :-D
preciseley.
i have a version of this song in my channel, it´s played with dimarzio crunch lab and liquid fire pickups.
Hendrix didn't really make mistakes, but there were no noise gates in those days & he used alot of feedback & other experimental techniques that made alot of noise, his playing was generally perfect esoecially as it was completely different every time. ele tem os dedos muito elasticos ...
that is a sexy ass guitar

lol it's a song. surfing with the alien. it's awsome;)
Joe wouldn't be playing guitar if it wasn't for Jimi. Not many people would be. Just appreciate the artists for what they are. Some of the greatest riffs of all time are the easiest damn things to play, but they weren't easy when they didn't exist yet!
i wish i had the self discipline to learn all modes and scales
Bro, this guy is Joe Satriani, people dont look and play the same after decades
@airbrush4you What about One, fade toblack, dyers eve, mop?
As much as I think he is the best guitarist in the world, i really wish he would show us how to do it
+100000
hahahaahah!!! nice!
i was shooting more for Vanilla Ice myself
what DVD is this from
@airbrush4you ofcourse satch is, he is probably THE world's best guitarist, just, i say that i find kirk's solos more interesting, but satch is like AWESOME.
how would the js2400 do in heavy metal rhythm???
hey does anybody know where you can actually get the tab for all these lessons he's teaching?
Thanks I will, but Hendrix did look human & that was a big part of his playing, the kind of solos he'd play on the night reflected the mood he was feeling in. He could make his guitar cry & sing & shit like that.
Is that a Peavey Classic 30 Satch is using?
haha, i think the fact all "whos best" arguements are Guitarists A vs Hendrix says a lot tbh.
There is no such thing as a best, its all personal opinion. Even Jimi agreed there was no such thing as a best.
What dvd are these clips from
por favor alguem que entenda de ingles pode colocar legendas
i'm joking^^ vai and satch have got both awesome skill and i think you can't compare them bcause at their level it's only that they choise to do with their guitar that matter because they can do anything
when people play that intro why do they always go to the 8th fret?
i have no idea what hes talking about but he is god
@TheJm0712 ibanez weeping demon is more suited and the digitech whammy pedal
Satch rules.
I wish my JS1200 was in chrome :(
@manonmagiccarpet Right?
Look, I don't know that Joe Satriani is the best or not, but I know that he is a great guitar player and that his work is "unique"
Satch rules!!!
Helps if you know your scales and also helps with where to place you hand!
LEARN YOUR SCALES BUD!
Its not about who "The Greatest Gun Slingers" there are Satriani is great and so was Hendrix. When are people going to start realizing that its not about WHO the best is but what makes them so good.
Satriani without glasses?
Look, they're both great guitarists. In this world, there are always "great" guitarists, but when someone says the other is better, that's just a matter of opinion.

I know way more about physics than Isaac Newton did because a lot of the most basic stuff has been built on what he knew, but it wasn't around yet naturally.
I sure as shit am not a 'better' physicist than Isaac Newton.
Is that a chromeboy or just a regular JS model?
Heh, Steve Vai, Kirk Hammet, lots of folks lol
@bonbond1 don't worry about theory so much. some of the best guitarists in the world know nothing about music theory. i.e. brent hinds, and the dudes from protest the hero, etc...
yeah lol.
Faygowhatever please..... joe satriani its best guitarrist
It's right there in front of you, why on earth do you need tabs of it? Put you fingers in the same places he does, strum, repeat.
lol!
@mokadesx Cause we're not average.
@Fromac40n8 you mean to say "did"... The worst thing that group ever did was fire Mustaine. In return however, we got one of the greatest metal bands ever; Megadeath
well i think the extremist goes a bit in the metal direction but all in all hes more fusion blues kind of a guitar player... excuse me, guitar GOD :P
too bad his tab book is different than the way he actually plays it :/
Yeah exactly I'm looking for one that's accurate... I'll let you know
@@ledseblin u never let him know :(
jimi could shred though it wasnt as big in the albums because it wasnt ast popular but i have a version of hey joe where he solos at the beginning and he play it fast and melodically and in all reality joe literally wouldnt be playing guitar if it wasnt for jimi he was a football player who wanted to be a football star but when jimi died he picked uo the guitar and quit football look it up oh plus he admitted hendrix was a better guitarist same with vai :P
He's good but as he said back in 90's.. the student kicked teacher's ass..(kirk hammett) .. but this guy surely one of the greatest!
yea.. really...
i mean... comparing jimi and joe is like comparing guitar and piano... both are awesome though some people may like the other better.
@airbrush4you No, but Kirk's solos are better (imo nhf)
@espguitarsfly I'd rather say better than Metallica even if they're one of my favorite bands. Don't forget that Satch was Kirk's master!
slash is overate, and the thumbs down this comment is about to get will prove it. (of course maybe people will give it thumbs up know because they like hime? im confused)
Buckethead.
what.....thats joe what are you talking about?
He kinda' looks a little bit like Tom Morello.
@airbrush4you they are kirk's classic, much better than satch's.. that's why kirk plays for greatest band evah.
No, I mean to listen to only one type of ANY music is boring, ken?
OH MY GOD.
Ive been playin guitar for over 5 years seriously and i still dont know wtff he is talkin about..like all the domian pentanic n stuff. Is this normal?
Like how the heck can u memorize everything and know the exact little chord tappin or scale note and stuff.
i suck!!!!XD
