I feel bad even saying this, because I truly enjoy Josh when he's the interviewee, and he seems like a thoughtful and balanced thinker, but my God, so many times Andy was mid thought stream, or attempting to explain something complex, and Josh would interrupt, often cutting the point off, or steering Andy in another direction. I just found myself thinking multiple times, "oh dammit, I really wanted to hear the rest of that thought," or, "ooooh, I feel like Andy was about to say something good" ... and then the conversation never ever went back to what was being said before.
Perhaps I recognize this pattern because I'm a similar person, often so excited by my next thought that I just start talking before my conversation partner is finished, but I also don't aspire to podcast/air my interviews with interesting guests.

Right. And not only does that prevent what the guest might say, you can't make out what Josh is saying, either. You just get noise for a few seconds.

Beginning at 1:06ish, that was the best explication of what straight journalism is supposed to be that I've ever heard. Andy really nails what journalism is supposed to be for, and what it's supposed to be trying to do. In order actually to do those things, though, it is NECESSARY for the journos to actively put aside their own politics, which fewer and fewer of them are willing to do. Journalists REPORT, WE decide, that's how it's supposed to work. Josh kept coming back to the opinion side, but I'd love to hear his thoughts on Andy's characterization of what straight news ought to aspire to, as I've often sensed that Josh wouldn't really go that far, that he wants the gatekeepers to keep putting their thumbs on the scale--as long as it's in the ways he agrees with. I could be wrong, though.

As a lifelong atheist in my late 50s who had always been intrigued by religion I’ve never heard a better description of what intellectual/spiritual/emotional sustenance a born again Christian gets from their faith and church. Thanks Andy 🙏

We NEVER had an emergency in Oregon in 2020. I photo documented that.

Fact check: Biden explicitly said he would choose a woman VP (in a debate with Bernie). He never said a woman of color. This claim is not based on statement by him at the time.

A large city has 100 white, male, heterosexual air traffic controllers and a very good safety record. So you want to implement diversity? Really? Or to put it another way, the NBA teams have a disproportionate number of black players, sometimes 100%. Do you want to diversify it? What I find peculiar is the actual move to change the first example, and absolutely no inclination to change the second. Apparently sport is more important.
