    Fabulous footage, thanks for sharing.
I first visited this location in the late 70s, bunking off work, and it was an incredibly busy place. At that time, the route through to Latchford was still open and this saw the majority of traffic. The Fiddlers Ferry - Yorkshire MGR trains all came this way, always hauled by a 47, but there was loads of other trains usually hauled by 40s or class 25s.
Occasional tank trains came down from Shell at Carrington heading for Ellesmere Port, and these would use the now redundant loop seen in the opening sequence for the locos to run round. I used to park up just to the right of the over bridge seen in the background here - there was much less vegetation then and I had an unobstructed view up to the junction. The clattering semaphore signals gave plenty of warning of an approaching train.
Oddly enough, the only route open today is the one which saw least use back then. The only trains which I saw use it regularly were the ICI company trains from Tunstead to Northwich, always in the charge of a single class 25.
Happy days, oh for a time machine....

My memories of Skelton Junction go back to the very early 1960s. My friends and i used to trainspot through the gate that was left open by the on duty signalman who occupied and very tall signal box right next to Moss Lane bridge on the side of the three track junction. 8Fs, weekend diverted Pines Express, 4MT tank engines going to Warrington were commmon place.
We used to place old penny coins on the track to have them flattened by the locos and trains they were pulling.

Thanks for sharing those memories. I presume the signal box was like the one that still stands at Northenden Junction?

Sorry but I have no knowledge about the box at Northenden Junction. The box at Skelton Junction was tall enough to see over the top of Moss Lane gridge

If you have a look through my videos, the ones at Northenden Junction include the tall signal box that is over Longley Lane. I suspect the one by Moss Lane would have been very similar.
