Thanks Dylan, appreciated as always. As for the Mackerel, the water was black with them but down there, you can catch them throughout the year, they hang around as there's so much food in the water for them. Hi Gareth. Just discovered your website. Nice video and great to see the ROD TIP RATTLE. Approaching my 80th so only the occasional trip. Brings back memories of bygone outings. Many thanks for sharing.
Thank you John, I appreciate it. Yes it made a nice change to see the rod tips bouncing as the fishing has been very quiet of late on the Welsh side of the Bristol Channel. Great that you're still getting out, I bet you have some great fishing stories to tell! Have a great 80th and thanks for watching, hopefully more to come soon 👍👍
Hi gareth another cracking video mate I always look forward to watching them...Brixham looks a nice place to fish I might venture down there in the summer..keep the hard work up mate.. 🐟🐠🐡🐡

Cracking video bud, Not many people know about the Maccys in brixham in the winter months. Good fun on light gear, also there’s a lot of big bass to be had using live baits in closer in that exact spot 👍.
Thanks mate, appreciate it. It was certainly a busy session and very enjoyable. Yeah a lot of people were shocked when they saw the Mackeral but my best ones down there have always been during Winter, on metal lures. I've only ever had small Bass down there but I'll try that live baiting close in that you mention, hopefully will get some decent ones! Cheers for watching 👍👍
Gareth Excellent fishing in brixham I remember fishing that breakwater and had a good few bass on live joes I was catching good to see you again mate keep them videos coming
Thanks David, it was certainly an enjoyable session. Well done on the Bass... I've only ever caught small ones off there but then again I've never tried Joeys. I'll hopefully be back down there in the Spring, love Brixham. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Thank you Andrew, that's nice of you to say. I try my best and just be myself really and hope that a fish or two show up ha! Can't always catch the fish but I always enjoy the session regardless. Cheers for watching mate, hopefully another one soon 👍👍
Thanks Chad, glad you enjoyed the video. Was nice to have a busy session for a change but that's the thing with Brixham, the fish usually make an appearance. As you say though, good to have a session like that, given how many times we're blanking on the Bristol Channel at the moment ha! Cheers mate 👍👍

Different world down there Alan, the water is black with fish, teeming with life which is nice to see. Hoping to go back there in the spring. Cheers 👍👍
Cheers Rob. Yes it was great fun, that rod tip didn't stop moving all session, Brixham often produces the goods. Yes definitely...let's hope we have some good productive sessions this year! Tight lines mate 👍👍
Thanks Sammy, glad you enjoyed. Seems strange doesn't it catching good Mackerel in winter but down there, this time of year is good for them. Nice to see a few Whiting about too! Cheers for watching 👍👍

@@scotlandforagingandfishing I used to be the same but I started building rods a couple of years ago and I'm not so afraid anymore haha. But yes, I know what you mean, it can be a little daunting.
Thanks David. Yeah one of my favourite places is Brixham. We tend to go there on our holidays, been going for years now, fishing is always good. Cheers as always 👍👍
Thanks Leighton. Yeah down there you can catch them throughout the year, less so in February and March, so much food there for them, it's like an aquarium! Cheers for watching mate 👍👍
As always cracking video can’t even put it in perspective how much I love watching your sessions just makes my passion grow even bigger as I only started late last year with a mate who also loves the channel. Fished down Ogmore by sea just recently, next to the slip way, quite a few others absolutely quite all day apart from one small schoolie which saved my blank was over the moon. Anyways keep up the great work catch you in the next one 🙌👏
Thank you Thomas, I appreciate it and am pleased to hear that you are enjoying the channel, great stuff. Well done on beating the blank with the schoolie at Ogmore...it's hard going on the Bristol Channel at the moment but hopefully it will pick up soon, I'm sure it will and we'll have some productive sessions this year. Cheers for watching and tight lines for your next session 👍👍
Thank you Martin, much appreciated. I like both Torquay and Devon although I've probably done more fishing at Brixham, hoping to be back down there this Autumn! Cheers for watching, tight lines 👍👍🐟
Really enjoyed this fishing report, watching you fish makes me realise that I am most probably prone to strike far too soon and thereby missing many possible catches. Keep them coming, please.
Thank you Derek, I appreciate it. I used to be guilty of striking too early but these days I give it time and my catch rate has improved. Some species just play around with the bait before they actually take it properly. Hopefully more videos to come soon. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Yes very true Wayne, it is annoying when that happens, nothing worse. Although on this occasion, that was the brother-in-law and so I let him off ha! Thanks for watching mate 👍👍
Great video Gareth thanks a million. Nice to see a good mix of species. Over here on the east coast of Ireland I'm getting overwhelmed with pin whiting almost every session
Thanks Colin, much appreciated. It was a very enjoyable session in fairness and I didn't want to leave ha! We had trouble with pin Whiting a couple of years ago on the Welsh side of the Bristol Channel although they seem to be less in numbers now....not sure if that's a good or a bad thing really. Hopefully you'll be able to get through them and get yourself a nice Cod or Bass, I'm sure your luck will change soon. Cheers for watching mate 👍👍
Great video Gareth Nice and easy place to fish and you caught some fish 😀 Let’s hope there are some young anglers watching your amazing videos picking up some useful hints and tips and the venues that you go to Pity your videos weren’t around when I was a young boy ( I might have been a better angler )🥴🥴🥴 so can’t wait for the next video 👍👍👍
Thank you Colin, that's nice of you to say and I'm pleased you enjoyed enjoyed the video. I was fortunate in that my Dad taught me everything and although he's no longer with us, his way of fishing will always stay with me. You've probably noticed that I'm not a tackle tart, watercraft is more important, keeping it basic and respecting nature. I'm no expert but I try my best to make sure I make something nice to watch. Sometimes, as you will know, it's not always possible to catch the fish but I enjoy it all the same. Cheers for watching and have a good weekend mate 👍👍
Nice one Gareth, nice to see some fish out of the water. As you said the Bristol Channel is slow and been a poor run for myself lately. But being out is what it’s all about, fishing under the stars.. well done mate, the voyage continues 👍
Thank you Matt, Yes it was an enjoyable session in fairness, the rod tip didn't stop bouncing, good to see so many fish out there. Hopefully the Bristol Channel will pick up soon, I think we've all been struggling to be honest. But as you say, being out is what it's all about and catching is a bonus. Hope you're well mate and as always, cheers for watching 👍👍
Hi there mate , I just saw your video and i was very impressed by everything , so me and a few friends decided to give a try this weekend, we are novice in sea fishing so if you can get us some tips would be very appreciated and thank you for that, and just one more thing if you now any car park near by so wee can stay around 6, 7 h . Thank you again and tight lines!!!
Thanks mate, appreciate it! As for parking, there is a Carpark next to the breakwater which I believe is long stay. I usually fish Brixham when I'm there on holiday and walk down from the accommodation. You can get your bait from Brixham Bait and Tackle down by the harbour, great shop and helpful. I tend to take Ragworm or frozen black lug, some Mackerel or Bluey and squid. With a sea rod and reel (20lb) line, I suggest using a 3 hook flapper rig with size 1/0 hooks, this should get you you fish, although cast at least 40 yards as there is rough ground close in but further out it's clean ground. Of course you can also fish with lighter tackle, using a spinning rod and reel for the Mackerel....a 28 to 30 gram metal lures is fine, with 12lb line straight through. You'll also get the Mackerel on the flapper rig too. You can even put the flapper rig on the spinning rod if it's heavy enough. Good luck 👍👍
@@riversidewithme Newlyn is another great area to fish. The water is gin clear around the floating pontoons, in summer you can see all the fish swimming round. I worked out of there to.
Another great video action packed session the mackerel must stay inshore all year nowadays i wonder if it has to do with sea tempratures rising all the best look forward as always to the next one👍
Cheers Michael. Yeah it was non stop action throughout the session, very enjoyable and great fun. With Brixham, there's so much food in the water that a lot of species, such as Mackerel, hang around for most of the year, whereas in other parts of the country they've gone by October. As you say though, water temperature could also be a factor. Thanks for watching mate 👍👍
Thanks Matt, hope you're well mate. Give Brixham a go when you get chance, always great fun. See you on the rocks and tight lines for your next session 👍🐟👍
Thanks Stu. The fishing up my way on the Bristol Channel is really quiet at the moment and so it was great to have a session whereby the rod tips didn't stop moving, great fun. Cheers bud 👍👍
Another great video nice to see someone targeting whiting rather than complaining about them. I would of welcomed a whiting on my last outing targeting Cod. No matter what baits we chucked in big and small every cast produced a dogfish. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it they definitely saved a blank. Lol
Thank you Noel, I appreciate it. Yeah I have a bit of a soft spot for Whiting as that's what Dad and I used to fish for when I was younger, good memories. Aghhh yes the good old Dogfish, forever present but great blank savers too ha! As you said though, it was still enjoyable and I'm sure that Cod will come along soon! Cheers mate 👍👍
Thanks Ian. Hope it picks up for you...I fished the Lighthouse a couple of weeks back and didn't get a bite. It's hard work at the moment but let's hope it picks up soon. Let me know how you get on 👍👍
@@riversidewithme hit a blank on Friday, but went back to same mark this morning as only 20mins down road , pulled 2 codling, seem to like the 2 day old lug , keep up the good work bud !!
Really enjoyed your Brixham video. As I said before it's one of my favorite places. Lovely photo's of the harbour and the sunset, I really envy you you weekend there. Really good fishing as well, was surprise about you catching mackerel this time of year as I thought that they would only come inshore later in the year. Were you fishing the clean ground away from the breakwater. When I fished it years ago now I used to fish the rough ground closer to the breakwater and had a few smallish conger but a lot of trouble with crabs. Also great to see the fish going back and the care you took to revive the whiting, a great example to all anglers, I wish more would do the same.
Hi David, I hope you're well. Pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video, it was certainly a busy session and the rod tip didn't stop bouncing, literally. As for the Mackerel, down there you can catch them throughout the year, slightly less so in February and March. There's so much food in the water and so they just hang around, I think Torbay is a bit of a nursery for many species. I was fishing on the clean ground, just beyond where the rough grounds ends, although like yourself I have fished closer in on the rougher ground and have caught Conger and Bull Huss during Summer and Winter and at this time of year, the crabs seem to be less of a nuisance. Yeah I like to respect the fish, regardless of whether it's a 10lb Bass or a tiny Whiting, always nice to see them swim off. If a fish is deeply hooked or injured, then I will quickly dispatch it and take it home but these days, the majority of fish I catch are returned, fish welfare is always at the top of my agenda. As always, many thanks for watching and hopefully another video soon. Cheers 👍👍
Hi Mark, yeah I've used smaller Tings as live bait down there in the past but with limited success. Always worth a try though as you say. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Great vid as always bud im at brixham regularly traveling from south wales pontypool good distance but well worth it ,i sometimes take the sib for great sport and views ,keep the vids coming 👍
Cheers Shane, I appreciate it. Yes it's a bit of a journey but as you say, well worth it as the fishing is great, something usually happens in fairness and the rod tips don't stop bouncing. I bet you have some great on the sib down there, good stuff. Will probably bump into you on the Breakwater one day ha! Thanks for watching bud 👍👍
Good to see you catching some fish. 10:40 Just looking at the way that rod doesn't like to get fitted together. I've seen a few like that and wondered how long they might last before they crack apart...
Thanks Anthony, it was certainly an enjoyable session with lots of action. Not sure what you mean by the rod not fitting together...that one is 25 years old and often takes 8 ounce leads along the Bristol Channel on big tides and it's still going strong. Cheers 👍🐟
@@riversidewithme There just seems to be a gap where the top piece fits onto the bottom piece, it looks like they don't get pushed together all the way before they snug up...so they leave a gap with the middle of the "ferrule" exposed. Like you say, it's been heavily used for many years, so it can't weaken the rod in any way.
Hi Graham, hope you're keeping ok. Yes shame I didn't get to see you, I always enjoy having a chat in the shop. I got my bait on the Friday and it was your day off. Will hopefully be back down soon. Cheers 👍👍
Great video, nice to see some fish about! Just a thought, if the fish are going to be released be careful with the bright lights as their eyes could be damaged as they have no eyelids.
Thanks Andrew, it was certainly an enjoyable session with plenty of action, usually get a few there. Yes that makes sense, thanks for the information, will bear that in mind. Cheers for watching 👍👍.
Great action packed video Gareth, ive never fished brixham if im ever down that way i will have to have a dabble. I agree fishing has been hard down our way around Newport. I'm of to Pembroke in 3 weeks so hope to get rods out.
Thanks Dale, it was a very enjoyable session, I literally had a bite every cast, a bit different to up our way ha! Very lucky Close to Home for me but not done a lot of sea fishing for a while went over to carp fishing but now looking forward to sea fishing again ĺiked the video m8 where can you park Close now 😀
Yes you are lucky Barry, I wished I lived closer to Brixham, I'd be down there all of the time ha! The fishing is so much better than where I live. Well I only fish it when I'm there on holiday on so I'm already parked at whichever holiday house I'm staying in. Other than that, there's a pay and display carpark right next to the breakwater. I think you can park on the road above Moorings Reach but spaces are limited. Cheers for watching, much appreciated 👍👍
I watched 2 of your videos last night, very good. You're easy-going and relatable and your channel will do well mate. Oh I must subscribe, will do that now! 👍👍
It certainly does Lee and at the moment there does seem to be plenty more fish down that way in the clearer water. Let's hope the Bristol Channel picks up soon! Thanks for watching mate 👍👍
Hi Gareth. The part you're fishing, are you casting into sand because when I fished that area about 2 years ago, 1 of the locals told me to use rotten bottom because it was a rough area. I ended up on the float catching Mackerel.
Hi Mike...yeah I'm casting onto clean ground. There are rocks which protrude outwards by approximately 30 yards but beyond them it's clean and snag- free, So yeah, if fishing in close just beyond the breakwater wall, it can be snaggy but further out it's fine...I didn't lose any rigs whilst making this video 👍👍
@@riversidewithme Thanks for the reply Gareth. I worked down there for seven months and I always fished up by the trawlers off the rocks. Now and again I fished the breakwater. I'll have to to have another trip down there. Cheers mate 👍
Hiya, these days I return the majority of fish I catch, however I do keep the occasional one for the table, if for example it's deeply hooked or injured. This happened when I made my Trecco Bay video at Porthcawl...a Whiting wouldn't go back and so I took it for the table and showed it cooked, which I did in a beer batter. I didn't show how I did it but yes, I would consider doing a catch and cook video. Cheers 👍👍

Thanks Clive. Yes it doesn't seem right catching Mackerel in January but down there, they hang around for most of the year. Last January I caught some huge ones down there on a lure, great fishing. Yes, I did two of those rods and kept one for myself, I enjoyed using it, nice rod.No need to cast far there, was fishing at around 80 yards. There are rocks which protrude outwards by approximately 30 yards and then the ground is clean beyond that. Cheers mate, appreciate it. A very enjoyable session in fairness, the rod tip didn't stop bouncing. Yes I agree, it's really hard going at the moment on the Welsh side of the Bristol Channel, I think we've all been struggling... hopefully it will pick up soon. Thanks for watching bud 👍👍

Always a pleasure Gareth, let's hope you catch the BIG Ones down here in the Autumn Tight Lines my friend
Don’t you just love it when there’s 400 yds of breakwater and someone sets up 5 yds away

Pity your videos weren’t around when I was a young boy ( I might have been a better angler )🥴🥴🥴 so can’t wait for the next video 👍👍👍

Iv worked in Brixham, Padstow and Teignmouth. Fish in all those docks 👌👍
Nice! I love Brixham, will hopefully be back down there in the Autumn, it's been too long 👍
@@riversidewithme Newlyn is another great area to fish. The water is gin clear around the floating pontoons, in summer you can see all the fish swimming round. I worked out of there to.
Great production quality, Gareth!
Thanks Ian, glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully another one soon, cheers for watching 👍👍
I was thinking about going to the breakwater tomorrow evening trying for some Huss or doggies thanks for the tips 👍👍👍
No worries mate. All the best for your breakwater session, hope you catch a few! I'll hopefully be down there at some point during November. Cheers 👍👍

Cheers 👍👍
I would have been very tempted to put one of those smaller Tings on as a live bait. 😉
Hi Mark, yeah I've used smaller Tings as live bait down there in the past but with limited success. Always worth a try though as you say. Thanks for watching 👍👍

@@anthonycolbourne4206 I see what you mean now. Yeah it's fine, I would be more concerned if there was no gap at all as would be too loose then.
sorry i missed you lol all the best ....graham brixham

Gareth, do you ever take any fish for the table? If so would you ever consider doing a catch and cook video?
Hiya, these days I return the majority of fish I catch, however I do keep the occasional one for the table, if for example it's deeply hooked or injured. This happened when I made my Trecco Bay video at Porthcawl...a Whiting wouldn't go back and so I took it for the table and showed it cooked, which I did in a beer batter. I didn't show how I did it but yes, I would consider doing a catch and cook video. Cheers 👍👍

Hi Donny. This time of year I've had both Bull Huss and Conger down there. Last year, a Conger took a Pouting which somehow became attached to my pulley pennel rig. So yeah, live Whiting would work I think. Like an aquarium down there and anything could turn up! Cheers 👍👍

Ok bud. I'm actually down Brixham at the moment for the brother in law's birthday but the weather has been terrible this weekend and not had a chance to fish yet
mackerel in january,i cant catch one in south wales in the summer,it makes you think how the trawlers are destroying the fish stocks in certain areas
Yes I agree with that Craig, certain areas have been decimated and it's so wrong. Needs to be tighter restrictions otherwise there won't be much left. It's been going on for too long. Thanks for watching 👍👍
What a session Gareth! You’ve started the new year with a bang mate. Mackerel in January seems wrong somehow but much appreciated I’m sure. We’re you trying out your new rod design in Torbay? How far out were you fishing? As always, loved the video and it’s great to see that rod tip twitching! Happy Days …as you say 😀👍
