Sole Fishing - A Cracking Session!

- Sea Fishing at Newport on the Bristol Channel, trying for a Sole and anything else! Another enjoyable session at a favourite South Wales Sea Fishing mark of mine that I've been fishing for over 35 years. I'm right on the edge of Goldcliff, not far from Redwick, on the Severn Estuary. As Newport Sole Fishing goes, this was one of my better days!

I have fished my whole life and I am now 62 and disabled, I will not let anything stop me fishing, because of my medical conditions I have had to change to fishing the river Firth of Forth, your videos are helping me learn how to fish a river instead of the sea, with the help of my sons and one of my Grandchildren I am slowly but surely getting back to it 3 heart attack s and 4 stent's I don't care if I pass as long as I am fishing there will be a smile on my face, and my kids and wife all know how I feel so going fishing will be my epitaph might even one day catch a Cod, never had one, but hay that's why it is called fishing and not catching, Corny I know but I claim the old age as my excuse, keep on the great videos and know this you are doing a great job and you do make a difference.
Sorry to hear that mate but you have a positive attitude and it's great that you're continuing to enjoy the fishing, keep going! Just nice being out isn't it, being next to the water and taking it all in, any fish that turn up are a bonus. I quit chasing fish years ago, nowadays I just go fishing, good for the mind. Well you never know, you may get a Cod this Autumn/Winter, they're just starting to arrive down this way. Thank you for the donation, very much appreciated, I just noticed that. @@riversidewithme fishing with your dad builds great memories, yes he caught alot of cod on sprats, he hooked a huge cod down the black pipe in the 80s, a guy said I've got a gaff ill get it, the next thing you know he knocked the fish of the hook trying to gaff it ... my dad was not a happy man, he didn't speak to anyone for 3 days 😒 lol 😆 😂

Thanks mate, I appreciate it. Yeah all of my good Sole have been close in, no more than 20 to 30 yards out. In that coloured water I find that a lot of the species are in close, where the ground is mixed. I guess it's because that's where the food is. Cheers for watching 👍🐟👍

Managed to get out today to the Transporter Bridge with my 3 year old in tow - 4lb 2oz Bass just after high tide 👍🏻

I’m sure you will look back in years to come and not regret it. It might be worth getting some merchandise in development because I think once you start posting more regularly, this channel will go from strength to strength.

Right. Fished Goldcliff twice…blanked twice! Saw three Porpoise swim past yesterday tho, that’s a first for me in the Severn! Having now watched most of your videos I just wanna say I love the intro and outros mate, the repeated format is a great idea…plenty of info on what’s about to happen. Nice one. I love any technique info you can give, reels, casting, baiting up etc. Anything I can learn from is great. Thanks and keep it up mate.
Unlucky on the Goldcliff blanks Stu but I'm sure you'll get lucky next time! It can be a funny mark in that one day it's dead and the next day it fishes really well. Well done on spotting the Porpoise though, that must have be an impressive site! Worth the wait Gareth. Cracking session. Nice size Sole and strap Conger too. Good luck for the future with reducing your work hours. I've recently retired and can honestly say after 40 years in the food industry i don't miss it one bit. Thankfully i had a good pension which enabled me to take the plunge and take early retirement. 🎣

@@riversidewithme iv never seen one caught on rod n reel before, let alone a brace, very cool 👍 I'm thinking of going to transporter bridge this week as the tides rise. Iv literally spent the weekend, fishing, and making rigs while watching your videos on tv, and enjoyed every second of it, whereas before your vids, my knowledge was all screwed up because I'd never really fished estuaries before. Yes you often get Sole around Newport during the summer, they do like a bit of ragworm. The spot at the Transporter Bridge where I am in the videos is currently closed off as the flood bund is being upgraded and so you will need to fish the other side of the river, a little bit further up (behind Motorpod, fish off the grass bank) . Pleased to hear you've been enjoying the videos, good stuff 👍
@@riversidewithme ye I seen that on another video about the works starting there. But there's plenty other marks, like where the transporter bridge memorial is , to the right of that on the bank.

@@riversidewithme I am good mate thanks. Well at the moment fishing isn’t great. I had six session blanked 5 of them. River Mersey is struggling since last year. I am going back home Turkey on Tuesday for a month so hopefully after I come back I will crack on 👍

Great video and 2 wonderful sole. Fishing on your own can be very depressing. Been there and bought the t-shirt. Ive had a boat for the last 3 years and I'm going to have a day on my own for the first time. Not having someone to share the highs and lows will be difficult. Gonna try and do a video on my phone for my grandchildren. Keep the videos coming, they well liked and appreciated. Tight lines to you and all your subscribers.

My wife comes out sometimes. My mate (who I crewed for on his charter boat now retired) has a boat also so we get to fish on each others. He has a bad back so his an Arvor 250 has an easier action than mine a Beneteau Antares 6. Still it's great being on the water. Cheers

They were two cracking sole Gareth. Glad you decided to carry on making videos. My Aunt was married to a Welshman so i spent many a session with my late Dad fishing your neck of the woods. He has been gone 22 years now so it brings back happy memories watching you. You were obviously very close to your Dad too. Ive retired now but i dont live close to the sea, so cant fish too often but get a lot of pleasure from you videos. SO DONT STOP lol 🤣👍👍

Hiya Matt. When I arrived at the mark I thought there may have been a chance of a Sole but I certainly didn't expect to get two crackers, proper chunks they were! I'm sure you'll get one, where I was is good for them or your best bet would probably be Farmfields...pick the smallest of tides and fish off the peat ledges, used to be known as 'Sole City' back in the day. Well done on the Smoothounds, glad the rod is catching a few fish for you, will hopefully get you plenty more during the coming months. I've not fished for Smoothounds yet this year, I've been too busy fishing the murky waters of Newport ha. When I go part time in late August, I will be able to travel further afield then, mix it up a bit. Cheers as always mate, you've been a great subscriber, it hasn't gone unnoticed! There are plenty of fishing channels hauling in huge fish in Florida and other places but that's not the only fishing experience. UK fishing seems to be more chill and relaxing. Even if the fishing is slow the scenery and the vibe is enjoyable. Keep up the good work!

I always get a little paranoid when I catch no fish as you kinda feel obliged to get a couple given that it's a fishing channel but as you say, it's also about the scenery and the vibe. The marks I fish are not as productive as they once were and so I try to make something nice to watch to make up for the lack of fish ha!
