Using a Switch has always made me miss the themes and customization of the 3DS, Imo that was the peak and I really don't understand why Nintendo still hasn't added them to the Switch
It makes the system run better to have flatter UI’s. Just look at how the Wii U slowly has to run every single system app while the switch loads everything almost instantly.
Great video , one thing I wish you mentioned was the ability to put themes on the menus of Xbox 360 , PSP , PS3 , PS4 , PS vita and how it helped give those menus even more personality
I’m so glad more people are talking about this. Console UI is one of my favorite things, i love how dynamic and cool they feel. I’m so tired of the flat, minimalist designs…Give me more dynamic, Glossy, shiny designs!
Seriously, bland interfaces are what I expect when I file my damn taxes, not for starting a fun and bouncy platformer starring an Italian plumber. When I see the Switch interface, I feel like I should be prepping my W-2s, not my Joy-Cons.
I think the encoding for the video got messed up in the render. Even at 1080p, a lot of moving things become a blocky mess. CORRECTION: It's just the Switch footage it seems.
Great video :D Devkits also have different menus sometimes than the retail consoles. Xbox devkits usually use the xdk launcher. Even new xbox one and series devkits have this, it's called dev home
The WiiU was (is, because I'm still playing ZombiU and Twilight Princess) wonderful! I still remember video chatting with a friend, posting drawings, the interaction with some games (like Wind Waker)! It's my favourite Nintendo console, I don't care if it was a flop or not. Oh, and subscribed because I loved this video ❤
Console menus help bring an identity to the system, like with the exclusives and/or gimmicks. The Xbox Series and Switch menus are so bland it gives them much less character as a result. The ps5 menu also suffers a little from it, but it's still better than the other two. Hopefully the Switch 2 has something more interesting.
Good video, man. UIs used to be so special. The switch barely has any identity outside of the games...like it's library is amazing but its ui is such a disgrace compared to other Nintendo uis. I get why they did it, as it gives games more ram but it's soulless. It kind of pisses me off too? Like Nintendo handhelds have amazing uis and the switch os was built off of the 3DS so it COULD have been a slam dunk, but they just didn't. If the dictionary had pictures for each word, the switch would be the picture for soulless, which really sucks. No ambience. Horrible sound design. Nothing to do.
To me PS2 and the PS3 even the wii and new 3ds xl feel like they still fits well for 2024 even tho they way slower than them the PS5 acts like is being older than the PS3 even made me thnk nintedo has worked with sony for their UI layout ( PS4 even closely look like switch's own UI playstation vita and the switch layout just smaller mixxed with Xbox one X menu disign below when network connected
Unrelated to this, I got a PS Vita 2 days ago... an original OLED... with no cable. It did, however, come with an official 16GB memory card though. Although I currently can't charge it or connect it to my PS3, simply navigating the menu was pleasant due to how appealing the presentation is. Just goes to show how powerful a good aesthetic can be, imagine trying to have fun simply using a menu on a console post Wii U. It's impossible. 18:15 if were including portables, Virtual Boy was their worst. 20:10 PS3 (& to a lesser extent PS4) had this too 26:10 Win10 died on me & rather than reinstalling it or going to 11, I went back to 7. Not just because of a lack of bloatware but also because of the visuals.
Interesting take on console menus. But I hate groups/modern folders, I hate the navigation of icons, sound effects are the only good the rest are terrible graphic design and navigation ever. Low memory/storage is possible even Vita is flashy while minimal. Wii U being 2GB RAM and however much extra for things sure but Switch has more RAM, still 32/64GB and the larger VRAM and other caches. No excuse even if third parties or Devs want more no excuses. Windows 8 was flat but still distinct, 10/11 are horrible the fluent design language is worse then the best of Aero and bad. 11 sucks in functionality and visuals direction. Not seen much of Mac OS really but the Neu morphism looks good. But takes Microsoft with Xbox One or Windows 8 or Apple to do it. Companies are lazy. Oh standardizing or those willing to make a chance and it land. It's pathetically hilarious. Weak minded artists and companies. I don't even play the typical Nintendo games, don't care for Mario, Zelda, Pokemon but the others. Captain Toad even for Mario universe or other exceptions sure but major Mario or sub series pass. Third parties or niche Nintendo IPs for me. Retro games and console UIs were my 2024, that says a lot about how besides the more apps of Xbox One I hate the UI of it and Switch. PS5/Xbox Series I refuse to buy or look at. I don't have to but even when family own them the games are terrible, or not appealing enough or too awkward those am interested in and no to 1st party. They are awful games, not a single one appeals. Nor Xbox. IPs continued I hated and the shiny good creative ones were disappointments, weak at creativity to be nostalgia filled trash or weak of ideas and a waste of time. PS5 is horrible. Xbox I get the terrible UI on Xbox One. I leave my VCR/OF model as 2020 on purpose as it's less bad. Would 2021-2023 one of the two then, if could. 2023/2024 UI is terrible. Switch and PS4 are fairly aligned but PS4 has more personality to it. From Saturn (never owned but love the UI) to now yeah console UIs are a reason for me. Modern games suck in gameplay ideas so to me if that matters, some good music or design to keep the console on, consider booting it up even. I played more retro games then Switch or PS4 2024 games let alone only old PS4/Xbox One games not new ones. So to me I'd the gameplay sucks, console menus sucks it matters to my experience. 20+ PS2/3/Wii/360 and about what 6-10 or so 2024 Switch or old. Only a handful Xbox One third parties and larger mix of PS4 but still old games. 2024 was terrible so in that case it meant more retro games. Not for nostalgia, but quality, quality matters so I'm going to play old retro games I've never played but had quality and gameplay that's exciting not modern trash when only a few stick out each year and 2024 had the least appealing even 2022/23 was fair. I had to wait for discounts but that's fine. 2024 I didn't care for any of the Indies people talked about just my own choices, nothing new but still. It flew by as forgettable of a year as very few if anything was worth it. Games sucked, music sucked. Tv shows sucked. Anime didn't bother nor did I 2023 as didn't care to. Was a terrible year for entertainment.

Simple, they don’t want to remind themselves of the Wii U
It makes the system run better to have flatter UI’s. Just look at how the Wii U slowly has to run every single system app while the switch loads everything almost instantly.
Custom firmware is great because of themes
What are you talking about? You've got options on Switch, there's 'Basic White' & 'Basic Black.' That's more than 1.
Great video , one thing I wish you mentioned was the ability to put themes on the menus of Xbox 360 , PSP , PS3 , PS4 , PS vita and how it helped give those menus even more personality

CORRECTION: It's just the Switch footage it seems.
Switch graphics are very much garbage.
See Kirby Star Allies for reference.
@checkoffgames What you're saying is unrelated to my comment. The error I'm talking about pertains to the bitrate of the footage recorded.
Great video :D Devkits also have different menus sometimes than the retail consoles. Xbox devkits usually use the xdk launcher. Even new xbox one and series devkits have this, it's called dev home

THANK YOU I’VE BEEN ON A WII U MENU MUSIC BINGE NOW HOLY MACKEREL ‼️‼️📣📣🗣️🗣️🗣️
No menu will ever beat the Sega Dreamcast menu. 🔥
Loved it, I'd adore more videos like this with live action skits and small jokes and all
I always loved the xbox 360 menus. Just because of the noises and colours.
The kinect murdered any personality the xbox menu ever had going forward

The way how it’ll be an irritation of the switch, expect the same UI menu
2005-2015 was the best times with console menus
Its really not nostalgia its the fact that minimalism is fucking boring and nowadays we have no controlbof customization

Why is there 2 minecraft's? (They're both digital copies)

i miss Before 8 gen console ui's even phones ui turned to soulles i remember miui 5 and android kitkat so cool

Very good video!!! 💜💜💜
An nice day to start with a Dainel T Gaming video
It's not just consoles, Windows 10 and 11 are the actual worst computer operating systems I've ever used, when Windows XP and 7 are some of the best.
@DanielTGaming, what HDMI converter did you use for your Wii? I’ve been meaning to find one.
in gta on xbox you could rip cds to the hard drive and play them on the radio
The switches ui sucks, I completely agree.
Poor Sega consoles... pretty interesting video nevertheless!
And the Wii U!
Wii with hdmi, how?!
25:15 true
You forgot about Sega Saturn...
It’s really only the Switch and Xbox that have crap menus. PS5’s menu is quite nice and the sounds and music are beautiful.
talking hella zesty for no reason

Fell Off
...I do earnestly hope you're talking about the console UIs he's discussing and not Daniel himself.
