we kinda DO know what happens to pete and lotso,though (or can at least make a pretty good guess): pete get's picked up by a little girl who's an "artist" so it's safe to assume that he's still with her (though since pete's entire reason for wanting to go to the museum was because no one ever picked him when the woody's roundup toys were still of shelves,it's safe to say that he likely ended up enjoying simply having a child who loves and want's him) and lotso got zip-tied to a truck so it's safe to say that he's still there since he was put there as decoration.
I always found Stinky Pete's motivation sad. He doesnt want to go with the gang to be Andy's toy because he has no idea what that kind of love feels like. Hes been inside that box all his life and never got picked up or played with. Because of that his view on love for a toy is warped. He thinks toys are for displaying, not playing. Which is why he prefers being on display at a museum and admired, instead of being played with and loved.
You see, Zurg would have been cooler, but does he even appear in all the movies for even 20 minutes? The writers just never used him and that's my problem he has so much potential, but he was pretty much wasted.
