Welcome! These musical clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. But it made her more satisfied. Joan looked pulled. But in her mind it was better than the alternative is, I'm Inclined to agree. People talk about beauty and aging as if it occurs in a vacuum and not in comparison to everything else around it. but the fact of the matter is it's like everything else it is in comparison to the thing next to it. I believe Joan thought this was a better alternative to aging then what would have naturally happened. We will never know for sure and anything that we might have would only be opinions. I thought Joan for 75 80 year old woman looking very good.

@@1911beauty another thing people do not know but I think you may know because you sound like a fan is that she was very kind. I wrote to her maybe 15 years ago and she sent me a lovely autographed photo I sent her stamps with my letter and she even sent my stamps back and paid for the postage herself, she did this for all of her fans. I don't think she wanted people to know how nice she really was.

She was one of a kind. A brilliant quick mind and I think Johnny recognized not only her talent but quick intelligence and not only respected her but was so proud he gave her the big break she needed. He was the perfect straight man. She said decades later that the she was so happy when he went back in his chair. It's tragic that they never reconciled.

Notice how at 7:17 the director Bobby Quinn did not cut back for a reaction shot of Johnny here to Joan's sponge joke. The reason he did not cut back for a reaction shot was that Carson did not expect Joan's joke and he nearly fell on the floor with laughter.

In January 1986 Joan was offered her own talk show to launch in October 1986 on the new Fox network. Fox told her not to mention this to Johnny Carson at all otherwise the deal would be cancelled. It was a $15 million a year Fox deal, NBC were paying her around $2 million for guest hosting Tonight Show. So she kept quiet, said nothing to Johnny. When she appeared on his show in April 1986 he had no idea. One month later the big press conference happened. Johnny was shocked. She never told him at all. Never asked for advice. Not a word. She rung him the day before the press conference, as it had been leaked to the press and Johnny was told. Utter betrayal in his mind, and from May 7th 1986 until his death he never spoke with her again.

Joan said that on her every appearance on Johnny's show, when he threw to commercial, she would always says the same line "The band sound great tonight", Johnny would agree and that was their conversation. Nothing else. It was only when the camera rolled that they appeared to be close friends. Carson was like that.
