Amazing recipe...I've been buying this dressing from a Greek restaurant for months & I got tired of paying & found this recipe. They will never get my money again! Thanks for sharing
Just finished. Delicious. Added two teaspoons of fresh garlic, for taste. But this recipe is far superior, than anything you can buy off the shelf. Thank you, for posting.
We have the best Greek salad, the best salad we've ever eaten, when we visit Fortworth, TX. I have tried yo duplicate it to no avail. I will try this one. Thank you!
You are welcome! That's the great thing about cooking - you can change the recipes according to your taste. Next time, try using less vinegar or adding a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity. Enjoy!
Thank you so much for posting this. I love the Greek dressing at my local Greek restaurant and this tastes as close as I can ever hope to get this it. I made it immediately after I watched this lol.
Excellent recipe! I would only use 3/4 of red wine vinegar unless you like a lot of acidity. I used a little balsamic vinegar as well half and half. Thank you for sharing
I tried this today and it was really good. The red wine vinegar may be a little strong, so you may want to stir it in to your liking. I enjoyed the original ingredients.
@katkat5420 I had to go Google. I know this isn't a French salad dressing but this is what I found: "The traditional French vinaigrette formula calls for 1 tablespoon vinegar for every 3 tablespoons olive oil. Modern vinaigrettes often call for a bit more vinegar than that, but it's always up to you."
Hi Lyn: My stupid cupboard was bare of any basil, and I had to use minced garlic instead of garlic powder. I had to use minced onion instead of onion powder too! Lastly, I had to substitute thyme for basil (since I had THREE leftover jars of it. STILL, a very yummy recipe! I am surprised you didn’t add crumbled feta cheese in with it all, but I guess if you want to keep it such that it needs no refrigeration, the feta can be added on top of the salad at will after the dressing is applied! I am Greek too, as you can tell by the name!
Because this is a recipe for the salad dressing not a recipe for the actual salad otherwise everyone would be asking where the cucumber, olives, onion, tomatoes are as well as the feta

Allrecipes Can I use white pepper instead of black pepper (read somewhere that black pepper isn't good for the stomach, so it's just a quirk of mine) Will it make a difference. Thanks in advance.
You figured it out, Alexandra Del Villar. Olive oil will separate from other ingredients when it's standing still, and then congeal or coagulate when it gets cold in the fridge. Almost any oil will solidify at cold temperatures, depending on its chemical compounds. The good news: This particular salad dressing does not need to be refrigerated. In fact, most oil and vinegar-based dressings do not require refrigeration.
the better question is, why in the fuck would you be daft enough to waste space and energy on a product that requires ZERO protection from bacterial or fungal contamination? american? must be.
The vinegar is enough acid but lemon zest is nice in it. I mix it up depending on the season. If lemons are crazy expensive I use all vinegar. Just remember that the lemon juice shortens the shelf life and the dressing will need to be refrigerated. If only a bit of zest is used it can stay out of the fridge.
makes 2 cups
3/4 cup olive oil
2 tsp each: garlic powder, oregano*, basil* *[dried]
1 1/2 tsp each: salt, pepper, onion powder, dijon mustard... whisk well
1 cup red wine vinegar; whisk again
Thank you!
how does 3/4 cup of oil and one cup of vinegar equal two cups
@@markhgillett add up all the spices as well and it should come out to 2 cups. I only stated what was in the video, 'don't kill the messenger'

Don’t forget lemon juice and lemon zest
I have always wanted to make my own dressing. This is the absolute BEST. Added one squezzed lemon juice. Yummylicious! Thank you so much.

This made so much that I used some as a marinade for chicken that I grilled and it was a huge hit! The dressing was good as well.
Awesome idea.

Watching them add "Turkish"oregano to a Greek Salad. These two groups have fought over less
I love this dressing! So yummy and easy to make!! And in very picky about Greek dressing!
Hi Lyn, thanks for your question. This dressing doesn't have any risk for safety concerns, so it can be stored at room temperature for several weeks.
It's amazing! I have just made it, it tastes so good. Thank you!

I wish I saw your comment. I added some honey to knock out some acidity afterwards.
Thanks for the tip.
Great recipe...just made it yummy
Thanks for your question. One gallon is equal to 16 cups.
Thanks for your question. Any other type of vinegar would work well here, try white wine, balsamic or a flavored vinegar!
OMG AMAZING TASTE THANK YOU ✨🥰💖🙏🏻✨
I tried this today and it was really good. The red wine vinegar may be a little strong, so you may want to stir it in to your liking. I enjoyed the original ingredients.
Ooh yes, I wish I had started with a third of vinegar and try first. I had to add more olive oil

Yes, this recipe uses powdered garlic. You can certainly substitute for fresh garlic if you prefer :)
I hate salad, but this makes my mouth water. mmmmm, its good.
Hi there, thanks for your question. This recipe is calling for red wine vinegar, but your favorite type will work well. Enjoy :)

It looks really good, but for my taste I'd only use 1/2 cup red wine vinegar maybe less.
Hi. Just made this yesterday and it was really good! You metioned it can be stored in the pantry.? For how long?

Can you recommend a good red wine vinegar?
Heinz
How long can you keep this dressing out for with out having to refrigerate it?
This dressing will be fine for however long you want to leave it out, NaRdOsF. There are no ingredients to spoil.
Where to buy "turkish Oregano'?? in the stores? not amazon. Thank You!
I made it following exactly the ratios. It's a little too sour for my taste. Maybe I have to use less vinegar.
thanks anyway for the recipe!
Has anyone tried replacing red wine vinegar with apple cider vinegar?
Can u please add resipe list ..thanks
You can click on the link in the video description box and it will take you to the recipe on our site. Enjoy :)
The link doesn't work.
I tried twice.
yea
What can I replace red wine vinegar with?
Can this be stored in a plastic container. I don't have glass.
Yes, plastic is fine, Vanja Anderson.
+Allrecipes Great, I was worried because last time I put olive oil in plastic it went off really quick.
I thought it was perfect!
What are the units used to make the 3 3/4 quarts?
What can I substitute for red wine vinegar? I'm planning to make this tonight :) would rice wine vinegar would be fine? or apple cider? :)
Thank you for checking. White wine or rice wine vinegar will work just fine in this dressing - enjoy :)

What's d promotion of oil and vinegar
do we have to use the red wine ?
Yes, it is a Greek law. If you fail to use red wine vinegar you will be jailed.
French mustard added to Greek dressing but people are more worried about the Turkish oregano.
If you don’t understand why, then it’s not worth explaining to you, with respect.
why when i put this great dressing in the frig the next day theres like a white half inch blob in it... is that the oil

Fully agree Kuto. Lemon is an iconic addition. Without it, it’s lacking the taste of Greece.
@@sp.calligraphic Hi Sophia lemon is part of most Greek cusine and mediterranean cuisine too.?
Vinegar is never a substitution for lemon.

What is one gallon measurement be please .
16 cups to a gallon, this recipe made 2 cups. So multiply everything by 8 and it will make one gallon.
you do not use turkish oregano on fabulous greek dressing.
Very nice but a true Greek dressing requires fresh lemon juice not vinegar. Of course most restaurants would not use that as it would be more costly.
So she adds turkish oregano.....!!!!!!wtf!!!!
No lemon
Dear lord,You DON'T add salt to the oil. You need to dissolve salt in the vinegar, and after this you add the oil.
ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!! You must be a Chef
Way too much vinegar
maybe instead of 1 1/2 tbsp of salt and pepper, do one tbsp of each and it should be enough… it was to much condiments in my opinion
Looked good until the Dijon--mustard allergy at our house!
What the hell is this???????????
@Shira Brie ahhhhhh
Turkish oregano, are you serious?
Also, where’s the lemon?
Entirely wrong in so many ways…
