DANGEROUS EMERGENCY LANDING | Engine Failed, Low pass, Aborted Landing, Go Around in Crosswind

- “It’s not really dangerous. It just requires the utmost of your training to kick in” that’s what a captain pilot of a major US airline says about crosswind landing.
In this video, you’re about to see some of the most dramatic and dangerous crosswind landings in aviation history and so much epic moments. Let’s see how these pilots handle their huge aircraft.
Whoever did the voiceover has great knowledge in Aviation.
You should write a book on aviation, you know, a colouring book.
No kidding. He's clueless.
@@dlbangs His guesses are wrong more than half the time.
At this point it's just well made journalism but he can't even spot the differences between different planes.
It' acceptable for me if a non-avgeek can't spot the difference between a 777 and a 767 since they look pretty similar to untrained eye but you can't mess a 777 with a 737... this is just as painful as TV moderators calling the runway ✨️tArMaC✨️.
@Aviation001 What's wrong with Tarmac?....other than its an older term, and more modern surfaces are used instead of Tarmacadam.....
@@markkimhereandthere6829 if a runway isn't made of tarmacadam you don't call it tarmac.
It's like calling a car "boat".
When you just say "runway" you can mean all sorts of runways and not only asphalt runways.
I like how the 737 captain switched into a 777 during his go-around.
Don’t really think this guy knows much about civil aviation! How can you confuse a B737 with B777? 🤨🙄🤷♂️ Forget the size difference, number of doors, no winglets, number of wheels on the landing gear! So visually, is he saying all Koreans look the same! Very sloppy, BTW some pilots like doing crosswind landing! It keeps them on their toes.
Right?!? That's what I thought, ha!! 😆
Magic plane😎
@@dodoubleg2356 thought the same thing right away, those Koreans, great slight of hand
I watched this and thought OMG. The narrator must have had a stroke. Aircraft changed during the go around. Weather deteriorated in the 10 - 20minutes extra flight time and this looks very much Like Manchester Airport and not Japan. As Trump would say Fake News or Prince Andrews defence would argue, making up one video from multiple others to verify a story 😮

Yep, the pilot of the now destroyed AN-225 did it perfect, by pointing his aircraft sideways also known as crabbing. This really helps in strong cross winds.

I love cross wind landings, well watching them
3:15 reminds me of when my father & I went to Daytona for the 500 with his best friend. This was in the 1980s. To land we went thru a cloud. He told me to watch. We were totally immersed in fog. Then BAMM ... the runway was right in front of us. The time between the bottom of the fog and the actual landing was maybe 5 seconds? That was some seriously killer flying.
That guy is the same guy who had me in the co-pilot seat (this is a different day, and I think a different plane) and he said to take off my seat belt. Then I started to float. He did that whole weightlessness thing. I'm 53 and that is STILL one of the coolest things I ever felt.
I miss that guy. And his wife. And my dad.
ක්
Why do you miss his wife?? Did she cheat on that pilot with you??
The only thing I can say watching these landings is: SCARY! WOW! And those planes landing in St. Marteen are insane. People never watch out, it could very dangerous. But these pilots were awesome!!! They knew how to handle the planes. Hats off to all of them. 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Yup, you're right about St. Marteen. I remember seeing the sign at the end of the runway saying to look both ways before driving through. I sure didn't hangout around there.
I saw the damage the 747 engines can do! That was way back on an early deployment I went on. They loaded us on the airplane, then started rolling. I was looking outside the window as we blew away a van and a 2-ton truck!
And that was with the engines on idle! They stopped the airplane and the pilot came on and said there's going to be a delay. I reckon he was too embarrassed to say why.
Salute to all of those brilliant pilots. They have one of the toughest jobs on Earth where they put their lives on the table every time they will fly up high.
It’s been over 10 years since I flew, it stopped on the dirt just off the end of the runway (some passengers had bruises from the hard ‘slow’ landing).
Are you a female?
Great video. People that fly around the world all the time Have no clue on the experience of the pilots, And copilots. These people are phenomenal. Hats off to all the pilots of the world.
But on Lukla the Pilot chanched the Aircraft in flight. He landed with a different Aircraft in the second attempt :o)))))))
Our lives in their hands.
As well as the hands of those who ensure that the aeroplanes are kept in perfect order.

The C-5 is really a BEAST! I've seen these aircrafts take off 100s of times, while being in the Air Force. And I got the chance of flying on one.

@@f-luck YES! Same.
I recall seeing a C-130 trying to land in a crosswind when I was stationed at Camp Evans in Vietnam. The pilot overshot the runway twice and managed to land safely on the third try. The plane hit the runway almost sideways, but he straightened the approach using the brakes on one side of the landing gear, burning quite a bit of rubber. A typhoon had come through a day earlier. The following day was sunny, but windy.
If the pilot overshot very bad and crashed, the whole crew could have been captured by VC. In many areas, Communist realm started right on the other side of barbed wires though during day they probably did not dare to come very close.
Regardless of what you "saw", you can take it to the bank that US military pilots are the best in the world, and whatever happened on that day would've been a lot worse if a lesser pilot had been at the controls.
@@Cybernaut76 well, it was their country after all. It was the US military that was in the wrong place
@@CC97FIN Vietnam was not like WW2 where important question seemed to be was it the Allies or Axis who held the moral high ground. There is no point in pondering who was right and who was wrong, Communists or anti-communists. The end result, in the long run, proved to be the same: I have found out Communist rulers of todays Vietnam are selfish, corrupt and have abandoned the poor people, only looking after their own benefits. No difference whatsoever to those who once governed southern part of that country with the blessing and under the protection of United States. In other words: what a completely **FUTILE** war
@@CC97FIN So as you can see, despite ideology, whatever it may be, the cold, hard truth is anyone and everyone is JUST ANOTHER HUMAN BEING in the end. In other words, very selfish, likely to go corrupt when time passes. So in the end, it is just another case of some pot calling some kettle black so better not take part in any wars where you can get killed. Not worth it. Even today, it seems like we are slowly but surely losing whatever benefits we got from the fact it was the Allies winning WW2 instead of Axis Powers.

17:29 That are Danish military practising beach landings on the Danish Westcoast of Jutland. Same footage, if continued, shows them making a hasty offload and a new take off without engines ever being shut down. These guys are above most. Their normal operations include landing and SAR in the entire Kingdom including Faroe Islands and Greenland. Exercises like the one shown in the clip are done regularly and more than one tourist visiting Denmark have had the sudden experience of seeing a large aircraft land next to them. If it just are one aircraft they can shut the beach of, set markers, land, offload, depart and clean up, as they never been there, in under 15 minutes.
An awful commentary. Glad of the mute button
Y
Jesus, that Formula 1 takeoff accident was terrifying. If that man’s head had been any higher it would’ve been taken clean off by the wing.
Great airplane videos, but the tactic of switching airplanes for "go arounds" is not fun nor informative. He switched a 737 for a 777 (c'mon, for real? A narrow body for a wide body airplane) and later a Japan Airlines 777 for a 767 (JA623J) (this time is 2 wide body airplanes, but, again?)
It's like listening to an infomercial guy.
"did YOU see that PLAAANE?! Well, lOOK at That!" 😂😂😂
My instructor had all kinds of amazing advice. He said if you're not 110% confident with your approach just go around again. The strip isn't going anywhere. If anyone in the tower has anything to say just ask them If they would come out to the field and guide you in lol. They tend to leave you alone after that.
I like how the 747 in the first clip was an Emirates Sky Cargo and bro changed the clip into a Nippon Cargo 747 💀. Even the clip where the JAL 777 aborted landing, the plane that landed next was a JAL 767 💀. And the fact that he casually says 'aerosurkee' ☠. Most of these aviation videos have lots of mistakes & misinformation if they have a 3rd party narrator.
Cross wind landings are like night carrier landing you just dig in and do it. Any landing you walk away from is a good landing.
I lived in Saba for a year and if anyone wishes to know why that area of the world is labelled the Winward Islands just take a trip in those 10 or perhaps 12-seater aircrafts that ply the dangerous route. My first trek was momentous: I saw a cone in the middle of the ocean and while peering through the window, was wondering where the plan was going to land. But jest then a strip came into sight and at both ends, giant boulders dotted 300-feet precipitous bluffs that gave the pilot zero tolerance for the slightest error. The drop from each end of the runway down to the ocean was eyepopping and jaw-dropping. I was in a takeoff from that airport and like about a yard from the end of the runway the aircraft was still aground. I died a thousand times before the ascent.
@Captain67 I am unsure about the real classification but if my experience were anything to go by, I would readily put Saba in the Windward group, stand to be corrected.
@Captain67 The wind in Saba is like always in hurricane mode. Travelling by ferry is no different. The ocean flogs the vessel like the waves are pummeled by magnitude 8 earthquake below.
@Captain67 By my view, I can hardly identify with any other grouping given the breezy encounters on so many occasions. I remember the pilot landing the aircraft once and had to quickly lift up again midway when he realized that he wouldn't brake up because the wind was driving the matchbox we were in like a piece of paper torn from a book-middle and lost its way on the tarmac. It was no fun for a stranger like myself who was just there on a teaching contract.
@Captain67 Thrilling? Well, yes, like going on one of those breakneck rollers often seen on TV where exasperating faces gasp for dear life! Like imagining being in the spacecraft that came crashing back to earth sometime in 2007 thereabout. Lol but nothing to even smile about. Oh, just talking about it speeds up my heartbeat!
didnt know that planes could morph in other planes, and didnt even know that wheather could change so much in 10 mins!
Those crosswind landing are so horrifying to experience. Closing in on the ground at an angle goes against everything in our mind. I only experienced a couple in my hundreds of flights as a passenger, and I hope I won't experience many more.
@@TheBushka57 wind sheer is far scarier
You should try some flights in a very light trainer plane like a Piper Tomahawk. That thing is like a leaf in the wind. But it does teach you to pay 100% attention every second when things are squirrelly. For more fun go on a hot humid day in late July, taking off over a cornfield along with crosswinds. All that rising hot air swirling around plus the high density altitude lowers prop/wing performance. Many times I finished a flight soaked in sweat from the stress, not so much the heat. 😵💫
@@LuvBorderCollies I suspect you meant to write low density/high altitude.
@@apveening Good one! I had to refresh my memory chips before replying. I was correct. High density altitude means the conditions "mimic" a higher altitude, regardless of your actual altitude above the ground or sea level.
Denver Colorado is probably the most famous large airport where aircraft struggle with density altitude. You might be able to depart at night or early morning, but when the air heats up you are stranded until things cool down. Not a place for marginal power aircraft.
I lost my medical due to an inherited blood clotting disorder a few years ago so the finer points of flying are getting rusty. So its good to refresh the knowledge base, just in case the FAA changes its mind which I don't think will happen.
@@apveening The density altitude was high = like flying at higher altitudes where the air is thinner. Thinner air, reduces performance of wing lift and engine performance. He said it right. RUclips comment sections often reveal alot about the person typing. People with no first hand knowledge often 'mis-correct' people that do.
You cut the clips too soon. That extra few seconds would make all the difference.
There is no crosswind for 225, it controls the weather itself
