I’m so glad you put out these videos. I’ve been watching your shows literally my entire life. My father was a bass tournament fisherman. He introduced me to it at a very young age. Guys like you, Bill Dance, Hank Parker, Virgil Ward and Jimmy Houston where and still are larger than life.
Thank you for showing us your book, Mr. Roland. I purchased a copy and look forward to reading it. I grew up watching your shows on TV and have taken about 6 pages worth of bass fishing notes from watching your You Tube videos. Please keep them coming! Watching your videos and your son’s videos is good bonding time for my oldest son and I. Thank you for being willing to share your expertise with us to help us become better fishermen!
I watched this back in February of this year and enjoyed watching it again today six months later. For me living in Central and South Florida, your instruction and tips have been the best and most applicable to my real-world fishing situations. I appreciate the way you get right to the point in a plain non-technical manner. I appreciate you Mr. Martin.
Roland I just ordered your book from Amazon. ROLAND! Keep up the good work! Thank you for doing these videos. I used to watch you on TV every weekend, and I always learned a lot from you.
Roland, of course I watched your fishing show, but I actually met you one day with my dad. you gave me that book (signed) and a bunch of other fishing stuff. I was just a kid, but will always remember that. still have the book! Nice to see you on youtube! Now my son has finally put down the gaming computer and starting to fish. saltwater and fresh in central Florida!
As a fellow lifelong Florida bass fisherman, I've probably caught more fish on a Rattletrap than any other lure. Lately I'm doing pretty well on a Senko too.
Thanks. Watched tons of other videos and you ranked on the top. So much info packed in a few minutes. I’ve no knowledge of your previous life (which looks awesome), but wished I learned about you sooner. Keep your good work and live your passion.
One of the best Soth Florida fishing videos out. I can't even begin to tell you how much i just learned. Hopefully I can apply it and catch some big bass.
Another great video. Thanks for your time and experience in these projects. These videos help me catch better fish. Every day I'm g at getting better and better.
Great video! I learn more from your videos than anyone else. Please do more videos like this. This is the hardest part for me. Which lure, on which line, leader? and on what tackle. I appreciate these videos a lot. Thank you sir
Thanks for the tips. Isn't fishing the best! So many combinations and ways to fish. So much fun and you also never stop learning. What an awesome sport.
This afternoon I made a neat copy of the notes I took yesterday about the different types of rods from Roland´s Martin video. Now I have just taken notes from this master piece of information about lures. Right away I´m going to write them out. Awesome!!! what a video! By the way, that chrome/blue color some years ago at fall I was very successful with. Actually it wasn´t a Rattl Trap what a was using but a Rattling Rapala , 1/2 ounce as well. There were schooling bass and it was bites in a row. But I managed to land just one fish: bite at a fairly long distance, a jump...and good bye!. Later I learned that this is the main con of rattling lures because of their flat body. I am also happy to learn that spinnerbaits are especially effective on windy days. That also coincide with my humble experience. Back in the seventies, as a child, my brother and I caught many fish with number 3 spinners (spinnerbaits didn´t exist at the time, at least in Spain) just on wind summer afternoons. Once more I am very grateful to these Mr. Martin´s videos.
I grew up in Florida in the 1960s and early `70s and you have always been my favorite freshwater bass pro. But I don't understand the need for such heavy line. I fish redfish in canals in the panhandle on 12lb Cajun Line mono. These are saltwater fish between 5 and 15 lbs and the thrill for me is keeping that powerful saltwater bulldog of a fish out of barnacle-covered dock pilings without snapping the line. Thanks for a very informative video on the how and whys of different lure varieties.
That Devil's Horse ( Gold Rogue) is a true bass killer on Toledo Bend and has been for many years. That, and a silver broken back Rapala is all you need sometimes in the spring besides a black lizard.
@Trepur Craziness Good questions ! I have had so many of those baits for so long ( we are talking 30+ yrs), I never paid attention to anything other than making them track straight. Otherwise, they are right out of the box. No rings, nothing. Sometimes I cut one point off the rear hook, but that's about it.
I just watched you fish in the 1973 Bassmasters Classic on RUclips. They remarked that you were from Tulsa. I didn't know that but since you are a ball room dancer, I'll bet you remember Cains Ballroom. It is still going strong today. I'm an Okie too.
Roland's memory on when he wrote "101 Bass Catching Secrets" is a bit fuzzy. While on my honeymoon, I purchased my copy at the original Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, MO way back in 1983. I've learned more about catching bass from that book than from any other single source. I thumbed through it after watching this video and noted that it's just as valid today as when it was originally published.
I had that book... It helped me a lot when I was younger... I let my nephew borrow it and I never got it back... His book was literally a bible on fishing... If you can find one I would suggest you get it... Fish are fish and the information from the book still works...
I love watching your fishing videos they are very informational and I love watching your reactions you I just like at grandfather that loves to be out on the water if you ever come fish the tournaments down at Chickamauga Tennessee Id love to get your autograph
@@RolandMartinOutdoors sale creek tn p.o. box 13 area code 37373, thank you so much I look forward to watching more of your videos they get me pumped for getting out on the water
Love throwing a prop bait this time of year...Tiny Torpedo, XRAP Prop has replaced the devils horse for me, casts better, and then you can never go wrong with the good old Bagleys bang o lure with rear prop.....Some days you get the best fish when burning the torpedo back to the boat....Little torpedo comes with saltwater grade trebles so you can throw it on heavy line. Roland keeps it simple....Senko, Swim Senko and Spinnerbait...Good to go in Florida, throw in a 1/2 oz trap and I am good.
Omg devil horse that’s was my go to bait back in the day wen I fished the Everglades in south Florida can you still get those ? Thanks roland your a legend Ben watching you since I was ten your still my number one angler thanks for the tips this helps big time🙋🏼♂️
Roland you are one the truly greats that have been doing this a longtime but I have a question and that is how long do you fish with a certain lure before you decide that’s not the one for that day . If you are going on the water for three or four hours or even less that would be like 10 minutes per lure? Also if you start with a soft plastic and no luck do you progress to a different soft plastic presentation or is the change drastic such as a jerk bait? Thanks for helping all of us become better anglers.
A have a couple different rods rigged and ready and when you see a spot that seems to have everything you are looking for, switch around for a few casts
Thanks Roland love the tips ( gotta message with ya ) don't see you fishing the the helicopter lure no more !! Smh I still have one never caught a thing !!
I've found the senko with only the weight of the hook, is best overall in Florida. I've been fishing my home state of Florida for nearly 60 years. The trick is using the proper color, mostly green pumpkin. All other colors are useless. I use buzzbaits mostly in early morning. But like any bait color depends on water clarity. I have caught far more bottom bass with a senko than fishing a pig on jig.
Do you ever use trailers for your spinners, chatter baits or buzzbaits? Like putting a swim bait on the spinners and chatter baits or a grub on the buzzbait?
I remember watching this legend when I was a toddler. I'm thinking of the 20k subs, 90% are over 30. the younger folks dont know what legend status is. haha.
Can you use a 6 foot Rod with a Baitcasting Reel? I have a couple but I’ve never tried them with a Baitcasting Reel and not sure if it would cast very well and be effective.
More information in this 14 min vid than 30 other channels combined.....good stuff RM
This is a Must Watch! Pay Attention! You're a true Legend Mr.Martin, can't thank you enough 👊😎👍

I always carry 2,3 or even 4 rods when walking around my local pond, and sometimes i'm surprised what they actually bite at certain times
It's good to take more than one rod and reel
Thanks Roland!
this was Awsome strait fire bass fishing wisdom
Love this guy.
Would you add a scent attractant? Bill Dance talked about getting your human scent off the lure. In so many casts add a bit more.?
I use bait scent for pressured fish which is like all lol
Great advice!
Thanks Roland love the tips ( gotta message with ya ) don't see you fishing the the helicopter lure no more !! Smh I still have one never caught a thing !!
You don't think he ever did do ya? That thing was garbage. On the other hand, I've caught lots of fish on the Banjo.
Thanks Roland! You da man!

That's a Favorite Rod, Flares flipping and frogging series
Can you use a 6 foot Rod with a Baitcasting Reel? I have a couple but I’ve never tried them with a Baitcasting Reel and not sure if it would cast very well and be effective.
Do you ever fish a floating plastic worm , I find it’s a Hail Mary weapon when bass are finicky and fishing pressure is big time
Yes
Do you a swivels to put your lures on and off? Do you lose any lures? D o you ever use live bait?
I don't use swivels but sometimes a heavy snap. I fish with everything
Roland! The book is still on Amazon!
