    Superb tutorial - and I'm now up and running with my camera streaming to NINA!
    One minor change now needed:
    When you're generating the encryption keys, there's been a slight change in the windows command prompt in windows 11.
    Instead of "ssh-keygen" you now have to enter
    ssh-keygen -t rsa
    otherwise you get the wrong kind of encryption key.
    I miss Chad, and I hope he's alright 😕

    Just tried this on my security camera(s) and it worked. Wow, I never knew about that feature so thanks for that. I'm guessing there would be plenty of webcams out there that don't require all the mucking about to make RTSP work - you'd just have to make sure it had the feature from the start.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  Год назад +1

      Yeah, there are others out there that support native features right out of the box, but I found that the Wyze cameras have such a good low light level imaging capabilities, that I prefer to stick with them. But you’re right, it is a lot of work that seems unnecessary for something they could’ve built in. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that WYZE wants to sell their service of retaining longer-term bigger video files for you and don’t want people using RTSP to stream and save videos off to local disk storage. But that’s just my guess. :)

Will it also function as a wired ethernet connection? Other may also offer answers if they are using this option. Thanks

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  Год назад

      I think at one point I recommended two different versions, at least in the description of the video. One of them provides an ethernet connection, but has a second cable that provides power. The other one provides ethernet connectivity and power via POE. It actually works really well after connecting it and modifying that one entry in the config file. Truly simple.

    I was pretty excited watching the initial part of the video where you mentioned features and rewards. I would LOVE to be able to see my scope in the driveway! I'm in a low crime neighborhood, but the scope is not behind a fence! It can be seen from the street. So yeah, security cam needed. And see the clouds? Cool! Sometimes I can see them on NINA, but the resolution is poor there. And how about being able to watch the meridian flip? Very great feature and I always worry about a cable snag despite precautions.
    And the camera is affordable! Wow.
    But then the video continued in a different language, American IT. For those of us who lack even the most basic programming knowledge, much less skills, this looks like daunting error messages waiting to happen. I couldn't keep up with and didn't know any of those acronyms. I can try to follow step by step, seems possible, as long as nothing goes wrong, because if it did I wouldn't have a clue.
    Astrophotography is certainly glitch plagued as it is, I have many sessions end tragically with a failed cable or some unknown driver issue, a million different things. And that's before the clouds arrive. Hey, a camera would be great to see those clouds! Ha.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  Год назад +1

      Honestly, the camera without any additional modification is well worth it. You can still use the app on a mobile device to monitor your telescope no problem. Based on the timestamp, I assume you’re talking about SSH access. Using ssh-keygen and moving the ssh public key to the Wyze camera is only required for any machine that would like to access the Wyze camera via SSH for configuration. As far as receiving RTSP streams, no ssh keys are needed on any machine. The SSH stuff is only for configuration. As a matter of fact, you don’t even have to do this SSH step if you don’t want to. You could just use the web interface or pull the SD card out of the camera and put it into your computer to make edits.

      @@PatriotAstro Thanks Chad. Would I get the livestream in NINA without the SSH step?

    • @PatriotAstro

      @@hael8680 yes. You only need SSH if you would like to reconfigure the cameras configuration without using the web interface.

      18:39 You typed in "astro" and "astro" in those 2 NINA fields. Is this related to SSH access file you modified? If I don't do the SSH file step, how do I connect to NINA?

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  Год назад

      @@hael8680 in the wz_mini.conf file, in the RTSP section, you enter a name and password for these connections. This is the name and password NINA uses (or any other RTSP client). So whatever you define in the RTSP section of that configuration file.

    Hello Chad. I do not find the RTSP client on my plugins page. I use the nightly version 3.0, would it be the cause ? Thanks

    Sept. 2024 - If you have any WYZE cams and use this hack for RTSP use, don't try accessing the cameras via the WYZE app. They are now forcing a firmware update that kills this feature.

    NINA's RTSP plugin is a bit of a joke. It constantly either lags behind, freezes, or drops. RTSP with wyze and nina is not new. Been doing this for ages.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  Год назад

      This is exactly why I mentioned it "is back". :) This is not using the RTSP implementation in the Wyze Firmware but another method instead. I am seeing really good results so far. You'd have to watch but the original video I did on this topic is how we got the RTSP Plugin way back when. :)

      I guess I'm not really following the point of using this wz hacks thing. All you had to do was downgrade the firmware and you could enable RTSP in wyze app. Everything else was just loading the RTSP link into Nina.

      @@WhooptieDo the Wyze firmware that added RTSP is no longer supported, and they are no longer developing that feature. This application allows me to uninvasively maintain a much newer firmware that is supported by Wyze, and still get the RTSP feature, along with a whole bunch of other stuff that I may potentially want. (In more camera models) It definitely doesn’t have to be for everyone, I just prefer to run newer firmware when possible.

      @@PatriotAstro I guess potato potahtoe, everything works like normal for me utilizing the older firmware. Not that I actually use it, but it is still supported in the wyze app. The only issue was ever finding a host for the older firmware. Wyze no longer hosted it on their site.

    It appears all legacy firmware versions have been removed. You should probably take this video off youtube now?????
