My issue is bitrate. 1080p would be awesome if the bitrate is increased. Does the v4 seem to have a higher bitrate? If not, then increasing the resolution doesn't help a whole lot.
Just found your channel looking at the fyrtur blinds. Great video. This video is timely for me as well. I've got the V2 cams that use rtsp, but bought OG cams without realizing they dropped rtsp. Haven't tried the docker bridge you mentioned below yet. If I can get my OGs working in HA I may buy some V4s. Great price great image. Enjoying your content. I'm sub'd now!
Thanks for the great video. I have 3 Dropcams that today was the last day they were supported. Google did send me two Nestcams but I don't see them as much as they are more bulky, only indoor, and I still have to buy one more, which is more expensive. Wyze seems to be iterating more quickly with higher resolution and low light improvements. I do like the Nest quick scroll through footage and I think on my Wyze v3, it's still not as quick and easy to find footage.
I really appreciated how you covered the idiosyncrasies between the v2, v3, and v4 --- you were the only reviewer who considered this to really be the successor to the v3, and not the v3 pro... It truly is! The side-by-side video streams were exactly what I was looking for. You got a new subscriber! Thanks.
It was this one: ruclips.net/video/ODZnJag8BNs/видео.html A bit dated but the info should all be the same. Basically you need something to provided PoE (a PoE switch or a power injector) and something to convert the PoE to micro USB (PoE Splitter, like this amzn.to/40VuMQT). Then you just run ethernet between your power supply and your camera. The advantage is that PoE can travel longer distances (300ish feet) without a significant voltage drop.
Yes, you can view all Wyze cameras and control other Wyze devices from one app. They even updated the app to make it a lot better. The v4 cameras do have some extra features (like the new timeline) that doesn't appear when you select the v3 cameras. But they all work together.
Can you shut off the spotlight feature through the app to where it never comes on? Also does it give you the option to shut off all notifications? I have othersecurity cams I get notifications with. I don't need more as this one is just for fun if I decide to get it.
Have you ever tested a small battery paired with a small solar panel so you can take advantage of the 24-7 video recording in remote place with no power just using a v3 or v3 pro?
Would have been nice to see some 'intruder movements' recorded on the camera. From what I have seen a fast moving intruder is near impossible to see clearly due to the low bit rate of the recorded video. It's one thing to claim a big resolution, but it's the amount of info in the stream thats reveals all the details. When we have had intruders they move fast because they know that's a great way not to be seen clearly
They've effectively killed that on future cameras. However if you look into the wyze docker bridge you can get local streaming back. I did a video on it a while back.
@@ThisSmartHouse Hopefully it’s using the same protocols as previous cameras unlike the OG camera that, AFAIK, is still unsupported by Docker Wyze Bridge.
can you turn the light feature ON/OFF or is it automatically going to turn on everytime it detects movement you made a comment that made me wonder this thanks
I've had my v3 for a little over 4 years now and I have been very happy with them. I like the fact that they can record what's going on outside for up to 5 minutes. I was just wondering if the v4 has the same record time.
They changed things a bit on the v4s. On the free plan you just get a still image every 5 minutes. However, if you install an SD card, you can still set the camera up for 24/7 recording. So that means you will see the still image in the timeline and then you can swap over to the SD card view and watch the video.
The Battery Cam Pro could not format the larger size memory cards. Users were directed to use a computer to format these cards (128 or 256gb). With 512gb being mentioned as a supported size, I wonder if the V4 camera can format those larger Micro-SD memory cards??
Excellent video. Im looking for a higher resolution of the cam pan v3 for my beehive exteriors. Cam pan v3 isn’t cutting it. You didn’t mention if the camera was remote controlled like cam pan 3, but based upon your description of features, I am going to infer they are stationary. I subscribed to your channel. Does Wyze V4 work with Nest Hub Max 10"? I have an issue with one out of 8 Wyze V3 cameras not playing and cannot display the picture. Just a white "Wyze-Cam" display on a black background. All other 7 Wyze V3 Cameras work just fine on Nest Hub.

I have the v3. I want to buy an updated camera. I’m not sure if I should go with the v3 pro or the v4. I did notice they took off person detection in the v4 model. Which do you recommend?
What are the main features you are looking for? Are you using the Cam Plus subscription? If you are looking for person detection without a subscirption, then the v3 Pro is the better choice.

I appreciate the review. It is unfortunate that the Wyze folks are playing it fast and loose with their resolution claims. I hope they aren't playing it fast and loose with their security claims too. I don't see any reason for me to upgrade my V3 pros to V4s. I don't use the spotlight or audio features. All my v3 pros are mounted near an external light source too, so improved night vision doesn't affect me either. Big misses in my book are the long overdue USB-C conversion, the lack of 4K and the lack of 5GHz support with a fallback to 2.4GHz.

Thank you for keeping Micro-USB. Micro-USB is perfect if you are upgrading Wyze cameras. Just replace the camera, use the same power cable and AC adapter. USB-C is only advantageous over Micro-USB if a person is plugging and unplugging the device frequently. But with these Wyze cameras a person will only be plugging it in once then forgetting about it.
I've gotten everywhere cameras made as gifts. The only problem I've had with them is everyone looses connection. Something I've had with no other camera. So I'll pass
Do you have multiple access points in your home? I've had a ton of issues with my unifi system and any Wyze Cam that isn't right next to an AP. I found locking the cameras to an access point helped.
Both V3 pro and V4 are no longer "compatible" with the "free" Cam Plus Lite subscription. Without a paid subscription, these cameras cannot record any video clips upon detecting an event. 24-video recording is the only viable option without any subscription.
ever since they killed rtsp i refuse to buy any more cloud connected cameras. i realise privacy is more important, home assistant with rtsp camera and motioneye is the best
@@shawnd567the cameras die really, really fast. Most of my v3 start making a horrid buzzing whine which is them restarting many times a second and frequently when they fail like this they overheat. A couple I've caught hot enough I was worried for house if hadn't been caught and if I wasn't around (like at vacation house) would think a likely fire. The wyze lights also fail horribly and I've had those melt and turn black the housing just below light. I've had dozens of wyze cams and several dozen lights. I have 2 lights that survived more than 1 yr all including those have been replaced. I have other smart light brands that are still working fine and most have been running fine for many years. The cameras I have only 3 that have survived again out of dozens,.. I don't even want to figure out how many at this point probably 50 between v2, v3 and two of the 2nd Gen rotating tilting ones that died after about 3mo of use.
Will never buy another Wyze camera.. I've had many issues with their products over the years.. Too many options out here to put up with their constant issues.
The camera socks... it doesn't work unless you subscribe.... pre-recorded videos are impossible to get to and it will not let you pinch the video to zoom unless you transfer to your phone. I do not recommend this camera unless you pay monthly or year. The black and white will not work unless you subscribe.... all this ppl including this guy is getting paid to lie. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
This camera is total rubbish. Wyze need to review the software for this v4 .The SD card playback crashes after 10gb storage. No person detection. Go with the cam v3 pro or lorex or blink with free cloud storage.
I don't have any issue with the 64 gig card in my 2x v4 cameras. You might want to try factory resetting them or contacting why support maybe you've got a bum one. As far as the person detection that is a disappointing loss from the V3 Pro. If you're looking for a local solution that has onboard person detection check out the reolink cameras.
I only use the free features and they work great for me. I have moved away from using Wyze cameras for my "critical" locations like outdoors. But I still use them inside and in areas where I really just want 24/7 recording.
I can see it both ways. I mean the camera really doesn't NEED USB C. But I am slowly throwing out the thousand MicroUSB cables. It is definitely a "budget" v3 pro. Looking at the specs I was wonder why it has less memory than the v3 pro, but the lack of person dection is why.
@@ThisSmartHouse It may not need an updated port but its certainly necessary , now the fact they use the name gimmick between " 2k" and "2.5k" is just a money grab tbh The terminology " 2k" is referring to to a resolution of 2560x1440p... and is called " 2k" they are just using a word game to call it a "2.5k" which is SUPER SHADY because the resolution is 2560x1440... SAME RESOLUTION AS, you guessed it... the v3 pro Call it false advertising calling the SAME 2560x1440 resolution in one model " 2k" and the other one "2.5k" Misleading much Is like they selling the Wyze v5 with 3.8k resolution and later a " Wyze v5 PRO" 4k for more money 4k = 3840x2160 money grab same thing
I do not recommend Wyze cameras, do not be fooled, when you buy this camera you have to pay a monthly fee, because if you do not pay monthly, it will only take photos. especially the Wyze V4.
@@JasonLee-t3b I'm not lying, at least in my case there are two cameras that I can't see the videos, and I get an ad that says. "To unlock event videos Get Cam Plus" and in this case it will be of no use to have an SD card, because you will not be able to see the videos, unless you take it out of the camera and insert it into your PC. And even if you have a plan to only give 6 seconds, and you know that 6 seconds of video is nothing. Until now the ReoLink cameras are the best.
I have the same issues……won’t buy another at this time. Of course there will be hiccups and upgrades will be added. WAIT several months if you really want one…others are better for a tad bit $
I think unless you REALLY need the extra resolution, sticking with your v3s (or other cameras) is a good idea. But if you need to deploy a bunch of easy cameras for a new setup, then the v4 seems like a good choice. But other brands are really starting to get closer to Wyze's "budget" status.
im currently debating between the v3 pro or the v4 the difference is 4 dollars US but I feel like for 5 dollars he v4 will have longer support and wifi 6 is damn nice. i dont care about the sd card slot size as Im using them for timelapse plant cameras
I was going to say that, the newer device would have a longer time before it is end of lifed. Unless you are really wanting to do the RTSP firmware flash, then I would go with the v4. I know the faster load times are worth it for me.

I want to upgrade from my V2 model to this model.
You're absolutely right I just made that mistake. That's what happens when you hurry through a video. 😂
Thanks
Welcome!
Agreed. Plus Micro USB connectors are CHEAPER. Let's them keep the price down.
I've had Wyze for four years and have never had connection problems. I have three Wyze Can OGs 80 feet away and it works without problems
They tend to freeze and drop out "loosing connection" when you have a bad SD card. Otherwise, surprisingly reliable
This new one has wifi 6 they fixed it I think. The old one had some old wifi from back in the day wifi4 at 2.5ghz
Where is the video that you mentioned you had used POE for your wyze cam? Could not find it
HomeKit ?
Nope. But you can set up the Wyze docker bridge and add them over RTSP.
So you don't have the ability to disable the spot light? That certainly should be an option!
You can completely disable the spotlight if you want. I just think it's kind of silly if you want to use it as an indoor camera.
Im ngl the v3 wasnt something anyone should but if they had a v2 the v4 tbh is something worth buying
You said micro-usb..
and for that reason.. I'm out 😂
Good video!
I like it I can just switch out my v3 with the v4.
Yep. That is the only reason I can think they kept micro USB.
Both V3 pro and V4 are no longer "compatible" with the "free" Cam Plus Lite subscription. Without a paid subscription, these cameras cannot record any video clips upon detecting an event. 24-video recording is the only viable option without any subscription.
Yep. That’s why I recommended to always use the SD card. But if you are recording with the SD card, then it will record events but just locally.
They're both just 2k. Must just decided since its 2560 that they could use 2.5K and technically wouldn't be lying.
ever since they killed rtsp i refuse to buy any more cloud connected cameras. i realise privacy is more important, home assistant with rtsp camera and motioneye is the best
Fair assessment. I really like the ability to run an RTSP camera through something like Frigate.
BTW The monthly membership has different prices 60 par year per camera F-BS
solar panel doesn’t support V4 … sad
V4 isn't battery powered. You need to check out the Outdoor v2 or Outdoor Pro.
The monthly fees to open up the other options will kill your bank account!!
Yep, that is why I called them out. I understand not everyone wants to run their own NVR, but it saves you so much money in the long run.
I just use sd cards but unlimited cam plus for $100 bucks a year hardly breaks the bank.
I would NOT get this V4 because it does not have RTSP.
Micro-USB in 2024 is unacceptable..
Ngl tbh for a security camera at that price point thats fine imo
I just got it and you plug it once and never touch the wire again so it's a moot point
Who cares. You plug it in once and leave it for years.
I don't like that you are using the same orange in your branding as Rob, I thought this was one of his videos when I clicked on it at first.
Rob doesn’t have a patent on orange. 🤣 We both just like the same colors.
It’s useless without a monthly fee.
I only use the free features and they work great for me. I have moved away from using Wyze cameras for my "critical" locations like outdoors. But I still use them inside and in areas where I really just want 24/7 recording.
Old micro usb port, same video resolution as V3 pro previous model, this is just a cash grab refresh product tbh
@@ThisSmartHouse It may not need an updated port but its certainly necessary , now the fact they use the name gimmick between " 2k" and "2.5k" is just a money grab tbh
The terminology " 2k" is referring to to a resolution of 2560x1440p... and is called " 2k"
they are just using a word game to call it a "2.5k" which is SUPER SHADY because the resolution is 2560x1440... SAME RESOLUTION AS, you guessed it... the v3 pro
Call it false advertising calling the SAME 2560x1440 resolution in one model " 2k" and the other one "2.5k"
Misleading much
Is like they selling the Wyze v5 with 3.8k resolution
and later a " Wyze v5 PRO" 4k for more money
4k = 3840x2160
money grab
same thing
I do not recommend Wyze cameras, do not be fooled, when you buy this camera you have to pay a monthly fee, because if you do not pay monthly, it will only take photos. especially the Wyze V4.
Sd card buddy. Quit spreading false info mine work great
@@JasonLee-t3b I'm not lying, at least in my case there are two cameras that I can't see the videos, and I get an ad that says.
