Tony, your always stunning underwater video is matched up with your smooth commentary with well thought out dialog is unmatched in your field, it is no wonder you are "The Best". Congrats my friend.
Vids and commentary are superb, as always. I feel your baby cobe is a variety of remora, Ultra-slender body and round tail. Cobes are huskier, and 😂a flat caudal tail, etc. in fact the only thing going for the Cobia look alike is the paint job. Once again, look at the tail…
The strip goes under the fin so it is a Remora. The Cobia strip goes above the fin. Remora has a black patch on its solid tail. Cobia has a forked tail. He is trying to mislead people in this video. Do your research because he is wrong.
Yeah, the fact that he thinks that was a remora shows you he knows very little about fishing. So obviously a large remote. Just by the tail you can tell. The pectoral fins angle up over the back of the fish, flat head. Keep in mind this guy had to edit this video and look at that fish 100 times and he still thought it was a Cobia. . . Not a serious fisherman.
Guys . Ok . I've never weighed in comments on a fishing youtube channel. I gotta call this out. There are remarkable differences between Cobia and Remora . Sure lots of fish change through sub-juvenile, juvenile and adult form . The fish in this video is " Echeneis naucrates" . The fish has a paddle tail , the dorsal and anal fins are different, the lower jaw ....it's a Remora . Look at the eye . I've got my iconic Grants Guide to Fishes right here . I've stood on a fishing boat for many years .. caught loads of both . I've seen them and caught them >
REMORA GUARANTEED. 1. Cobia pectoral fins point out and down. 2. Remora pectoral are out and up. They are one of the only fish with upward pointing pectorals and have evolved them in this manner to stabilize and push against their host when they attach to sharks and rays. 3. Cobia tails are forked 4. Remora tails are rounded 5. Both fish are not in same classification and are not related. 6. Both fish share similar coloration. 7. Remoras do not school. 8. Cobias school together Nice video though but no baby cobia.😢
Mullet in Black sea is named "Chefal" (pronounced Kefal) is a little darker on the back and actually comes in 3 different sizes reching 1 meter the larger specie , we catch them with sand worms , great pan fish :P romnian cuisine has a few recipes thats worth tasting
Mate here in a Australia 🇦🇺 we catch mullet on a float and bread and in my youth we also use to jag them when they swam in schools in a narrow channel but we can’t do that anymore. Cheers 🍻for that thought I’d share that with you 🤠🎣
@@FishGum Cobia have a forked tail and their pectoral fins point down not up. That particular remora is actually relatively rare. They are called Slender Suckerfish. Phtheirichthys lineatus.
@@FishGum- obviously you made a mistake, I've been fishing for 35 years son and never heard or seen someone like you who's clueless about a species of fish, I'll bet you 10,000 dollars here and now if you show your stupid pictures to marine biologists to verify your mistake, if I'm wrong your make money but if your wrong I don't won't your chump change just admit your mistake in your next video if you have the balls !!!!
Agree… great video and thanks for sharing but 110% a remora. It has a round tail fin, has no dorsal fin (they’re sometimes confused with sharks because of this and with their sharp pectoral fins), and you can even see its sucker on top at one point when it comes head and tries to grab the bait.
Mr. Faggioni, wouldn't it be better to put the camera on top, connecting your main line with your leader line, facing down in order to prevent losing your camera to a possible line cut by a blue crab or what not...? Just a thought.
I used to film that way but the whole thing helicopters when you cast it. With all the weight at the bottom and my main line is 60lb leader I haven’t lost one yet being cut off. However, I’ve lost 6 underwater cameras other ways…
@@FishGumyes they are. Most are made with a small metal bait cage, and using 80-130lb mono making little legs coming off of the sides and top with a loop on the end. They crawl on top to get to the bait, then when you reel it in their legs get caught in the snares
I think maybe a natural-colored bait float and a longer distance between the hook and the hardware. Too many fish looking at it like they know its a trap and they aren't that desperate yet.
My cousin pointed out to me that you can always tell when you're hooked up on a Lady Fish...... and that's because you can hear the nagging on the end of the line😂😂😂😂
We started surf fishing with 6 n a half and 7 foot inshore rods and caught some pompano whiting and even a few reds. 2 oz pyramid sinkers is about max for casting unless you have a heavy rod then a 3oz. You do have to lob when you cast and will be limited on casting distance but some whiting and reds are only 20 -30 feet off the beach just behind the wash. I tie our pomp rigs and use exclusively owner mutu circle hooks they are the only ones I've found are really sharp out of the pack. Look on RUclips if you want to learn to tie pompano rigs. Size 2 is a good all around hook. Pieces of fresh dead or frozen shrimp about a half or 3/4 inch with a small piece of fish gum or fish bites on the hook also. Just remember to keep the drag very loose when putting the rod in a sand spike so fish can take line and not pull over your spike and drag your rods into the sand. I use 20 lb power pro main line and usually 15 or 20 lb florocarbin leaders. Now most of our rods are 9 ft penn 6000 fierce combos they run around $120 n I'm sure there are other good combo packages also if you want a longer rod. If you start catching fish it is addicting we started with 2 short inshore rods and now put out a 6 rod spread of 9 and 10 footers. Good luck
@scottweidner1613 THANK YOU Scott, that is exactly what I was looking for. I grew up on Mobile Bay/Fort Morgan Rd but it's been 30 years since I've done any fishing down there (I now live in Nashville and have a family of my own). So much has changed. As a teenager, at my parents beach house on Ft Morgan (7th mile marker, Ponce DeLeon), we used to drive our trucks on the beach, pull out a long gill net and catch everything that swam through. We would make $500 a day selling our catch to locals on the beach, of course we knew everyone down there. My guess is probably can't do that anymore . . . Man, those were the good ole days for sure ! ! !
looks like the float is keeping the fish from taking the hook. is it also supposed to keep the small ones from getting hooked? why not just add cork or styrofoam strike indicators instead?
There’s a lot going on there, floats attract fish and do help keep the bait on the bottom of the sea floor. However, there’s more hesitation of fish taking the bait in most underwater videos because of the oddity of a black and green camera being so close to the hooks. They are spooked a little by it.
@@FishGum I found I could reel very slowly and they wouldn’t let go until they left the water. Then I would step on them and grab a leg and toss into a five gallon bucket. But I’m from Michigan and only did that on vacation.
How are you allowed to fish with 6 poles??? My fishing license only allows for 2 per angler. It's obvious by the one beach cart, one blue chair, and no one in the background at around 0:25 to 0:35. It's obvious you don't have 2 other licensed angles with you to claim 2 poles each. You even say 'you' might be getting a bite on a pole at the opposite end at around 0:20. How can this be legally possible? Thanks for any advice you can give. I have at least 6 I'd like to use at once. I just fear the law! LOL
@FishGum Thank you for clarifying. I've fished all of the Gulf Coast - except for Florida, and all other states have a 2 pole max. Now I want to come out there! Thanks again!
It looks like a juvenile cobia, the tails give them away if you can not see their head. They have almost identical stripes as remoras and are often mis-identified especially without seeing the top of their head.
