"burned my firewood too fast" Crazy! That means the wood was nice and dry. Your firewood is the best I have ever burned in 50 years of burning wood. Thanks for everything!
I had a guy cuss me cause he drove my my place and saw wood here and I didn't have any wood left to sell last week. Told me "how do you sell firewood and not have any to sell". I sold my seasoned stuff already, and I'm not selling green. He then asked what my prices were which is irrelevant since I don't have any to sell him anyway and he told me I'm ripping people off, meanwhile I match the other 4 firewood sellers in our areas pricing, so we don't compete with each other😂😂 I kindly told him Merry Christmas, cut and split your own wood then😂 First time in 3 years of selling I ran into a turd like that😂. His lack of planning isn't my problem 💪 Happy new year Jake
Last year I lost one over full cord stacking fee. His rant at me was… ”I’ll let you get away with it this time, getting wood somewhere else next year. $25, ridiculous. You have to get it out your trailer regardless.” You will never guess whose call went unanswered this year,🤡. 🤣
Similar numbers I've come up with here. I just toss it in the totes from the splitter, no stacking. I have all smaller totes, with removable sides, and having stacked a few to test, I find you can fit 2/3 of a face cord in a tote tossed in loosely. The only manipulating I do is to keep wood from falling out, usually by stacking the corners vertically as the pile rises. Got the idea from Jake for 4 totes....I can put 4 together and park the splitter up tight and toss until all 4 are full...saves a ton of time.
Cheers Jake, I appreciate you clarifying this confusion I had about the totes and quantities of wood you can fit in each size. The fact you work with the tote as you fill it to maximize efficiency of storage and heap it over the top makes a significant difference compared with simply throwing it in loose and level filling. Happy New Year :)
I remember when I was selling flowers and someone complained about my prices when everyone else told me how good they were. I told them that the price of fuel was really cold this winter when I had to heat my greenhouse in February for these plants
I'm intrigued by the short discussion of cycle time and pump stage shifting between the 37D and 22-28. It seems like it would be the opposite of what Adam described because the diesel engine torque would allow the pump to stay in the high volume stage more of the time or longer. I'm not familiar with the specs of the the engines and pumps on these machines. Maybe the 37D has a completely different pump (piston??). Maybe you could do a video exploring this topic further. I would imagine the machines are optimized from the factory, but could it be possible there are adjustments that could be made to make the 37D run more to Adam's liking. Nice video!
Funny story about your unreasonable customer - good to move on and not deal with that ongoing. Enjoyed this video - fun to watch you and Adam calculate the amount you are making, etc.
Happy new year Jake and Adam, you did the right thing both of y’all you can not please everybody specially people that’s miserable trying to pull you into their misery👍🇺🇸
I run into some of tgese pein the lawn care side, luckily I have with the wood delivery. Great video with you and Adam!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Give an inch they will take a mile. Luckily everybody is always happy To see good wood. My one complain came like 8 years ago when I tried to hustle a resale “wet wood” I know they burnt it just fine but it was during a huge snow storm and had to partner with a buddies jacked up squarebody to get a couple loads. I deal with lots of ridiculous crap tho, as soon as somebody irks me that’s it for them. I charge a lot more than most people locally that are desperate to make $ cuz I’m opening a yard, and people hit me up all the time off different ads thinking their getting a deal and what pisses me off is the “oh let me call you back”, and when people ask for wood and just blow you off. On another note, what did you build your burn barrel out of?
Adam if you see this. One of the possible reasons why this splitter stayed on the first stage of hydraulics and was then faster is the wood split here was frozen and splits easier. In my experience.
@ I wondered about the pump size. So you haven’t noticed a difference between frozen and not? I run Eastonmade as well and no matter what machine or even by hand frozen goes faster than thawed for me. That’s why I suggested it. Great equipment makes things easier no matter the wood for sure!
An old boss of mine had a method of handling customers that I always thought was pretty good. He said if the customer was unhappy ask them what you could do to make things right in their eyes. If they gave you a specific thing that would make them happy just do it and we would foot the cost. If they continued to complain rather than tell you what would make them happy ask them to leave and take their business elsewhere.
hi interesting stories .that's why i don't sell firewood any more . most new customers was a rejected bu another supplier , just ask a new buyer if they burn much wood , if they say yes ,that may be a red flag , .Best to all and have a Happy New Year ,Thank You ,John
First of all, Happy New Year to you and your family from the Brokaw family. Came to your channel after Adam suggested it. Nice job. I was wondering if you have any stickers for sale (didn't see any on your merch store. I have recently retired and have gotten back into my workshop and am adorning my door and tools from channels that I enjoy watching - just asking. Stay safe.
After watching this one, I noticed there is several pieces of wood getting out of your totes while filling them. You might consider putting a solid sheet of plywood or similar for the tote to sit against so that can't happen. Save the back while you're still young before it becomes an issue,
I had a automotive repair shop for over 25 years. If customer would try and drive my repair estimate down I would and $25 more to the estimate, some customers would keep talking until the cost would go over $100 .
You should have said, "I'll give you 10 bucks a piece for each stick of pine and thats all you'll get". Just listening to those stories really pissed me off! I can't believe some people, how do they get this way?? And I don't do fire wood at all!!!
In 20 years of doing firewood I fired 1 customer. It started 1 year after I delivered 20 face cords or 6.6 full cords after he stacked it he called and said I was 15 pieces short I said sorry I will bring it right up after work the next day all was ok this year. next year he just needed 3 face cords or 1 full cord 3 day later he called and said I was a half a face cord short now I stacked all this wood in my dump trailer 7 feet wide 2 feet tall on the metel sides so I gave him 7 rows and a little high plus I had a half a log on the processor so I let that free fall into the dump. I did argue with him this time but ended up taking him the half a cord and told him that would never happen again and he said he appreciate that he did not know what I meant by that statement. The next year he called and wanted 20 face cords he must have been on speaker phone I said do you remember I said that would never happen again yes I do I said you now have to find someone else to buy your wood from pay 10 more bucks per cord and a delivery fee the wife started in the back round you see I told you this would happen I told you and he hung up the phone. He was just trying to get free stuff I put the word out to the other firewood producers told them what was happening with him so they would know. Sold the firewood business in may of 2024 and then got a excavator to work on my property I am loving retirement stay safe you guys I got out with all my fingers and never getting hurt but know some not so lucky don't be unlucky guys
He wanted to invest??? Then complains, he was 'sweet-talking" you bro. Many customers have no idea what work goes into getting and processing firewood. When I post my ads, I break down by the cord, 1/2 cord, truck load, and bags. Then I tell the delivery price according to the distance etc. When they call or message, I still have to explain it repeatedly. I should be a doctor, having so much patience... lol
I'm 60 years old, me, my son, my nephew and two Mexicans cut and split @ 160 cord a year. I have a 1 ton dump that I deliver with. I have on my ad, no stacking. This man called and wanted a cord of wood, but he wanted it stacked in his basement. He said since he was paying for the wood I should stack it. I asked him when he went to Publix or Kroger and bought steaks, did the butcher come cook them. So he got pissed. The next day he called back and ordered the cord, because everyone else he called wanted $400 for the wood and $500 to carry to basement and stack.
I just convert it all to cubic inches and do that math. Saves the triple 12 division (which I didn't know) As long as you know what you've got & can give customers what they ask for, it doesn't really matter how you get there. Keep up the great content and info!!
We sell just from the wood stand I don’t advertise large quantities or deliver for just that reason. I have a full time job and my 13 year old son manages and keeps the wood stand loaded. I get double the money from the wood stand that I would from larger quantities. Plus it moves a little slower so I don’t have to constantly cut split and stack wood plus keep massive amounts on hand. From time to time people will see me outside and request a truckload or they see my totes and stop and ask for a tote full and I’ll sell it no problem. Personally I don’t want to deal with people, at this point it’s not worth it. When my son gets older if he wants to turn it into a bigger business he most certainly can. We keep about 12-15 cord on hand of seasoned wood for the wood stand and personal use. I get a log truck or 2 in February and try to cut and stack it by April and that seems to be workin out well.
Jake don't worry about him, his just upset that you didn't want to get involved with him in business. In all fairness who does he think he is.. Just to bad for him, don't worry he will try to come back and it's up to you if you let him..
You should not blacklist anybody. As a business man. I’ve noticed how losers do this. If business continues you will notice that some times business does not work out. They or you might not be a good fit now. We have no clue what the future may hold. People that don’t run a business get hired and come up with all this nonsense and us that run a business go along to make a extra profit or afraid of missing out on compensation. The longevity is the compensation. Let these Corporations hire people who never worked and come up with all these extra charges, fees, criteria, standards. Remember. These people do none of the work. They think they a boss cause they pick up the phone and spoke to someone. Everybody is important to a business from the $1 spender to the 1 billion dollar spender.
I can tell you from my experience that when someone wants invest into your business as a “partner” that they want to become the owner of your business by investing more money into your business than they think that you could on your own thinking that you were a nobody without any business experience or any finances to run your business in the first place and would jump at the free money. He thought he was punching down with zero knowledge of all that you have already invested into it on your own and all of your equipment. He thought you were beneath him.
Wise and accurate statement to which I agree. When we had the conversation, I asked him one question, “Tell me what you know about firewood and how do you see yourself adding to my operation?”
You will always have a Karen or Ken that you have to deal with and I think you did exactly what needed to be done. I will bet you a cup of coffee that they call you back eventually for wood.
Unfortunately, sometimes you have to fire customers. It’s an odd way to think, but if you know nothing you do is going to make the customer satisfied, you might as well quit while you’re ahead. We are fellow tree guys who are starting out on this RUclips stuff. What’s your advice on getting good content? Just record everything everyday?😂
Always be filming, have multiple cameras/perspectives. Tree work is boring to watch on a screen, your editing can make it more enjoyable to watch. Be personable and be yourself, include your mistakes, don’t go off a script. Thanks for watching and good luck!
If firewood is burning fast it means it is dry. I’ve never heard of firewood being too dry. Sounds like this guy was going to have a problem no matter what. Look at it this way goodbye and good riddance
Wow that's crazy how people are not happy! I had a customer complain that the seasoned wood 🪵 I dropped off after we had snow and freezing is wet and they want something better I just told them that if you let it dry out for a while it would be great, or I can come pick it up and ill give you some money back they didn't go for either of them and just stopped bugging me about it. They look for something free type of people. Happy New Year to both of you guys!
firewood isnt easy to do or everyone would be doing it. I even suggested to people to buy in late summer so that they have it for whenever they need it. The reply I got was I don't need it in summer I need it in winter. Yeah people really don't understand where I was coming from.
Adam nailed it with his comment "Some people don't want you to make it right, they just want to be mad."
He did
"burned my firewood too fast" Crazy! That means the wood was nice and dry. Your firewood is the best I have ever burned in 50 years of burning wood. Thanks for everything!

Happy new year Jake
Hey Jack, Hopefully you got his number so you can add it to the ignore list for the future.
lol some people can’t be helped! Happy new year, hope you guys are doing well! I’m jealous of your boiler

Your right you can’t make everyone happy but that 22/28 working really makes me smile happy new year guys

Nice seeing you guys working together!
I agree with Adam about being Salty and I'm glad you got some firewood therapy! 😂 Adam is a funny guy!
This customer that you’re describing totally reminds me of Adam.
I didn’t get fired… I got Adam’d
Great job with Adam……you guys were too funny doing the calculations. I thought I was back in school! 😂 Happy New Year 🎈
Happy new year Jake and Adam, you did the right thing both of y’all you can not please everybody specially people that’s miserable trying to pull you into their misery👍🇺🇸
Happy new year Larry and Robin!
I understand about customers. that you can't please .I have let a handful of customers go.Keep up the good work
I run into some of tgese pein the lawn care side, luckily I have with the wood delivery. Great video with you and Adam!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day

Maybe a marginal difference frozen vs. thawed but this was all RTB ash, it’s going to pop and split perfect no matter what!

Some people are in the business of manufacturing, that would be manufacturing unhappyness.😂 Great video
Since I am my only firewood customer, I rarely ever get complaints. :)
You must be doing something right!

Ya deal with the public and you will meet them all. Glad you Guys were doing the math. It made my head hurt. 😁

Don't Lie, You wanted Adam for backup! lol 🤣🤣
lol never hurts!
Very informative video, thank you. I just started using ibc totes.
Glad you found it helpful, totes are the way to go in my opinion if you have access to them
Jake, I’ll bet you a piece of Dude Ranch DIY merch that he will be calling you again for firewood!
I never ever take a x back period
They will only get braver
I bet he will which is why I made note of him in my contacts!
I had a automotive repair shop for over 25 years. If customer would try and drive my repair estimate down I would and $25 more to the estimate, some customers would keep talking until the cost would go over $100 .
Yep the pain in the ass customers/jobs get higher prices until they get nothing at all!
If he was that bad as a customer, imagine how he would be as a partner!
Exactly!

Always like Adam sightings

Do you buy your totes .if so what is the cost
How do you like that Fiskars hookaroon?
It’s my favorite one out of the 4 that I have
I bet he will start his own firewood business and show you... Not.
What pickaron are you using?

Some people just need to learn how to pound salt!
Title: "When Nerds do firewood" 😂😂😂😂
lol 😂
Just call your best customer and tell them how much wood you have and it’s going fast if they want any
I sell out year after year regardless!
You will always have a Karen or Ken that you have to deal with and I think you did exactly what needed to be done. I will bet you a cup of coffee that they call you back eventually for wood.
