    Wow! This video solves the confusion I had for a long time! What do you do to fix the hollow gap at your palm when you have the eastern 1 hand backhand? I find the hollow gap you talked about at the beginning of the video very annoying. It doesn’t feel strong/supportive when I hit it, so I move to more of a continental backhand to full the full support from the palm. But continental grip is so hard to put top spin on which resulting ball go out of bond all the time. Now I’m sticking to the eastern grip but the hollow gap still bothers me when I hit the ball.

    One detail I picked up on the Top Tennis Training channel is to keep the racquet head quite vertical (close to 12 o'clock) on the takeback. This lengthens the racquet head path to the ball strike and generates more power with no increase in effort. Both Wawrinka and Federer do this, with the former using the maximum vertical position.
    Even though the racquet head path is lengthened, this technique doesn't seem to require more time to complete the stroke.

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  5 лет назад +4

      George, the racket head being vertical prior to the racquet drop (pre acceleration phase) is only cosmetic and it doesn’t contribute to more power on the stroke. It does however help the player generate a better rhythm on the stroke. Everyone has a different rhythm and what works for Federer, Wawrinka and Thiem might not necessarily work for other players.

    • @Jakejhh

      Intuitive Tennis not sure about power but having the racquet more vertical helps racquet face to square up easier at the contact...

    • @AndreanoCelentano
      @AndreanoCelentano 3 года назад +3

      Please allow me to humbly disagree. The wrist is the weakest muscle in the whole kinetic chain and will get injured if used this way. The spin is imparted by rotation of the arm along the long axis from the shoulder, but not by the shoulder itself, more by the rotation of the body, by moving torso via core muscles, hips, and legs. Please stay safe and have fun.

    Enjoyed your video on forehand stroke production. I've been looking into the potential of using high speed cameras ( 1000-15,000 fps) to pinpoint problem areas within tennis strokes. Slower speed cameras really don't catch the moment of wrist release etc. so the viewer is never able to accurately view "actual" points of contact with the ball or minor flaws within the strokes. By capturing a truly high speed rendition of strokes...the coach can then focus on the exact part or parts of a stroke that need improvement.
    Would such a service be welcomed by "coaches", where my company would show up and film all their students at a tennis camp or local setting. (not coach the students, just supply the footage to the coach). Maybe even provide sensor driven data back to the coach on the aerobic condition of their players, reaction speed, leg drive speed in all directions etc.
    What do you think?

    I don't think Fed doing backward transfer and hitting his OHBH don't need to be super flexible in my opinion :) Also the Thiem/Warinka style Fed do that a lot too so I don't think this style has anything to do with how OHBH works most likely more of a contact point, intention and hitting direction issue.

    Another fantastic video. Love your explanation for why certain movements are done.
    My biggest problem with the one hander is lining up the shot and timing the forward part of the swing. As you know, once you start the swing there's no turning back. You have to release and let it fly. Understanding this, how do you go about lining up where you want to make contact with the ball in relation to your front foot...and how do you time the tempo of the backswing -> release? I think I'm used to my forehand swing which I adjust the speed and height of the back swing loop to match the incoming ball. I can't seem to find a good way to tell my body when to SWING. Not sure if that makes sense but it's really the only thing holding me back.
    Any advice is hugely appreciated. You're my favorite online teacher by far!

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  5 лет назад +3

      Josh, thank you for the kind words.
      The 1H backhand is the only groundstroke where we can hit the ball closer to the body laterally.
      So line the ball up with your hand!
      When to strike?
      I would wait as long as possible, maybe even after the bounce of the incoming ball.
      This is going to make the rhythm very intuitive.
      You won’t be able to think much, you’ll just strike!!
      Tempo of the swing depends on your intention of the stroke and the situation you find yourself when striking.

    I think the Federer style backhand is outdated and Wawrinka, Thiem, Tsitsipas and Shapovalev kind of introduced the next gen single handed backhand with the bigger upper body turn.
    To recommend Federer's only weak shot is pretty much kontraindicated nowadays. If he had Wawrinka's backhand, he would have 40 Grand Slams by now.

  • @Aidev7876

    I wouldn't take Federer as a good example of backend cause he is really not consistent. With all the respect, everyone knows that,especially him,let alone his opponents.
