I'm in the UK and about 7 years ago I got home from a night out, put tv on and this exact clip was showing of a feature programe about bing Crosby. I was so impressed with Jose who I didnt know of and did a quick search to see if A, he was still alive and B, if and where he was playing. It just so happened he was playing for the pope that night in Italy and was flying to england to play at a jazz/blues event the next day down the road from me! I managed to get tickets and was privileged to see him play live and appreciate his talent first hand less then 24 hrs after discovering him.

Un plus irrefutable: también extraordinario cantante... No he visto a otro que pueda El Vuelo del Abejorro o Flight of the Bumblebee con igual dominio de la técnica de dedos y con púa o vitela... No digo que no haya otro genio o prodigio por ahí, es solo que no lo conozco... JOSÉ FELICIANO ES UN GENIO ❤
The dude is one of the finest guitarists to ever walk the earth. It's hard to keep track of all the talent that just flows from him every time he plays. A true great.
Two cooler cats couldn't have come together for a better jam session. Bing is just so layed back, hip, cool...he had one of the deepest soulful (natural) Bariitone voices in Pop or Standards. He really had a feel for music. When he had his show he sang and did duets with many artist of different genres. Jose is just raw talent, behind that guitar he was on fire. He could make it charge like a frieght train or have it sing a beautiful lazy melody. His singing a phrasing quite unique as well.

Yes, there are great talent Paco is a fantastic in flamenco, Tommy Emmanuel is so fast, and other from latin america and spain fot those fields.. but NO ONE has the wide range of Jose Feliciano. Check funny things like this video.. but Jose plays equally classical pieces at same level, Jazz tune like songs of his "norwegian Wood, Flamenco, Blues, Latin, Folk.. just to Hard Rock -check hos version of Jimi hendrix Purple Haze...

José is not only an excellent guitarist and singer, he’s FUNNY! Not truly reflected in this clip, but he has quite a sense of humor. He says he almost made his mother have a heart attack once by faking being the driver on a car right next to another one she was riding, and saying hello from the steering wheel. He’ll play parodies in his concerts and make practical jokes on radio programs. A true legend. Greatest thing to come out of Lares since the Grito.

I watched this guy handle Malaguena solo on guitar with complete virtuosity. And then I watched him sing and play the guitar. I have never seen anyone sing and play the guitar so well.
When Bing started his career as a jazz singer he roomed on tour with the great Eddie Lang, who influenced the incomparable gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. Django died in 1953 thinking his unique style was passe, unaware that Crosby was scouring Europe in search of him. What magic those two musical giants might have created together boggles the imagination. Such a pity Reinhardt didn't live to hear Jose! He appreciated great musicians as much as Bing did all his life.

Jose used to practice 🎸 10 hours a day. In addition of his gift, he put the effort to excel his abilty to maximize that skill. In another, he is amazing.
This reminds me of the acoustic fireworks heard on Jose's "Alive Alive-O" LP of the 1969 London Palladium concerts. The final cut, "La Entrada de Bilbao" featured sound effects worthy of a movie!

I found his web site recently and sent him an e-mail to thank him for his contributions over the years. I received a response form his wife.
