Why must people compare great artists as if they were in competition. Can't we just appreciate their achievements and differences in styles. Atkins, Sabicas, Hendrix, Segovia, De Lucia and hundreds of other great guitarists have each made our world better with their efforts.
Chet always makes it looks like he's known the music his whole life. I've heard it said, "don't practice until you get it right, practice until you can't get it wrong." That's the genius of Chet Atkins.
One day you pick up the guitar and you feel like a great master, and the next day you feel like a fool. It’s because we’re different every day, but the guitar is always the same…Just beautiful.
In the case of some acoustic guitars, sometimes it's the guitar reacting to the weather and making what sounded nice before sound like crap. That is bound to affect how we feel.
@@darkclaw8959 well, I can only speak for myself and i can personally relate to the original post. Some days are better than others. Some days im really cooking it and new creative ideas are just flowing out of me, I can hardly get it down fast enough. Then some days I can't properly piece together licks and phrases, can't focus on where I should be going next, can't improvise like i know i should... Often it's when I'm tired or exhausted from work but sometimes it just seems like it's "not my day" type of thing.
@@darkclaw8959 we are all very impressed with how perfect and amazing you are. For a lot of us, we have good days and off days. Sometimes I feel like superman on the guitar. Other days I feel like I cant put anything together. Most of the time it's probably closer to the middle.
Mr. Atkins never needed to look at the strings. He only did so because he was looking on proudly as each of his 6 children hummed and sang to the people in the crowd. On the 7th day God rested...and Chet provided the soundtrack!
the people who disliked this doesn't know music. He's chet atkins, one of the best classical guitarist in this whole wide world... I wud always want to play the guitar like him someday!!
Chet Atkins was one versatile great guitarist. He along with other greats like Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, Charlie Byrd have left this world a more enjoyable place. Thank you all.
My Dad was a guitarist and all the guys you listed were all his favourites. He had a Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean which my brother has now. Thanks for stirring some great memories 😊
Mr Chester Atkins , oh how we miss you, talents such as yours are so very hard to come by. You were indeed very special. What you and your old friend, Jim Reeves gave this world will be enjoyed and passed along for generations to come. I wish you could know what joy you and Jim gave me in the time I have been on this earth. I hope we really do meet some day just to shake your hands. Forever a fan!
Hermosa canción , estoy sorprendida la calidad con la que toca la guitarra este hombre , muchas gracias al legado que nos ha dejado, un saludo desde Argentina
Chet grew up with spine problems so he had to sleep on his back all the time, he would practice guitar EVERY night in his bed until he went to sleep. that's how you get good at something, nobody is born with talent.
I wonder who in hell could give a thumbs down to this performance. I'd sure like to hear their stupid reason. I just wish some musician would make tabs for this beautiful rendition so I could learn it.
Ray I maintain it's just trolls who go around hitting the thumbs down on videos just to be pricks and get a rise from people. If they were serious and had a real criticism they would've posted on why they didn't like it
You can see him singing his guitar parts through his guitar. He breathes as if the guitar phrases are sung, i.e., takes his breath before playing a phrase. It's a great lesson on how a guitar player should conceive of guitar playing.
Apart from writing many fantastic arrangements he was responsible for the Nashville Sound he produced so many recording artists he was a fantastic guitar player how can any sane person put this man down
I was lucky enough to see Chet in a solo concert in a small theatre in the round back in the seventies. I remember it like it was yesterday and I'm still trying to get that sound.
Look at Chet just big chillin up there! It's like watching a big trophy fish lay under cover under a dock or a tree. Compare this playing to his 1963 Malaguena performance and you'll realize he is trying about 1% here. This Mrs. Robinson performance was easier than breathing for him.
One if not the most versatile guitar player that lived. Could play any style music and make it sound great. Was recognized by all as one of the greatest.
Actually, George got his sound from the Gretsch Chet Atkins. In this video Chet is playing his Gibson signature model. Either way, George obviously paid attention to what Chet played and how he played it.
SteveAndJohnnieShow but George really didn’t like it . He wanted a Stratocaster . He was about to buy one in Hamburg but another RocknRoll Guitarist beat him to it . I think George finally got one and used it on the Revolver and Rubber Soul LPs. Of course with the Beatle clips George is seen with different guitars like a Gibson SG and Telecaster . As a soloist George settled on Fenders and in particular the Strat , to which he invented that signature slide sound . Yes I do know where that Gibson SG wound up .
And Harrison later said ‘My guitar sound then was crap.’ Some have taken this as criticism of George Martin’s production, but Harrison seemed to me to saying ‘I’ve moved on to different instruments and sonorities and styles’ e.g. playing through a Leslie organ speaker box. The Beatles were recorded ‘clean’ in their early tracks, so what you hear is what they were and what they wanted. And that Chet Atkins Gretsch of George’s on those recordings chimes like a Liberty Bell.
I'll tell you what, I don't care what Chet Atkins plays , it's always the BEST ,no one can hold a light to him . He can drop a guitar on the floor and it would sound good. No one but no one has accomplished and I don't think they ever will, what Chet Atkins has. It's a crying ass shame he had to up and die on us........ The man could play "ANY SONG ,ANY STYLE" it's just a damn shame we lost him....!! JIM TRYON~~~~
When I was very young I always wanted to play like Chet. I don't think I will ever Master the guitar the way Chet did. I do love this style. But as I have gotten older, I have learned just to be myself as much as I can. Practice practice practice. Really do miss Chet
Nobody every played as effortlessly and tastefully as he. Like Doc Watson, who played a totally different style, he never played a tasteless note and never sacrificed the song to show off.

Funny how Chet during the second solo break was watching badly at the piano player who was late for doing his own part piano. Then Chet's not waiting the end to restart his own stuff. Amazing moment!
I got to see Tommy Emmanuel a few years ago - another amazing gifted man with a six-string ! But seeing les Paul in July 2001 at Iridium - that could not have been timed better !
Try to read up on how Chet got started as a little kid from a poor family, without electricity, and taught himself to play without lessons, developing his own unique style of picking and, gradually learning various styles from others. Being a master guitarist was only one of Chet's many achievements in the country and popular music industry.
+Howard McKay I'm sorry I absolutely love every one you have listed but it is extremely hard to come across ANYONE ever who has as much technical ability on the guitar as Chet Atkins. He may not sing too often but the man can play the guitar better than most everyone around.
I pity the 33 people who disliked this masterpiece. Those people deserve to listen to their Justin Bieber shit and not bother with real music like this!
Good luck to Chet. Wherever he is now. Yeah, I do know he's dead. But I believe he's at the God's Palace and with his beloved Guitar in his golden hands.

Since when is Chet Atkins a classical guitar player?
Assumption not based on anything. Atkins wasn't a classical guitar player. There's nothing to argue about here.
He played classical music and on classical guitars, but his specialty was country.
lol roasted for jus giving my opinion! 😂😂
