I used a slightly different version and LOVED it. One tip is to use a couple packing cubes, one for clothes and one for the items you’ll want to take out constantly on the plane so you can just grab everything at once. FYI they make versions with the laptop in the back ( I have both types) and was under $30 for me.
I love your videos, Kelly. I prefer your videos without music playing in the background, as I find it distracting to the content. Just my two cents. Thanks for the backpack review!
To be fair, the backpack that you purchased lacks a lot of key items from the original "viral backpack". The original design does have zippers that open all the way down on both the main compartment and laptop compartment, the laptop compartment is located at the back, there's an extra front compartment, another deep front compartment that is waterproof and there's an extra shoe compartment that can be accessed from the outside and digs into the main compartment's space. Yours has a similar appearance, but is a different product. I wouldn't recommend either if you want a personal item for constant access during a flight either, i think it serves more if you're gonna use it as your main luggage and keep a travel sling or small fannypack on you for grabbing headphones, documents and snacks. As for the durability, well, it's an Amazon backpack, so I wouldn't expect much compared to a higher end backpack that was made to last for decades.
I don't get the current trend of light colors (beige, white) for luggage. I recently took a trip and saw so many ppl with light or pastel colored suitcases, totes, & bags. All of them were grubby & looked awful.
I use my 35+ year old Jansport backpack that I had back in high school. Still works and still in great condition. They really don't make things like they used to quality-wise!
I have a bubblegum pink Jansport that’s 30 yrs old. It holds a lot and not a tear on it. Now I keep all my important docs, jewelry, etc we’d need to leave in a hurry, like a wildfire or earth. It stays in my safe. I now use everything from crossbody purses to carry-on sized luggage and travel organizers, makeup cases, you name it, from Lug. The best organization, pretty and light interiors that coordinate with the exterior colors. I can’t say enough about the brand. I wish Jansport made bags that opened like hers did. I have 2 from Lug that do that and will be using the darker one on a flight next month.
Came back to comment after flying with this backpack. I absolutely loved it. I had the zippers meet at the top. Very easy to get what I needed. I could slip my belt bag on the top. It is about packing strategically. My liquids bag was easy to access. I didn't pack a laptop but took my Kindle. It was well protected and easy to get to.
You can't always trust those reviews. Some of the companies don't let the bad reviews post to the account especially if they reach out to you and offer a refund. Even if you decline the refund the review still doesn't show up. I came across this at least 3 times.
My H Q D U P S super fakes are amazing! Most of my genuine bags are broken or torn! Unless these places start backing up their quality with warranties, I will never buy from them again. I can afford the real thing, I choose the best quality fakes because they don't break. I don't mind if something goes wrong.
I didn't like it either. I didn't send it back, though. I use it for my evacuation bag. It does carry a bunch of emergency gear, and I don't have to carry it around.
I've had the Nordace Smart Travel Backpack now for almost 3 years. My sister gave it to me as a gift. It's been all around the world, can fit a week's worth of things (I'm a light packer), and has held up AMAZING. It fits perfectly under the plane seats with just enough room for my feet too. I use it daily as well for my work backpack to hold my laptop, documents, and all my chords. I'd highly recommend it!
I have a similar backpack and I love it! Compression cubes make a huge difference, I use them so if I accidentally dump contents they are contained 😂 I have a lightweight trolley that I use with the backpack , that can easily be folded to fit inside the backpack if needed.
I bought this bag from a different noname Amazon brand last year, and hated it for similar reasons. I was especially frustrated by how heavy it is - they claim it’s only 2.4 lbs but it definitely felt heavier. The laptop sleeve being in the front pocket made NO sense to me, and is wholly impractical in terms of theft prevention. I used it once and had to convince myself to bring it back home. It it essentially a soft shell suitcase you wear on your back, it doesn’t function like a backpack. Easily my worst Amazon purchase. Glad to see there are others who hate it as much as I do. Thank you for sharing!

I've used an Eddie Bauer 35L backpack that I bought at an Eddie Bauer factory outlet store for about $40 as my underseat bag for several years. It's cheaply garish looking in color, doesn't have a sleeve to go over a roller-bag handle (but i don't have a roller bag for it to be mated to anyway), and has been everywhere from Anchorage to Tallahassee to Maui to Los Angeles with no problems. It's a bit big for underseat, but - combined with my carry-on going into the overhead bin - has served me quite well...
Thanks! I almost bought this bag (or one just like it) but hadn’t thought about the clips getting in the way and the laptop being up front, so taking your advice and avoiding
I found a backpack at target that I love. It has a wide opening for the main compartment. You can stick a basketball in it no problem. It has storage for my laptop, iPad, chargers and cords, a compression pack for an emergency outfit, snacks, water bottle, a small blanket and a few other odds and ends. It’s not the prettiest bag but I kinda like that. Less likely to be targeted if I don’t look like I have a lot of money. I also have my trusty Swiss Army backpack. It’s pretty heavy duty but has more and smaller compartments. I can’t shove as much stuff into it. It depends on my destination and if I’m traveling solo which backpack I will use.

I have a little $19 backpack that I got at Walmart about 10+ years ago. It has been everywhere with me as a backup for the car and hotels. It stays packed so I can grab it and go. It's sturdy enough and has never let me down. I have a Mystery Ranch that I use for actually traveling.
when you are looking at backpacks, even though a pocket or section seems large, look at the depth of the gusset for that section. that is what will tell you how much you can put in there.
I have a very similar one from Amazon. It held a lot for me, including my little sleeping bag. The charger slot does make it look old fashioned now somehow. 😂 I don’t like that mine doesn’t have water bottle pocket outside. The zippers are cheap and feel like they will break sooner than later. It’s too bad it doesn’t have a little pocket on top for little things, so you don’t have to open the clamshell bag all the way - but at least the stuff is more or less secured with a strap or mesh zipped cover, depending on style - Amazon has so many knock offs of this popular style.
if you haven't donate it yet, can you donate it to me ?? :) One thing going for it is that it looks nice. I like to try it as I am planning to travel soon. Thx for the honest review :)
every time I see the computer pocket on the outer side I immediately disregard the backpack... I think its gonna bend, and with the sintcher, im definitely gonna bend it...
I had to find a new backpack for my Mexico trip recently. I don't carry a laptop with me and finding one without a laptop "pouch" in it that has multiple other pockets is near impossible. The pouch is padded so it takes up space, and it's no good for carrying much of anything other than a laptop except maybe some small amenities bags for toiletries, and the other pockets around the laptop pouch seem to be designed to be used for the laptop accessories. I also wanted to get one that either had all the openings/zippers one the side facing my back so none were exposed to pickpockets, or had TSA combination locks to keep them safely closed, and an easy to get to place for my Passport and wireless earbuds. Add to that trying to find one's with those features that was big enough for some clothes, etc, and not just for carrying books around campus narrows down the list even more! I ended up having to go to a website that specializes in hiking, travel, and security/"preppers" (end of the world people!) to finally get one that works. Great thing about it is it has plenty of attachment points to clip on carabiner rings, water bottles, and had "moly straps" to attach other accessories or smaller add on bags.
I bought two of these, one for myself and one for my girlfriend I could not fault it. It's amazing for the price especially considering the competition and the price point. We travel a LOT, all over the world and although not the best looking or most pretentious it certainly does the job.
I have that backpack and for the price point and for a few trips a year it is perfect for me. It is affordable but you are correct it gets filthy even with light use.
I bought one and am excited to try it out. I have been carrying my Adidas backpack for years and it works but it doesn't sit well on my carryon. I also only paid $20 on a deal so if it doesn't work for airline traveI can use it RV travel which is what we do most of the time.

Torn as to whether to use a duffel bag or a backpack for my carry-on; going to a comic con in September via a long-haul flight, and I do have some back problems. I don't know what kind of bag would be easier on my back, but a backpack is tempting because it can double as a bag for the convention.
After lugging a duffel and personal item with shoulder straps worn cross body style, I switched from duffel to backpack. The load is more balanced left to right which I find more comfortable..
Best reccomendafion would be a Lug Summit! The top handle is the same. There is a gusset to make sure all of your stuff doesn't fall out while you're getting in and out. They were also the first brand to make the stowaway straps like in their Steamboat.
I have this one in black (I was afraid of a light colour exactly due to wear and tear), mine has the laptop pocket in the back, a wet bag pocket at the front and a bigger pocket for the smaller items. It is heavier than I expected but I do like it! I thought I would be able to use it daily but it's a bit big for that but will work for weekends well.
I bought this same bag, but I am using it as an additional luggage for clothing but carry it like a backpack. I recommend getting a bag to fit your traveling needs. If you don't like bags looking dirty, then steer away from light colors. Good review.
Yes, as a professional traveler, I recommend people getting bags that fit their traveling needs as well. That's why I returned this one, because it didn't fit my needs.
Oh i was thinking about it! Using it as an hand bag/personal item. Is there a kg limit for personal bags too or size matter? Using a cabin bag and this bag instead a smaller bag would take a lot things that you won't need checked baggage i suppose. As front pack backpack
i have the ksibnw eastjet cabin underseat bag. and used it twice one on train journey and one on a plane and love it. it opens up like a suitcase but not sideways but long ways and the laptop bit is int the back where nomrally is in a racksack and thats where i put all my electronicals for the scans. wide padded shoulder arm things and really comfy. will use it again for short trips as i go on quite a few with my disability company i work with so better then pulling along my small little suitcase
Backpacks and travel bags are very personal. When my Hasselblad tote fell apart after decades of use, I went thru three failures until I found a suitable replacement.
@@jessicaflux For the past 7 years I've been using a very old smaller bag as my personal item. It's on its last legs so I just got a 'Gator' bag from Red Oxx to replace it. Had that old bag for about 50 years.
If you don’t mind me asking, why did you find your old backpack not ideal for traveling anymore? I believe my son had one and it served him wonderfully but I'd like to know if others, like you, found some drawbacks to it. Thank you!
I was just hoping to find something that was a little more organized. I may one day find something better, but using the other backpack made me appreciate it more!
@@theawkwardflightattendant I totally understand that. So it's actually not that bad. I'm happy to hear that. Thanks a lot and hopefully you'll soon find one that suits your need best!
All very good points. I settled on Decathlon Escape 500 backpack after contemplating buying one of these Chinese rebrands. I couldn't get past so many negative reviews about poor long-term durability, especially horror stories about where the shoulder strap connects to the bag.
I have this exact backpack, and I love it! True, it gets dirty, but I just wipe it down with a Lysol disinfecting wipe, and it comes perfectly clean. I also don't ever travel with a laptop, so I use that space for something else. I also love that it has a wet pocket, like for a swimsuit, keeping my other stuff dry. I've used it for my trip to Iceland and South America. Now, I am planning on using it as a personal item flying Spirit for my trip to Vegas!
I got one of these, intending to use it as my carryon, not as my underseat bag. Here's hoping it will work well in that capacity. I have a crossbody Travelon bag (large) for my underseat.
Do you have the right bag? 🤔 The one receiving rave reviews had a shoe compartment, chest strap, more and better functioning internal/external pockets and appeared more stable and better quality. The fabric was an oxford type?
You are definitely right about the show compartment. Maybe if they had the shoe department like the duffle bag with a zipper compartment and then just fit a small/medium packing cube inside but understand about your height and clothing being an issue too.
You said you use the Swiss Gear pack as a personal item but did you mean as a carry on? I thought personal items had to be small and must fit under the seat. Thankfully airlines seem to be enforcing carry on rules recently.
I use a backpack by JanSport (a brand I have used since middle school) and it has pockets for laptops, tablets, etc. I don’t fly standby (and based off of bad experiences I avoid it altogether) and because of my back I don’t carry-on any suitcases. Anyway, I have had that backpack for almost six years and I love it.
@@Truenorth747 very durable, I use mine for travel and everyday instead of a briefcase for work. Love the outside pockets for my water bottle and thermos of tea
I'd skip bringing a laptop to my holiday.... It's just distraction. We have phones on us anyways. Then you can use the laptop compartment to store something else in it. (maybe those items you need to access during the flight). I also just like to put all my most frequent items I use on a plane (hand sanitizer, tissues, snacks, charger) into a ziplog bag that i just pull out before takeoff and place in the seat pocket in front of me. That way I don't have to constantly reach under the seat, i can just place my backpack into the overhead compartment (if there is space there) and I can keep my leg space ;)
I grew up with no sisters and an alcoholic mother, so no one to teach me how to do eyeshadow. But thank you for extending me kindness, random stranger on the Internet. I feel so good about myself now

All very good points. I settled on Decathlon Escape 500 backpack after contemplating buying one of these Chinese rebrands. I couldn't get past so many negative reviews about poor long-term durability, especially horror stories about where the shoulder strap connects to the bag.
I hope it’s still good to use! My friend recommended me that one and I’m going to buy it instead of the Amazon one!
I recently put my 15yo Swiss Gear backpack out to pasture and replaced it with an Osprey NOVA backpack. It's amazing. In general, I love Osprey.
I love my fjalraven bookbag with laptop section.
I bought it and sent it back the next day. For the same reasons you explained.
Some people are mad at me for not liking it lol. But it just didn't work for us! And that's ok
Great video, Kelly. It was very helpful because i try to not check luggage when i fly. Thank you for the information
Omg, I thought I’m alone in this. The reviews were great but too bulky for me 😊
I got one of these, intending to use it as my carryon, not as my underseat bag. Here's hoping it will work well in that capacity. I have a crossbody Travelon bag (large) for my underseat.
What is your recommended good travel backpack with kids. Thanks!
I literally just ordered this from Amazon, then I watched this video. I immediately canceled my order 😂 so thank you!
The travel backpack was so small. I hated it.I love using my Jansport to travel
That’s not very nice
What's not very nice?
All those random brands on amazon are various Chinese manufacturers.
I keep looking at it, but i really hate all the buckles on the outside. 🤨
Do you have the right bag? 🤔
The one receiving rave reviews had a shoe compartment, chest strap, more and better functioning internal/external pockets and appeared more stable and better quality. The fabric was an oxford type?
This bag received rave reviews
What’s wrong with the Swiss backpack?
I now see that there is nothing wrong with it! Haha
@@theawkwardflightattendant lol I just bought a Swiss backpak to travel and I was second guessing my self after your video
Haha, those strange brand names are made up by Chinese companies.
I hated it too!
I hated that backpack too. I bought it and gave it away immediately
I just bought one. I will use it this month.
FYI I just got one from North face and it’s an awesome women’s travel backpack. Check one out, it was an amazing find for me! 😍
Same! Totally uncomfortable. Big mistake!
Thanks! I'm sooo not getting the Amazon backpack
THE REAL QUESTION IS “ DOES IT OSS THE SPIRIT AIRLINE PERSONAL ITEM SIZE”
Tried to like this twice; absolutely hated it both times 😑
You are definitely right about the show compartment. Maybe if they had the shoe department like the duffle bag with a zipper compartment and then just fit a small/medium packing cube inside but understand about your height and clothing being an issue too.
You said you use the Swiss Gear pack as a personal item but did you mean as a carry on? I thought personal items had to be small and must fit under the seat. Thankfully airlines seem to be enforcing carry on rules recently.
Nope, personal item. It fits under the seat
Jansport is the OG! I bet they make great travel backpacks
Does it fit well under the seat?
professional backpack factory🥰
I love that bag.
Love this so much love the zipper sounds

😂😂😂
I think you are over reacting
Not liking a backpack is overreacting? Okie dokie then
I travel monthly and use a LOVEVOOK backpack, it fits under the seat but has lots of storage and different compare to, you might look into it.
Me too
I just got that one, I liked the look and how it opens on top. I hope it's durable .
If we left our laptops at home, we wouldn't be able to make any money to afford our travels! 😆😆
You should blend your eyeshadow. It's weird and blocky. But yeah I agree. I don't like this backpack either.
I grew up with no sisters and an alcoholic mother, so no one to teach me how to do eyeshadow. But thank you for extending me kindness, random stranger on the Internet. I feel so good about myself now
