- Опубликовано: 10 окт 2016
- In this episode of Wood Vibrations, Mike Dawes shows you how to play guitar in a very unconventional way - by using two-handed tapping to play while the guitar is on your lap. For tabs, check out:www.guitarworld...
6 chromatic keyboards... you just gave me a whole new perspective!!!
I remember watching Erik Mongrain's "AirTap!" over and over amazed by his skill in this technique. Your lessons are great with just the right balance of humor and instruction. Keep doing what you're doing Mike!
Nice to hear a shout out to Erik Mongrain.
Fantastic player, and also a fantastic teacher. Really enjoying his videos.
you just gave me so many ideas for playing!
Lovely hammering and pull-offs with melody
This column is getting better and better!!!!!!
Mike, you are my favorite guitarist these days.. had the opportunity to meet you last year at a show in Escondido...you are an epic player and a great teacher. Thank you.
It's so amazing to be early to these videos, seeing all the earlybirds that are thankful, instead of hating and disliking for no reason.
Omg I feel like I'm learning guitar all over again lol. My fingers don't want to do what I want them to.
I love it
Loving all of these lessons. You are an excellent teacher!
you are amazing Mike!!!!... seen all your videos and have all your stuff!!!!..... keep on keeping on!!!
Thank you, beautiful and amazing
"She hates it whenever I try to speak French" LOL
Boy, the little "karate chops" do sound quite different, with that percussive attack sound.
I saw Chick Corea reach into a piano one time, and didn't realize what he was doinf (it wasn't a mute or pluck). I guess it was probably a string touch to generate harmonic vibrations as you do here with the light touch. I will have to go back and see if i can hear it. I think it was in one of the collabs with Hiromi.
The more I watch this stuff, the more i am thinking of picking up a guitar and learning a few things. I like the fact that you can take the instrument anywhere to play, unlike say, a piano or organ.
Sir, everything you touch it turn to music 🎶 👍
Cool exercises, you made my evening - thank you!
Yes it was helpful, thank you very much
"It's not the size, it's how you use it."
Okay.
Sakhawat Hossain that's what she said
@@broskino2756 that gives us a little bit of confidence isn't it? :))
LOL... my mom had dropped my guitar and the head had fallen off.... priceless
If you like this style of playing as well as Erik mongrain. Take a look at MEXES channel he does a beautiful song of his own called "Besitos" where he uses standard tuning on the guitar. Beautiful piece of music. Also try Morf on his channel too. He sings too on some song's good voice.
They are all very good & create beautiful music.
That sounds great im gonna learn that style put it into my style thanks for the tips
"you will get used to it" ha! I could never get used to playing as good as he does, I would never stop smiling if I could do this ;-)
He's saying he had lots of trouble at first like everybody.
Everyone with fingers can adapt to this eventually.
The first time I saw the guitar played like that was in this movie called August rush. I think that was the name of it
I have been putting off trying to learn this style of guitar for a long time. My accoustic is very old an was inexpensive but i love its sound....i suspect it might have a pretty high action. Is it normal to have extreme difficulty getting notes to sound hammering on with the left hand? I have no problem with the pointer finger but even my middle struggles to hammer on....its like starting all over again lol
Great lesson. Could you please tell me what kind of black pick up you are using? I love it too. Thanks.
NUTS about Mike. I could watch him all day. Swoon.
Perfect. I'm already in dadgad tuning
Cool and very nice sounding🌞
Stanley Jordon "acoustic lap style". Very cool!
It's my dream to play Guitar like you
Nice lesson
Hey man thx this really helped me a lot I just started playing guitar not that long ago and I love it I wanna go big with it I wanna give people hope and love with god but I don’t know where to start you got any tips?
Thanks VERY much to Guitar world and Mike Dawes for posting this video. I am coming back from a hand injury. This style is part of my plan to return to playing. Question - I use extra light strings. Do you recommend going with a heavier guage for this style?
I had a stroke in my left hand and arm are paralyzed I just hearing to play guitar again so I’m trying to find different ways of doing it
Mike Dawes, please tell me how and where to actually find complete lessons for a beginner to learn this method! I have suddenly decided at age 60, and not to mention hand deformities and arthritis that I need to play guitar! I am wondering if there are books on this method? Also, I prefer an electric guitar. Can it be done on electric guitar? This method would solve my issues of grasping the guitar neck the traditional way! I’m so excited to see this! Gives me hope. Please let me know where I can find books or videos on this. Seriously...total beginner here! LOL! Thanks in advance for any help!
Bonjour de france !!
Amazing. Wow
Great lesson! However, not the best camera placement :(
Hey Mike, I haven’t played guitar in about 5 years because sadly I lost interest but have seen this video and have suddenly become so intrigued with tap playing
Just wondering do the strings need to be tighter to do tapping?
damn hes a genius
haha the ending! xD
Great lesson Mike :)
Do you need an acoustic/electric for this to work?
Thanks
awesome
mr dawes, do you have a lap tapping song??
thanks
hi.
thanks for that help! Nice Video, very helpful.
I have just one question, Is there another or a special Tuning if you want to do lap tapping?
He mentioned the most popular one, DADGAD
00:10 lap dance lol😆
It's not the size, it's how you use it Hahaha :') !!!
Beautiful guitar, music, and absolutely beautiful tone! I never liked the pickups on acoustics until now, always soundes unnatural, not in this case, why would that be?.
if you can see from his guitar, there's 2 jacks. probably one is the pickup somewhere hidden, perhaps usually under the bridge(?), 2nd is the d'addario pickup on the sound hole, and also his guitar is mic-ed up. combination of the 3 + careful mixing will produce such a tone
why is there 2 inputs in the guitar ? did he add another one or?
What is the guitar tuned to?
U really so amazing
Where I can learn to play like this??
Can i do this as a bigginer
What's the tuning guys?
Спасибище!!!✨👑🎖
Hello, is it a standard tuning? Or special tuning? Can you tell me the tuning from 1 string to 6 string?
D A D G A D
hello, nice playing! What's the guitar you play on?
it's a Cuntz guitar..
what place is this ??
no dislikes and no hates
Shimigam Daiski Right?? It's like the sole Shangri-la of the entire interwebz. ;)
why are all lap style guitar played other than standard tuning ?
ruchika bn Mike always plays in dadgad because it's easier to get harmony
Cause its ur thinkning u can arrange lap style song in standard also...bro got it
Cgcggc is another..
Open tunings allow for harmonies across strings.
For example using CGCGGC tuning.. You can use your two right hand fingers to add more depth to the 4th and 5th strings... Or you can hit two alternate notes in the scale, like 3rd fret and 5th fret easily...
Standard tuning is good for basic scales and chords and yada yada.. But the lap tapping in standard gets... Messy 😂
Especially because of how you have to reach some notes etc
I had no idea that I can paly a acoustic guitar in this way
erik mongrain
You keep referencing different chord shapes, but 1. we are in DADGAD. I don't know any chord shapes in DADGAD. 2. You are naming chord shapes with augments and diminishes. I don't know those outside of DADGAD.
Where do we learn these different chord voicings/shapes you are referencing? The entire last 1/3 of the video goes from beginning to advanced, with no real instruction on building the gap in between for those of us who are less than advanced players.
Help?
Jeremy Brewer You sound like you may be at a place in your musical journey where it would be useful to move beyond chord shapes to a more harmonic understanding of the guitar - or music in general. Mike's notion of considering the guitar as six piano-like lines is key here.
I don't want to insult your intelligence, nor do I want to talk over your head, but I remember the frustration of music sounding like a foreign language (which, it sort of is). I'd like to try helping fill in some of the blanks, if I may. How strong is your understanding of basic harmony (intervals, chromatic layout, major scale formulas, etc)?
Chord shapes don't change with the tuning.
He always references what he does relative to standard tuning.
For example a C major shape will be the same chord shape and notes no matter what tuning.. Tho itself wouldn't be a c major chord
Mum drops Gibson Les Paul. Thanks mum, god rest her soul!
Who the hell gave this a thumbs down?!
my stringss are far feom the board soi csnt tap
when I tap I hear 2 notes at ones. I don't know how on these videos that doesn't happen.
I think that's because both sides of the string play, but guitar pickups only record one side of the strings.
WOW thank you I didn't find the tuning in your description I found it somewhere else, did you tune it like this; C-G-c-f-g-e, I clicked on your link in the description and found D-A-D-G-A-D. Can you say something about those two tunings?! I found the other tuning played by this guy; ruclips.net/video/RWzQK5B_G-o/видео.html
What's the tuning?
DADGAD
i tot you r pianist, but you are
*ERIK MONGRAIN FTW
Your hands are in the way..
