This is absolutely AWESOME, but my brain hurts after watching this...lol...I actually just booked a 40 min lesson with you for Dec. 13th as I really want to start learning this style of guitar playing with adding the percussion to finger picking. I'm a full-time musician and I'm always looking to challenge myself with new things to learn. I usually focus on strumming and singing + live looping guitar/vocals, but this style really intrigues me to be honest! Looking forward to our lesson as I'm going to really work on this stuff in the next month and a half until our lesson. Thanks for the tutorial as it is VERY helpful in breaking down this technique.
I recently saw Mike when he opened for, and played with, Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues doing a trio gig in San Diego. He was absolutely mind blowing on his solo stuff, and very tasteful when he was backing Justin. If you're a Moody's fan, don't miss this. It's like a mini-Moody Blues greatest hits tour and it was really good.
This is absolutely AMAZING! I've been playing guitar for 30 years and I'm a full-time musician between performing & teaching and I've always been intrigued by this style of playing guitar. I'm delving into this style big time and I'm loving it. I realize it's going to take a while to really get down pat and it's DEFINITELY a challenge, but it's also fun to challenge ourselves as it's the only way to really grow as a musician is to break out of our comfort zone. Looking forward to the Zoom lesson I recently booked with Mike Dawes on Dec. 13th as I'm giving myself about 5 weeks total to get this style decent before the lesson...making progress! This video helps A LOT!!!! Thanks so much Mike! :)
Right before when he added the cheese and the bass together I told myself I wouldn't be ready for how awesome it would sound. Even after telling myself that and when I heard the cheese n bass I simply laughed out loud at how amazing that was.
Mike; "I absolutely love the cheese"! LOL. Nothing cheesy about your gift though man. I don't play anymore so I really enjoy your videos. Keep demonstrating and playing and I'll keep watching n listening. ❤🤘
hey mike know this vid is an old one but I'm curios if you have created or is there a tablature for your type of style and playing I know they have tabs for most instruments I'm half deaf so tabs are really the easiest way for me to learn I'm hoping there is man, you have really inspired me to learn your style its just to hard to play with others because of my hearing , one more thing I just had to let you know I heard your song today the old room live at cedar hall ,omg man idk if its was the tuning or pitches or what but I was able to hear the whole song and hear every note chord I've never heard sounds like that it broke me to tears I was born deaf and and can hear a little now but i can't even do that yet on my guitar lol i still have to go half on feel ,thank you for that mike I mean that you made me a fan for life today
Awesome stuff. I would never be able to play this type of stuff, but love it nonetheless! This dude is just a straight up virtuoso. Impossible shit for me.
Really enjoying what youré putting out, Mike. Great teacher. This sounds a little like the intro to, {Wooden Ships - Crosby Stills Nash and Young}, but I don't know if it's the same musical mechanics? Thanks, Dan
Question: How much do you think your guitar needs to be amped to play this style? I know that everything begins with the hands, but anyway, I think some articulations won't come out properly without an amp. Is an electro-acoustic guitar enough or do you add something more?
The tuning of the original song and what he has told i.e. DADGAD is different. In original Video the Bass String is tuned on C# but in this tutorial video Bass string is tuned on D.. What is the actual tuning?
Hey everyone, the full video for 'Overload' is now on my RUclips channel. Enjoy!
sorry i am late
but where is it ..... i couldn't find it

So humble, likeable, unbelievably good, funny and going deep in uncharted waters! How cool of you to take time to share your gifts! Thanks!!!
Nice to see that fingerstyle gets more attention on these popular guitar channels.. keep it up
One of the best series on this channel!
And this guy is so mindblowing.

At 5:50 Mike says the guitar is in DADGAD tuning
Awesome stuff. I would never be able to play this type of stuff, but love it nonetheless! This dude is just a straight up virtuoso. Impossible shit for me.

Fantastically skilled
"so you can try and play along" pf
You could make a cool acoustic version of Sober by tool with the initial riff
So glad someone else heard that
Hey Mike how many years you been playing??
Amazing
Mike, do you have another tuning on your guitar? - Inspired lesson :-)
Me during the video: "Cool! I can play that!....and that...now that's a bit tough but still....I quit"
super cheezy rocky montage!
Question: How much do you think your guitar needs to be amped to play this style? I know that everything begins with the hands, but anyway, I think some articulations won't come out properly without an amp. Is an electro-acoustic guitar enough or do you add something more?
i guess a good pick with mike up would be more important in the case. which could pick all that up
he's got like 4 different pickup in the guitar
its ok for you...….you're a musician.....we're just wont practice......you're wonderful...…….respect
Can someone please tell me what the song is playing at the very beginning of this video?
scarlet in the intro hell yes
Hi Mike, what kind of acoustic pick up are you using?
Entertaining
Are you in standard tuning?
cool !!
noob question: what's the intro song title?
where can I find this song?
What is the intro song
Thats a hella nice sounding guitar, which one's that?
Hey man, that's my signature Andreas Cuntz Indian Rose. Google 'Cuntz Guitars'. Clear your search history afterwards.
Hahahaha, thanks man. Great advertising tough
IKR? It has a lot of power to it, a noticeable level of resonance. A lot like a dubourg guitar.
I'll have to check out cuntz guitars some time
What guitar do you play?
does anyone know what guitar he has?
is this in DAGDAD Tunning ? :) 'cause he often plays with this kind of tune :)
marine le brun Yes it is
a real snare! A MAN SNARE! now thats funny :P
Can someone tell me the tunning ?!
In this video he's using DADGAD, but the actual song is DADGAD tuned down a half step...
The tuning of the original song and what he has told i.e. DADGAD is different. In original Video the Bass String is tuned on C# but in this tutorial video Bass string is tuned on D.. What is the actual tuning?
its dadgad in this vid. in the official video its dadgad a halftone lower so the bass string is c#
tuning?
DADGAD - He said it in the video
Need jam play don ross
The drop is DADGAD or no?
The same as DADGAD but one step down
@@MrLyketysplit I think Mike said it's DADGAD tuning, but the recording is down a half step.
5:22 the bassline kinda reminds me of tool lmao
what is the song of the intro of the video ?
It's an excerpt from his cover of the song scarlet by periphery. Amazing isn't it?
isn't dadgad what is?
dope as f*ck
I tried this...I'm just gonna stick with strumming G Major a lot
there is not the partition on guitar world yet...
How about he shows the song somewhere first
It's on my channel now man :)
mikedawesofficial Yep, and yet another damn good composition.
First Part is good explained but then everything much to quick for me to follow.
