Used to pass by on the freeway to see the blimp when I used to go to my aunt's house as a kid. Nostalgic~

I grew up in Koreatown LA and I never really left the city like that growing up. I remember when I was a kid my dad took me to Carson a place I’ve never been before and looking out the window in a open field was the Goodyear blimp just sitting there. I was blown away. There was some go kart tracks close to the field. Great memories.

I think your referring to Ascot Park Raceteack in nearby Gardena. Closed in 1990
I live very close where they park and keep the blimp.Many times I’ve seen him take off slowly and fly away!.. marvelous!😘

Incredible! Blimps have always been my most favorite aircraft. I was at that spot earlier, in March 2015. It was amazing.

Magnificent IS an understatement!!!!! This Carson facility opened in 1968, and is still going strong. Always a pleasure to watch the activity here.

I hear that, I think it's a real shame that only big money giving VIP's and family can only experience a flight in one of these, I buy Goodyear tires also. I have been very lucky to have been invited to fly in one otherwise I would have never flown in one. Was Matthew St. John on station when this was done was Taylor Dean already one of the pilots and I believe William Bayless was the other Pilot. Also Hello to Daisy, Priscilla, Brandon, Luis, Tony and everyone BlIMP Bass Carson I’m stuck here in Akron now and I miss all those guys!
Kristen Is in Chicago Now I guess raising a family I miss all the days going down to the blimp base and hanging out with the crew those were fun times! they’re not as open here in Akron a little tighter but still a great crew in Akron I love all the guys here Jerry, Michael, Ed etc.But I miss Carson. And I miss the G. Z.- 20s!

Awesome as always, Ed.!!!!!! Thanks for filming this. Life-Long Goodyear Blimp Buff. I DO like the new Zeppelin NT, but there's NOTHING like the sight and sound of the older GZ-20A. That 1/169 scale plastic kit from Revell is such a JOY to build. If you're interested, get the sealed, 1975 issue (w/water-slide decals) off Ebay. Later issues have peel-n-stick decals that have HORRIBLE adhesion.
I was very lucky that I got a ride onboard the old Goodyear Blimp GZ-20A and also a ride on the new Zeppelin NT with Airship Ventures out of Long Beach back in 2008. Dear Ed, Was just out at Wingfoot Lake today! (09-12) "N1A" was outside on field while "N2A"was in hangar with half completed "N3A" Both ships are now in Akron! As "N1A" (Wingfoot 1) was flown up here to avoid "Irma"! Chief pilot JERRY HISSEM told me that BOTH ships will be seen over AKRON Skies this weekend (09-14 to 09-17)?!

I see they finally got rid of that giant billboard on the south side of the field Kristen told me she always hated that sign there. She said it used to make her uncomfortable coming in and going out.

@@EdWhisenantAviation : yes, I’m very happy for her for Kristen Kristen Arambula. Yeah I flew with her too out of Carson or Gardena whichever location you want to use the way it was explained to me was that the administration building the little office building is actually in Gardena and the field is in Carson so it’s right on the line at straddles the border between Carson and Gardena. Very interesting, yeah she’s a good pilot,…. Goodyear’s loss…, I happened. to be visiting the field and Carson when she was going for her final flying test before being certified as a pilot. She was very nervous that day as I recall going out to the field to take her final exam. The rest is history.

It's called "Up Ship". It's used when the weight is low, if the weight was high, it would do a rolling take off. The Spirit Of Innovation was the last "Goodyear Blimp" 1925 - 2017

Great question, I was at the facility watching one day and a guy departed from the blimp and asked me if I had been on it before and I hadn't so he set me up with a ride.
How loud was the blimp?

Cool. Why did they changed the number from N2A to N4A? Did they pick the number N4A as an honor of the N4A Columbia?
Ya, I'm not sure of the change, I hate to say it but I haven't followed the history that close in the N Number's. Maybe someone will see your comment and answer you back. Thank you for watching :)
It's possible. Columbia N4A was in service there (7L0) from July 1975 through Spring 1986.
I have a question some of the new Goodyear blimps have a flag from other states but the one that bugs me is the one from California the California Goodyear blimp does not have the flag on the bottom of it hanging it has been removed just wondering why, if anyone knows the reason why please please let me know yes the one in Carson California does not have a flag

Yes it's an older blimp and I think they dismantled this blimp already.
+Ed Whisenant This Goodyear blimp was officially retired and put of service on March 14th, 2017. He will be put on permanent display very soon, and I also hope that you're very excited to see the Goodyear zeppelin NT "Wingfoot Two" (N2A) move to its new blimp base in Carson, California. This Goodyear GZ-20 blimp model "Spirit of Innovation" (N2A - 2006-2015, then N4A - 2015-2017) will be missed and remembered. Anyways, thanks for sharing one of the very best and last moments of this blimp on video. I mean, really - it just means a whole lot to me and to all those Goodyear blimp fans out there.
