Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata has always touched my spirits, and since my son became aware of its beauty this piece is also one of his favorites as well. Classical music reminds us, some things are eternal and will stay forever, regardless of our ephemera existence.

Beautifully played. This great Pianist is such a brilliant interpreter. A beautiful person as well. She loves and tries to save wolves as well, and is quite a humble style of person. Incredibly clever and unassuming. Thankyou so much for posting this. It is a favourite piece of mine by Beethoven ,and then to have it played here by Helene Grimaud, you have made me want to jump for joy. John ( Australia)

it is said that this is a bonus track in Hélène's album Emperor, but so far I can't find that bonus track. Amazon's physical CD doesn't have it. iTunes US doesn't list that song, but has a digital booklet but I don't think the song is in a booklet... oh well, where can I find it really? It in fact should be one of Hélène's best playings... it is said that she sees colors when she plays the Tempest (black and blue) and the Well-Tempered Clavier (red and orange)... I wonder what colors, if any, she see with Moonlight Sonata...

    • @gordonpepper1400

Chateau d'Yquem.

I just love Hélène Grimaud's passion, absolute commitment and total abandon to the music, but unusually, I found this disappointing in the way she places emphasis by delaying significant beats. To my mind that interrupts the serenity of the music, which should glide forward like a swan, rather than like a swan which keeps getting a foot snagged on hidden underwater obstacles! Some years ago I had a selection of Beethoven sonatas, I forget who by, possibly Pollini, which were full of the same tempo interruptions. I soon got fed up with them, sold them on eBay and got a complete boxed set by Brendel.
