That being said, that "taunting" in the beginning against Iowa State is straight up fireable. That ref should NEVER ref another game at any level for any sport.
Targeting calls are perhaps the worst called penalties in the game. That Louisville Ole Miss game is exactly that. If a runner ducks his head, there's not much the defender can do about helmet to helmet contact.
@maekklyn Facemask to helmet contact was also considered targeting as well esp in the first years of the Targeting call epidemic. It's a pointless penalty, considereing that spearing is already illegal in football. How come they never call the runner for targeting when they lower their head and body to keep the defender from squaring up into the tackle? All this call does currently is create an unfair advantage for the runner/ball carrier.
In our (SDSU) game vs Boise, there was helmet to helmet contact led with the crown of the helmet and it took out our starting qb (and we went on to lose 35-13 after being up 13-0 at half) and it was ruled no targeting. The QB was out the entire game and the next one in concussion protocol from the hit... No targeting in the smurf turf tho.

I think at first they were watching the actual punt returner. The kick wasn't close to him at all. When they watched the replay they saw how close it came to the blocker. They did seem biased but it's also hard to say the evidence was indisputable. Players' reactions aren't usable as evidence.

There was a whistle that the refs didnt acknowledge (or didnt hear). The rule is once he was wrapped up and forward momentum was gone the play was dead but since they didnt hear the whistle they let him keep running. (Notice the TN defense even hesitating to grab the ball)
People trying to defend it saying the whistle was blown are full of sh!t. The Vols blew up the play action, sacked the qb and stripped the ball but the refs got a call from Vegas and were told to make some BS up to take the points off the board. Ole Miss was also constantly faking injuries in this game to slow down the hurry up offense. Anytime the vols would get momentum on a drive one of the Ole Miss players would magically just collapse to the ground and then once the defense caught its breath and made substitutions the injured player would just pop right up and walk to the sideline.
