Ironically, I'm pretty sure this is the only Home Alone movie I ever saw as a kid. I distinctly remember the toy car, and the cranky lady neighbor who loved sourdough bread, and the parrot. I remember thinking it was hilarious when the parrot said "don't come in I'm naked." Truly the pinnacle of child humor

I actually think the message of Home Alone 3 is similar to the first two. The kid’s family underestimates him but it turns out he’s smart and brave. Also, Alex ends up having a touching moment with the mean neighbor the way Kevin did with the old man and the pigeon lady. Finally, unlike the first two movies it is believable that a mom would leave her sick son at home to go to work for a few hours instead of forgetting him on a family vacation.

Yeah pretty unrealistic that they would leave a kid behind on a family vacation, but it kinda makes sense because in the movie there were two cars, and there was supposed to be 6 people in one car and 5 in the other. When they counted heads while the kids(not including Kevin) were getting in, each driver assumed that they were just the car with 5 people in it, leading to the family leaving with only 10 kids instead of 11.

I actually really like this one. I think people forget it is mostly because it came after the legendary first two, and went with a new family. It still had effort, comedy, a functional story (stupid, yes, but functional for a comedy), ingenuity and good actors.

Honestly this was not a bad film. There's movie magic because the story is being told through the eyes of a kid, but in a kid's movie, I don't see anything wrong with that. The storyline made sense once the details came together, and the movie held its weight in comedy. In the end, I think it is not as loved in the trilogy because people who remembered Home Alone 1-2 had a strong connection to the original characters (especially Kevin).

Something i did always enjoy about this movie is how it felt like the stakes were being raised every time. First movie is a kid by himself defending his own home from burglars.
Second movie is that same kid by himself in a place completely foreign to him, fighting off those same burglars who found out he was there and wanted revenge. Higher stakes because Kevin is now a priority for Marv and Harry.
In Home Alone 3, it's a completely different nightmare scenario for a child. Arguably worse than having no adults to help, having plenty of adults who just flat out do not believe you. And this time it's double the enemies and they're also on a whole different level of skill compared to the Wet Bandits. ... At least they are until a child recreates a Saw movie

I'm with u. What I liked about this movie was the fact they gave us more of what Kevin's character needed: his family realizing he is an amazing kid. In the first two movies, the family always arrived when Kevin solved everything and no parts of actually thanking and people recognizing Kevin apart from strangers. But in this one, his brother had to swallow their pride and see how the youngest brother did more as a kid than they will ever do. As a kid, I saw it as the last thing Kevin's character deserved and at least Alex got it. Watching it as a kid, Alex's ending the criminals was badass

I always liked Home Alone 3. I think it’s underrated. The first two films were special, but I appreciate they tried to do something different, instead of reinventing the first film 50 or more times. (Home Alone: Lost in London? Home Alone: Lost in Hong Kong? You get the idea.) One thing that might have been better: I used to get one or two of the male spies mixed up as a kid, and I never had to worry about that with Marv and Harry. If the spies had been just a little more varied and interesting, maybe it would’ve been more memorable.

Those "three hours" were FULL of danger, adrenaline, and fear for Alex. And when his mom gets home she sees all of that and she's unsure if he even survived.
When he sees her, he sees that she believes him and the euphoria he felt seeing her was him feeling not only accepted, but actually safe.
Her seeing him was pure relief that he was unharmed and guilt for not believing him and leaving him unprotected, as well as making him feel rejected.

That is important to note that the danger Alex felt was a real danger that was far bigger than anything a little boy should be able to handle. Meanwhile, Kevin's mom only knew that her son was at home alone. to be honest, any kid that wasn't a complete spaz, at his age should have been alright for a week or two. But then, he should have never actually been able to be alone, because there's no way the police would have just accepted that him not answering the door meant he wasn't there. They would have busted the door down if they had to, to be sure the kid hadn't cracked his skull open or fallen down the stairs somewhere.
      ...
Also... you do realize in HA1 Kevin was in danger a shorter time technically. He overhears when the burglars notice he's alone and from then knows exactly when they are coming back. They weren't chasing him around the house for 3 hours (and his mom never found out about it). Meanwhile, Alex's mom realizes that her son was right for the days he'd been reporting to the police. For days her son's behavior is now explained, including when he told her it was the 'bad guys' on the phone. I think this movie has a good message, but it's the opposite of the the first two. Like you cover, the first two are about Kevin learning the value of family, the holidays, and life in general. This movie doesn't have the kid learn anything, but instead it pushes the focus more onto the family and society to learn. I always took it as a message about adults dismissing children because of wild imaginations or prankster attitude's and how we need to treat children more like real people, even when the context may push us to do the opposite. His siblings make this change when the FBI confronts them at school and they push against government agents because they care and the mom, despite trying to be caring, also dismisses him at almost every turn until he finally starts lying to her constantly.
Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but I love this movie and I felt very seen when I was younger when I watched it. Even now, if I'm honest to most of my friends and family I feel like I'm just being dismissed and my concerns are ignored - it's only when I lie that they think I'm actually 'improving' or 'doing well'

I agree. Much better plot than 2. And so much better than having the kid run around lost in NY and finding a vacant house to rig his traps for convenient burglars he faced previously. The cops telling Alex not to call them after coming out twice was a nice touch to get the story going. And having them go after one item as opposed to just breaking in houses worked better too.

A boy defending his home from burglars versus a boy defending himself from literal terrorists... None of these movies are realistic, obviously, but come on.

this one's my fave out of the three, mostly because how over the top it is with the spy stuff and how crazy the kid was with his traps. plus, the villains are quite horrible people for what they did to the old lady. I still enjoy the first two, but this one's always a good time for me to watch every year.

I had this one VHS and watched it all the time lol. This is the only one beside the 1st and 2nd movie, I don't mind watching as a kid. I remember some of the traps being pretty brutal like the lawn mower and pool traps. I didn't think much of it as an kid, but them thieves should be dead. I also thought it was cool because noone took the kid seriously when he said there was danger, so he took things into his own hands. And in the end he got vindicated with everyone realizing he was right. Its holds a special place for me. I probably watched it more than the other 2 as a kid.

I came to check the comments first and I'm so glad to see others who loved this movie. I still enjoy it, and I think part of it is the fact I like the family dynamic a lot more in 3 than 1 and 2. The Macallisters are awful to one another, and so much of their dynamic felt wrong to me as a kid, but I liked the family in 3 much more. I also still find the pacing in 3 more enjoyable on rewatch, as 1 and 2 take a while to really get going (though 2 has more fun with the wish fulfillment section.)
Though that weird 'tie grandma up to freeze to death in the open garage' moment will never not be a weird thing.

This was actually the very first Home Alone movie I saw. Waaaay before the first one.
So despite the fact that Home Alone 1 is iconic (as well as Macaulay Culkin), the third part will probably be my personal favorite, just because of the nostalgia:)

I think Alex is missing the point of home alone 3, in third movie nobody believe him because he always creating excuse and lying so when he telling the truth nobody believe him. At the end, they believe him and her Mother Who worried so he hug him. I bet Alex didnt have kids

When I was a kid, I had 3 VHS tapes: Home Alone 1, 2 and 3. And I enjoyed the third one just as much as the first two, without even thinking about the different actors and new story. No one will ever make me think this is a bad movie, because it isn't.

I absolutely love this movie just as much as the first 2. This movie has more intricate traps and he takes down a way higher tier of criminal that was on the fbi most wanted list compared to low level burglers. This movie is just as good as the first 2.
