Here we go, I thought , when this came up in the feed, another random useless amateur video. But it's actually comprehensive, informative, covers the practical stuff, thanks, brilliant vid.
👍 I don't remember exactly what i said in this but i understand where you're coming from, most reviews are just amateurs reading the specs off the side of the box & quite often don't even show the machine working 🤷♂️🤦♂️, I don't do those shitty reviews, If I do make one it's because I like a tool or I want to share details I couldn't get for myself before purchase. 😁👍
Always makes me laugh when people leave comments on how useless or bad certain channels are. But you deserve all the sponsoring you get, just would be nice if people can be civil about it. If anyone is 'as advertised' it's you. Great saw, used it a couple of times and it's one that'll do about 95% of the cuts for most probably. We just bought the big Makita last week, going to set it up tomorrow. Always fun a shiny new toy.
Thanks, yeah the comments were mainly about my hands n nails on that splinter vid, those people click on a vid with pus in the title then say they're going to throw up at the sight of a working mans hands, pathetic, Yep Makita always have made good toys, I'd have got Makita for the bigger saw but the specs on that were 105mm i think, the Dewalt is 110mm, i wanted to be able to def cut a 4" post, sometimes those posts are a little bigger than 100mm. & my old Dewalt lasted 20yrs+ 👍 Makita is my no'1 choice tho for accurate machines generally, my old routers are 25yrs+ 👍
Thanks Mike, yep i'm ok, bit old but finger didn't drop off 😁👍 I'll be uploading again soon, just needed to do a few things before the weather turns & the work, filming & editing begins again, I'll be back 😎👍
I have the same saw gid and I can honestly say it does just about everything for me skirting back moulds door casings it’s a really good little saw I love it 👍🏻
Thankyou Chris 👍 Yep i'll be back with more, just needed a couple of wks to sort a few things out before winter starts setting in, The work, filming & editing to come will take my time so a little calm before the storm so to spk, keep well 👍
Thanks Bill 👍 Yep, it'll cut the sizes of timber I use, only 13.5kg, that's 1kg heavier than the little Dewalt but still light enough 👍 cordless means I can get a good sq cut easily, sometimes when i'm at a house & all i have to cut is one piece i'll do it by and or with the jigsaw n a sq 😊👍
I'm only at the top of that hill, I'm quite happy with Bosch 18v stuff i've got but there's stuff i didn't want in Bosch, like my little Makita router, multisaw & 9" angle grinder... there's a sml list 🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️😂 Thanks Keith, i'll be back 😎👍
Thanks Charles, yep new toys 🤸♂️🤸♂️, I've been doing a few bits for myself but a few smaller jobs here n there at others houses, the big Dewalt is too big to cut just 1 bit of wood & both Dewalts need a lead, I'll be back with more vids in a bit 👍👍
Thanks John 👍 yeah good for those few odd cuts but it does all the sizes i'd need a reg day so good all round, & yeah handy for working out of the van but also fewer annoying leads when i'm crapped in a room, 😁👍 I'll be back 😎 in a bit
Thanks Stuart, much appreciated 😊👍 yeah it should be good, no more leads when i want to make just a couple of cuts, & my finger is fine thanks, it was a bit annoying knowing it was tin there but it hurt the most when it went in, wasn't the first n won't be the last 😂🤷♂️👍
good to see your back Gid your ma watch on Friday night take away and beer night i only knock about with DIY stuff my self and its good to get tips of the pro's and am a bit of a tool junkie
Tool junkie tell me about it 😂🤸♂️ helps to have the right tools tho, I'm glad you're picking things up from my vids, that's what i make them for, sometimes it's the little tips that can make all the difference, Thanks Derek much appreciated, i'll have the rest of the alcove cupboards uploaded soon & there'll be more to come 👍
Thankyou Dominic & welcome 👍😊 I've been a joiner 37yrs, i've got a few £k of editing software but i only film my work, i don't work just to make YT vids if that makes sense, so sometimes there's gaps between uploads, there's the occasional vid like this where i can update you the subscriber of my whereabouts & i think it's a subject worthy of sharing, & the odd Vlog of my welding practice/progress but you won't get any bull from me, it's mainly joinery, I like to keep my vids simple & to the point, eyes on the job, I don't plan on retiring for a while there'll be many more to come 👍👍
Hi gid happy new year hope you had a good Christmas. I'm in the shed doing a tidy and was looking at my dust extractor it has a nvr switch on it and most of the time when I'm going to make a cut I have to walk about 10 feel to turn it on .. was thinking of extending the switch wire . Can't find the video you did on yours if you could send me a link it would help me out. Many thanks p .
Thanks Simon, yep i'll be back in a bit & glad you learn from them, my next job is some alcoves, i've made vids on those before but every job is different so hopefully i can deliver more tips 👍👍
@@Gidjoiner yeah I'm good thanks. Good to hear you have some exiting projects to come in the next couple of months. Shame the saw is only a single bevel, if it was a double bevel I would buy one. I brought the smaller 18v one with can cut a max of 50mmx100mm, which is perfect for stud work and paneling and small bits. But don't always want to drag out my big 240v bosch so was hoping this might be the middle size one. Good to hear your doing well tho. 😊
Thanks, yeah i took a sort of break before the busy time working comes & the editing i'll be doing as i'll film as much as poss, That sounds similar to the saw i threw away, the one those end supports hanging in my shed are for, that'd cut 95mmx95mm, that's ok but i need to do skirting etc. To be honest the bevel not going the other way doesn't bother me, until i got the Festool & big Dewalt all the saws i have/used are single bevel & even now i hardly use the other bevel, occasionally it's been useful but at the mo i wouldn't miss it if it wasn't an option on any of my saws. I guess it depends what you're used to 👍
Hi Gid, i brought the same saw when it first came out and had same problem as you with it not cutting all the way back. Behind the depth stop trenching screw id another screw with an alen bolt head. I unscrewed that a couple of turns, problem solved. I dont know weather you know but under the locking leaver on the right hand side you have a button which when pressed lets the head bevel over to the right up to 5 degrees for back cutting skirting etc. Ive had the saw for some time now and wouldnt be without it, ive cut roofs with it and general carpentry tasks. It is a bit unstable but once you've fitted saw stand clamps that will sort that out. Hope your happy with it as i am. Looking forward to your next project. All the best. Phill 👍👍👍
Thanks Phill, i'll have a look at the depth screw 👍 & i did read about the 5º to the right but thanks for reminding me, i had forgotten 👍 just got it but yeah seems like a nice saw, I've had a couple of Makita mitre saws in the past n they're always good for accuracy so hopefully this will live up to it's predecessors , yep i'll be back in a bit, just needed to sort a few things out before winter n the chaos of the jobs i mention start & the nights of editing that will come, keep well & all the best to you too 👍
It’s great to see you back on here my friend keep up the good work I wish I could do the same but my ill health prevent me, been doing this same thing for 50 years , still have the interest but not the health , great to watch 👍👍
Thanks Baz 👍, it's only been 4wks but yeah i needed a break to get some stuff done before winter, & the jobs coming up are going to keep me busy, i'll film those but editing can take most of the night, 3,4,5-6 days of the wk depending on how many vids, so before all that begins i needed a little calm before the storm 😁
Gid...you'll love it! I've got a big Makita 240v and it's such a pain in the arse to take out for most jobs. Got myself a 714 18 months ago and it's become my most used tool after my impact driver. In fact I'm just using it on a job now. It's got a decent cut capacity and I can carry it in one hand.
@@Gidjoiner I know you said you don't use them, but did your side rails come with support feet? Stops them sagging and has a post on top that lines up with the back fence, so kind of extends the fence. I use mine a lot because I can't be bothered setting up a saw stand most of the time (especially if I'm doing quick jobs) and so I just sit it on a couple of trestles. I do keep meaning to change the fixing screws for a couple of thumbscrews though cos it's a pain in the neck needing a screwdriver to secure them every time.
I opened that package today, it was a bundle wrapped in bubble wrap, I'd ignored it with the instructions 😂 I didn't fit them but the old extensions that are in the shed are the same size so i'm considering cutting them down a bit, maybe by half & then fitting them with those supports, & yes i'm going to do that, change those screws, it' a bit shit of Makita not to make those thumb screws, I've got this site bookmarked that i go to for 'stuff' or inspiration, I just need to have a look n see what thread size, M4 or 5, don't remember but don't think it was as big as M6 www.accu.co.uk/en/
@@Gidjoiner That looks like a useful site. I'll remember that. I was just going to bob into Bolt and Nut Supplies on the Grangefield Estate next time I'm in Pudsey. They normally have stuff like that and always really helpful.
Thanks Aaron, yep the vids i watched on this saw were lots of talk & not much action 😕 it seems like a nice little saw , it'll cut the regular sizes of wood i'll be using 👍
I got it from Screwfix £539, i could have got cheaper elsewhere but to be honest i didn't look much, Screwfix are just down the rd, pretty reliable & easy if i need to take it back etc. the batteries i got from a local hardware/tools place £74 each, i already had the charger
Classic Gid, And there’s me not giving the splinter the time of day by cutting it out with nail clippers. Didn’t realize I was missing out on a cordless saw. Good to see you happy pal, but remember to make us happy by posting your work. It’s always a bonus when you slag off other peoples work, so don’t be shy old boy🤣
Yep you should've let it fester a bit n put it n YT 😂 I made that splinter vid Public just fro the hell of it when i uploaded the panel vid, so if they want to say i've got dirty fingers then F*em, i've got £500+ worth of saw from a splinter 😂🤸♂️😂🤸♂️😂🤸♂️😂 I've got some decent jobs coming up 👍 Thanks 👍
Yeah if any builder was worried about a bit of muck getting in a cut they wouldn't be able to do their job, I just delete them comments, I'm not interested, they're full of 💩 & YT doesn't like swearing so i can't tell them to F-off 😉
That's quite an Armada of mitre saws you're building up Gid. Re not doing full bevel cut: My Makita mitre saw ( a 1018 ) has an adjustment for setting the maximum depth the blade will descend to. Maybe yours is set a little high?
It's just another in a long list over the yrs 😂😂 I'll only be using those 3, Kapex lives in the shed, the big Dewalt for those jobs that need it, & i think this will do most from now on 👍 yeah someone mentioned the little grub screw that alters depth, i've done that on other machines so i'll have a look, for the 50mm timber the saw mount rubs on the top of the wood so not much i can do about that without getting my angle grinder out 😂🙈 but i read this in the specs pdf for 45mm timber & is prob why i wasn't too surprised in this vid, it says page 2 - '45 mm x 265 mm (NOTE 1)' , note 1 is - 'Max. Cutting capacity when using a wood facing 20 mm thickness', I'm guessing they mean a wood strip on the fence, that's why i think i wasn't making a big thing of that but had forgotten or didn't fully understand what i read 👍 but really Makita, you shouldn't have to add a fence to bevel 45mm timber, www.icmsmakita.eu/cms/custom/uk/user_manual/DLS714.pdf
Thanks 👍 Yep seems like a nice toy n sorry about the splinter, I'm not going to make a habit of posting pussy vids 👍 unless something worthy comes along 🤣🤣
Good to see you with the van set up and decent kit, Gid. Makes life so much easier, doesn’t it. Bought some fence panels to match in from Atkinsons last week. Couldn’t believe the price hike, even on trade!
Thanks Peter 👍 having the right tools is always easier, every 10yrs it seems they need updating, my old Dewalts & Makitas lasted 20yrs+ so maybe this will be the last time....there's always a new toy out there tho 😁🤸♂️ Yeah it's ridiculous, as i buy stuff i update my spreadsheet list that i keep for easy pricing, quite a few have been double to what i have listed, before i give clients a quote i check for the latest prices, that summerhouse has been rescheduled for next yr, she decided against it when the price quoted was £1k more than orig quoted but she's had a rethink & it looks like it's back on, hopefully the prices might come down a bit by then.
@@Gidjoiner its the same with the plumbing and heating stuff Gid. You can’t quote now without getting material quotes first! I bit the bullet and bought the festool chop saw. Never thought I would. I’m not using it on the job, workshop only. Its a joy to use and should have done it years ago despite the price which was sleep depriving. Im not expecting it to see me out but with gentle use will hopefully last 20 years until I’m a proper old boy. I bought a small Metabo 240v chop saw last year, about £120, just for small lugging about as I cant be doing with heavy saw carrying as I get older. Metabo used to be fab. What a load of crap. It jumps on start up, screams like a bugger and just isn’t nice to use. It’ll be on ebay soon.
😁👍 Yeah my Metabo was shite from day one, way too much play in the head but i bought as a cheap saw for decking that if it got pissed on a bit i didn't care, it served it's purpose till it died. The Kapex has a vent on top that i keep blowing out with the compressor, when cutting it flashes ⚡, i think that's dust getting in & poss why you read about the motors dying, & the fence i had to put some Ali tape n to stop it wobbling but it cuts beautifully, the positive stops seem to go back exactly 90º/45º, I've no regrets spending the little extra on it, & yeah i'm getting on a bit, this saw is only 13.5kg & cordless means less trips for my legs 👴👍😁
@@Gidjoiner thats a good routine to have Gid. I blow out all my power tools every so often, it definately helps. Same with metalwork power tools. All the grinding dust gets into the armatures and unlike wood dust it transmits electricity. I have the woodworking tools atbone side of the workshop and the metalwork tools / machines at the other side, I dont mix them. Really dusty stuff I do outside. All machines on wheels etc. Seems to work.
Turn my back for a second and new toys arriving 😂 brilliant looks smart ideal 😊 love the way you’re redesigning it and tell bits to f ***k off 😂😂😂 I have got loads of those hold down clamp things from saws they just get in the bloody way 😂glad all ok and going well mate 👍👍👍👍👍👍
😂😂👍 ½hr editing a 6min pussy splinter vid paid for this & i'll have another toy from that vid but YT has pissed on that video, they've stuck an 18+ & limited/no ads on it due to it's shocking content 🤦♂️😂 but it was a good ride while it lasted n i'll have a new toy soon, not sure what yet tho, Yeah small portable & does all the size cuts i'll need for a reg day 👍 Keep well yourself, I'm full of snot at the mo but i'll be right 😷😊
@@Gidjoiner nice one glad to hear you made a bit you deserve it . All good here thanks had a shitty cold but gone now , just relaying some tiles in my kitchen a load came loose can’t have primed the floor all the gear on the tiles !! Hate it when I find a bodge especially when I have to put it right in my own house 😡😂 shit happens . Bring us another vid soon keep us smiling 😊
Thanks Stu 👍 Glad you appreciate that, mainly why i made this, lots of talk & not much action, with very little mention on the depth cutting capacity & depth setting in the vids i watched, they're pretty much reading what is written on the site page when you buy it, 😕,
I wish my little cordless DeWalt had the depth stop and dual bevel. Otherwise it's a great little saw. I was hoping this Makita had both. The metabo has all the bells and whistles but I'm loath to pay 1100 bucks for a saw made in China. Thanks for the review!
Thanks Barry & you're welcome, for me the dual bevel would be nice & a very sml part of me wished it had it but most of my career i've used a single bevel like this, it's only since i got the Kapex & bigger Dewalt that i've had that feature at hand, it has come in useful a couple of times but i can accept that it's not on here, I suspect in the future the majority will be dual bevel, & yep Metabo are a bit crap, there's much better saws for that price. there's a cordless Makita that'll cut 90mm but it's twice the weight of this, i bought this as a sml lightweight one.
@@Gidjoiner yeah. I agree on the dual bevel. Most of the time I can get away without it. But on some occasions its necessary, then I have to drag out my big DeWalt. I'm glad you mentioned that the metabos are crap. Every now and then I think about their dual bevel 7 1/4, but again I can't imagine spending that much on a Chinese saw.
Providing the bore is the right size you could fit a smaller one, you'd lose cutting depth so I don't know if it would then cut right through the wood, these are 20mm bore so a little rarer but I have no prob getting one at an acceptable price,
Good to know 👍, it seems like a nice little saw & like you say light enough to easily whip out, i haven't checked for sq yet,, been doing other stuff but i will, 👍👍
@@Gidjoiner yeah! I also have the kapex 120 in the workshop and it’s night and day difference. One thing the blade that comes with it is terrible, and I got a lot of blade wobble which you noticed on the cut, where it’s not smooth if you get me! It’s great for finishings etc, 3x2 4x2 but anything more I just used the circular and square, saves the battery as find the bigger the timber the batterys don’t last long!
Thanks, guess i'll see how the batteries go, i don't do a huge amount of cutting anymore & when i do i'll prob set up the Dewalt 👍 I'll have more of a play with it n see but i'll prob do as you say for larger cross cuts, i've the cordless plunge saw & a GRS-16PE guide rail square that fits on my tracks, i've a short length 600mm-ish i keep just for that 👍
Nice saw Gid. Do you watch finish carpentry TV on here? He's swapping over to all Makita from being fully loaded with Dewalt. Are they the new front runners? I'm Dewalt now, but started with Bosch but they seem to be falling behind in power tools now in my opinion. I'm currently trying to decide on a track saw or a table saw from Santa. I don't have a workshop but love them both and thinking a track has the edge with being able to store away easier. What would you pick if you could only have one?
Hi, Makita is my no'1 choice normally, if i want accuracy & life expectancy it's Makita, my routers are 25yrs+, but Dewalt make fairly rugged tools & have been good to me, my old little Dewalt saw is 20yrs+ n still works but is a little stiff, that's what i replaced the little Dewalt with, the saws we used to use on site were Dewalt & before that it was Elu (practically the same saw) I was wanting the bigger Makita when i bought the big Dewalt but the cutting capacity of the Makita was 105mm i think, some of the 4" posts i cut are a little bigger than 100mm², the Dewalt is 110mm depth of cut so easily cuts the 4" whether it's that fraction bigger or not, I bought Bosch 10yrs-ish ago because i wanted a ½chuck driver with power for tightening bolts, I'd killed a couple of Makitas & Dewalt drill/drivers in the past so went for something else, that drill's still going so bought the Bosch jigsaw, i really like that & it's quite a few yrs old too so ended up on the Bosch battery rd, I was always going to end up with Makita 18v tho for things like my little trimmer router & the track saw...👍 Hard to say which i'd choose, you've seen my tools n i bought either depending on what i thought was the better & i'm fairly happy with my choices,
I bought the same saw when it came out, three Years ago I think. I wanted something portable, lightweight but with good cut capacity and power. I was already on the Makita 18V battery platform so that swung it for me. It's a great little saw and lives in my van permanently along with my flexvolt tablesaw and Makita 36V track saw. The side supports are handy but Makita should have designed them so they can slide into the body of the saw if your not using them or for packing the saw away in the van. I find the hold down clamp handy for cutting mitres on wide boards or cutting really long lengths of skirting. I've cut through the hinged part of the fence on the left of the blade more than once, 🙄 I'll probably upgrade to the 40V 216mm mitre saw in time. The head on that saw bevels both ways, 👍 🔨 🇮🇪
👍 Good to know you still like it, Makita are my no1 brand, then Dewalt but 10 or more yrs ago i bi=ought the 18v Bosch drill to replace a few Dewalts i'd killed tightening bolts on decks, that Bosch drill works fine still, I bought the jigsaw because of that drill & like that too so ended up on the Bosch battery, I'm quite happy with all the bosch stuff i've got apart from the impact driver that's a bit pants for anything bigger than a 3" screw but it has come in useful a few times, there's some things like track saw & trimmer router that were always going to be Makita, the multisaw's going to be Makita too, the Bosch one only takes Starlock blades & is still an Allan key fixing, & for me the dual bevel would be nice on this saw & a very sml part of me wished it had it but most of my career i've used a single bevel like this, it's only since i got the Kapex & bigger Dewalt that i've had that feature at hand, it has come in useful a couple of times but i can accept that it's not on here, I suspect in the future the majority will be dual bevel, I've got the little alloy supports to fit, the old support bars in the shed are the same size, Makita haven't changed that for 20yrs, yep time they upgraded a bit but i'm going to cut the old ones down a bit, maybe by half & fit them alloy sq things n get a thumb turn to attach them instead of that crappy screw at the back,
@@Gidjoiner Agreed, historically Makita make really solid dependable tools. I have some Bosch cordless kit as well, 18V Brushless SDS, an 18V Brushless hammer/drill/driver and a brushless 18V O.M.T. They are great tools and have never left me down. I have had good luck with some DeWalt kit as well, Flexvolt table saw, Flexvolt compressor and a Flexvolt tower light. As I work on my own I have a lot of kit as I don't have anyone else to fall back on. My way of thinking is if it makes the job easier then buy it. Our line of work is hard enough besides working with crappy cheap tools that will invariably let you down on a Friday afternoon, 👍 🔨 🇮🇪
Yep agreed 👍 can't really add to that 😂👍 i buy tools that will cost the price of a job but i'll always have them in the future if i get the right brand & i'll be able to take on a job & do it prob better & easier, I'm slowly trying to make all my kit cordless, get the compressor out of the van n no more hoses, there's still a couple of tools i have tho like the coil nailer & metal connecting Strapshot, Dewalt do that but i'm reluctant to get another set of batteries & i'd have to buy the charger, 🤷♂️ might have to do it tho, i've got a Velux to fit on a third floor attic, one nail gun, compressor & hoses vs a single cordless one 😂👍
@@Gidjoiner Don't rule out the Flexvolt compressor, portable, light and gives 120psi line pressure. Personally I feel cordless nailers haven't arrived properly yet. I still prefer a pneumatic set up. That's why I feel the Flexvolt compressor and some quality pneumatic guns are a great combination for finish work especially. I have my eye on that Bostitch Straphot and a Bostitch concrete finish gun plus a Senco mid-size coil nailer, 👍 🔨 🇮🇪
Nice little saw that, not bad from people’s comments good or bad, it’s a good way of looking at things if you can say to people thanks for your nasty comments you have bought me a saw, it’s far better than letting those little tick turds get to you, great to hear you’ve got some more work/videos coming up looking forward to them, cheers for now mate 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺
Thanks Graham, just took a short break to prepare a little for winter before the work n editing comes along 👍 yeah F'em, their comments just add to YT'a algorithm making my vid popular & i'm quite proud of my working hands, i'd prefer them to be the way they are than like the princesses that commented, Yep i'll be back soon, just thought i'd check in n let you know the score, Keep well 👍
Hi, sorry this is late, yep pretty much, I cut down those big arms that stick out the side into a more acceptable length, I wanted this to be small light n easy to use,
@@Gidjoiner All good mate, enjoy ya vids. What's the play like when the rail is extended ? Some chap on another review video managed to cut out some of that blue plastic where the saw slides between, its made me a little apprehensive about ordering, whats the accuracy like in your view? You have an opinion I trust!
Hi, this is my no'1 saw, it's going well without any problems, Makita so it works as well as it did new & there's nothing I can pick out that I didn't mention in this vid 👍
😁👍 Thanks Philip, I've still got the old Metabo & my old Dewalt so.. that'd be 6 😂 then there's the Makita & little Evolution metal cutting saws, can i count them in 😁
Yep, I use it more now than the Dewalt, the Dewalt is corded & this is cordless, It's what I used on the reclaimed door cupboard. For a while I couldn't afford the dewalt mitre saw stand mounts, £60-£70 😱, always forgetting when I had time & a bit reluctant to take the ones of the Dewalt saw because I might want to put that saw on the stand one day, then when i did buy some mounts they sat in my room until I finally did get my a$$ in gear & got them on the Makita saw, then got poorly. 🤷♂️ But yeah it's the one I get out now. 👍
Hi, haven't used it much yet, I cut down the arms that attach to the sides, I wish the sliding rails didn't stick out the back, that's the nature of most of these saws tho that do the depth stop channel cutting, except the Festool but they're many £s more. apart from that I've no complaints, (there's always something to moan about, I'm sure I'll find more if i look hard enough 😉)
@@Gidjoiner thanks for the reply, yes that's the only thing putting me off are the rear rails,I've had a shot of the 40v at work but it's a bit too expensive for me just now
"You bought me a new saw" 😂😂😂 fuckin love that 👏👏 Saw looks decent as well. Not sure about the Makita but the metabo has a grub screw adjustment to let the blade lower just that little bit extra. Might get you that last wee nick it needs to clear the cut without having to use a sacrificial fence.
😁👍 Yeah i did elaborate on that a bit more, about how they click on a vid with pus in the title then post their pathetic comments about my dirty hand n nails making them throw up, that they were just adding to YT's algorithm n making my vid more popular, but decided not to leave that in 😁 Yeah seems a nice saw & nice idea but it's the blade mount on the other side that rubs on the top of the wood stopping the blade going down,
Yeah that doesn't seem right but I read in the saw's PDF www.icmsmakita.eu/cms/custom/uk/user_manual/DLS714.pdf it says page 2 - '45 mm x 265 mm (NOTE 1)' , note 1 is - 'Max. Cutting capacity when using a wood facing 20 mm thickness', I'm guessing they mean a wood strip on the fence, that's why i think i wasn't making a big thing of that, someone suggested that depth screw, i'll have a look n see 👍👍 but really Makita, you shouldn't have to add a fence to bevel 45mm timber,
@@Gidjoiner no your right you shouldn’t have to add a fence, check the two rails where it hits the rear part of the saw, somtimes my saw dust stops the saw fully going back as the saw dust builds up where the rails are
I'll have a look, i used to get that on the little Dewalt & i did notice when i cleaned up in the vid to put the dust bag that the manufacturing grease on the rails had make the sawdust stick on, need to give them a good wipe, so far tho all that i've done with it is what you saw in the vid 😁
The mount for the blade scrapes on the wood at the other side preventing it going deep enough, when editing i could see the lines it made on the top of the wood, I'd have to get my grinder on it 😁👍
Just realised you may have meant bevelling on the 45mm timber, I read in the saw's PDF www.icmsmakita.eu/cms/custom/uk/user_manual/DLS714.pdf it says page 2 - '45 mm x 265 mm (NOTE 1)' , note 1 is - 'Max. Cutting capacity when using a wood facing 20 mm thickness', I'm guessing they mean a wood strip on the fence, that's why i think i wasn't making a big thing of that, someone suggested that depth screw, i'll have a look n see 👍👍 but really Makita, you shouldn't have to add a fence to bevel 45mm timber,
@@Gidjoiner yer was the depth screw that I adjusted on my 260 blade saw coz a bought a few cheap but we’re only 255 so set the blade deaper so went through the timber
Yeah thanks, i've done it on other saws, there'll be a little grub screw somewhere probably, so far all that i've done with it is what you saw in the vid 😁
nice to see you back Gid lad. I might be missing something - but surely that saw is faulty if it won't complete the cut on the bevel? Maybe I'm just being naive but no saw I've ever owned has that problem - but you seem to be treating it as an accepted limitation rather than a fault?
Thanks James, yep nice little saw, Sorry i didn't go into details & wasn't thinking but i read in the saw's PDF www.icmsmakita.eu/cms/custom/uk/user_manual/DLS714.pdf it says page 2 - '45 mm x 265 mm (NOTE 1)' , note 1 is - 'Max. Cutting capacity when using a wood facing 20 mm thickness', I'm guessing they mean a wood fence piece?, I wasn't sure when i read it & the bevel size is a bit confusing, but that's why i wasn't surprised, i think i knew there would be some working out 😊🤷♂️ yeah you shouldn't have to add wood to make a simple bevel
@@Gidjoiner good to hear your alive buddy and think we is all feeling old and cold now with this energy bollox. Some fookers getting rich at our expense. You take care.
I’ve got the hikoki 10 inch cordless saw. Had it a year, it looks the bollocks but doesn’t cut accurately whatso ever no matter how much adjusting you do, wouldn’t trust it to cut fire wood, I’m on the market for two new ones at the moment. Quite fancy the festool 120 for 2nd fix work but from what Ive seen it’s not a fan of being moved so no good in the van. Also fancy the Hikoki 7/1-4 saw for the quick arcs around loft hatches and what not but at £1500 that’s silly money really.
I can't say about the Hikoki but my Metabo was shite for accuracy from day 1, didn't expect too much from it tho & i don't think i would from the Hikoki, Yeah the Kapex mitresaw is very accurate, no play in the blade as you pull it out & it locks back to exact 90º, but. the fence needed a bit of Aluminium tape to stop it wobbling & i've read about the motors burning out, they're prob on site being abused, the vent for the saw is on top, so dust gets in there n while cutting you sometimes see a flash ⚡ I blow it out with the compressor, it's good but not the 100% good that i would expect from a saw costing over £1k. I don't regret buying it tho but it's big n bulky & i suspect a little fragile, i bought mine for the shed & that's where it stays. My old Dewalt lasted 20yrs+, this new bigger one & the little one are quite accurate, Dewalt are hard to beat for site saws, Makita i've never really used on site, in all my yrs it's been either Dewalt or before that it was Elu, those were pretty much the same as Dewalt.
@@Gidjoiner your probably right about the Hikoki but I have all the other gear and that’s all top notch, think I paid £750 around a year ago with the 2 bats and charger so I kinda expected more at that price point. The festools also brushed which I never really took into consideration.
@@Gidjoiner I’ve got till December to decide about though so time to ponder, all I seem to be doing at the moment is oak veneer doors so no rush at the moment. The 36v makita track saw is earning all the £ recently.
Yeah hard to say, as you see i've got a mix of saws but i do tend to go with what i know, Makita or Dewalt, the Kapex was a bit of a gamble but it does cut very well, too big for site tho & lik i say maybe not rugged enough. best of luck with your choice, the Hikoki nail gun is heavy but feels well made & i really like
@@Gidjoiner I have all Hikoki 36v gear, drills, impacts first fix and second aswell as the multitool, sds, recip and jigsaw. I do like it but that saw was a let down. I went with the dewalt 12 inch flex It’s a heavy beast but very accurate. I don’t mind the weight but I’m in my 20s so not to much a problem yet.
that splinter vid is the one vid of yours i didnt click on lol. no offence, just grosses me out that stuff. still, glad others did , means u get a new shiny toy to play with. ignore the shitty comments, altho if it all helps to buy new toys, all good 😂😁 EDIT, hang on, WOW, i just checked, that splinter vid has over a million views? wtf lol. weird innit, a splinter vid over a million views, makes u wonder what people love. maybe u need to get a few more splinters 😂😁
😂😂 I understand 👍 Yeah got a couple of new toys, i'll show the other when i buy it but YT has killed that vid, put an 18+ on it & restricted or no ads could go on, I didn't earn much because it's only 6mins, so no midroll ads, they're the ones that pay, the vid needs to be 8mins+ for those, the ad at the start most people skip so i get nothing for that & the one at the end i get next to nowt for because people don't hang around to watch that, Anyway can't complain, got a couple of toys in exchange for a splinter that wasn't the first & def won't be the last, left no scar & a vid took ½hr to edit 👍🤸♂️😂👍
The cordless version MAKITA DLS110Z only cuts 91mm so doesn't replace the bigger Dewalt which cuts 110mm & is the reason i went for that saw, I'm not carrying in n out a saw from my shed so it doesn't replace the Kapex, & that DLS110Z is 27.3kg, twice the weight of this DLS714NZ @ 13.5 kg
I delete them now but i'm looking for the splinter in the pus that comes out, pine splnters can be like hairs, hard to see, the comments vary from 'it looks like he's eating it & bet he's never washed his hands', they click on a vid with pus in the title then say they're gonna throw up at the sight of my hands, wankers, YT doesn't like swearing so i just delete instead, I'm not interested in their patheticness.
"You bought me a new saw!" 🤣😂🤣 Great to have you back, Gid.
👍👍😁🤸♂️ Thanks, hope you're well, i'll be back with more in a bit 😊👍
Ignore the idiots you’re a good joiner and inspire people 👍🏼
Thankyou Stephen, I just delete them, my way of blanking them 😁👍
Always makes me laugh when people leave comments on how useless or bad certain channels are.
Great to have you back. Nice Saw
Thanks Michael 👍 I'll be be back with more soon 😊
Good to see the finger has healed well and glad to hear you have jobs to look forward to.
Thanks Mike, yep i'm ok, bit old but finger didn't drop off 😁👍 I'll be uploading again soon, just needed to do a few things before the weather turns & the work, filming & editing begins again, I'll be back 😎👍
Great to have you back look forward to more videos
Thanks Russell 👍 Yep i'll be back 😎 keep well 😊
I have the same saw gid and I can honestly say it does just about everything for me skirting back moulds door casings it’s a really good little saw I love it 👍🏻
Good to know, seems like a nice saw & for all those sorts of things you mention it should do me fine too 👍 Thanks 👍
Welcome back Gid. I am looking forward to winter viewing on your very unique and excellent Chanel.
Thankyou Chris 👍 Yep i'll be back with more, just needed a couple of wks to sort a few things out before winter starts setting in, The work, filming & editing to come will take my time so a little calm before the storm so to spk, keep well 👍
Great to see you back looks a great saw that’s next on my list
Thanks Trevor 👍 yeah it's a nice light little saw that will cu all the sizes i need for a reg day 👍 Are you going to buy this same saw?
Good to see you back Gid, saw looks like it will be handy for you, best regards
Thanks Bill 👍 Yep, it'll cut the sizes of timber I use, only 13.5kg, that's 1kg heavier than the little Dewalt but still light enough 👍 cordless means I can get a good sq cut easily, sometimes when i'm at a house & all i have to cut is one piece i'll do it by and or with the jigsaw n a sq 😊👍
The Makita slippery slope, it will never end. Looking forward to the new vids.
I'm only at the top of that hill, I'm quite happy with Bosch 18v stuff i've got but there's stuff i didn't want in Bosch, like my little Makita router, multisaw & 9" angle grinder... there's a sml list 🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️😂 Thanks Keith, i'll be back 😎👍
Nice to see you back GID.
Thanks Ken 👍 I'll be be back soon 😊
Back on it and buying more toys 😆 good to see you back in business
Thanks Charles, yep new toys 🤸♂️🤸♂️, I've been doing a few bits for myself but a few smaller jobs here n there at others houses, the big Dewalt is too big to cut just 1 bit of wood & both Dewalts need a lead, I'll be back with more vids in a bit 👍👍
Nice bit of kit gid always handy for odd cut or two out of van and away you go. Looking forward to seeing your next project 👍
Thanks John 👍 yeah good for those few odd cuts but it does all the sizes i'd need a reg day so good all round, & yeah handy for working out of the van but also fewer annoying leads when i'm crapped in a room, 😁👍 I'll be back 😎 in a bit
Glad you’re back mate - saw looks nice and cordless is just that little bit more flexible. Take care and glad your back to two functioning hands!
Tool junkie tell me about it 😂🤸♂️ helps to have the right tools tho, I'm glad you're picking things up from my vids, that's what i make them for, sometimes it's the little tips that can make all the difference, Thanks Derek much appreciated, i'll have the rest of the alcove cupboards uploaded soon & there'll be more to come 👍
Good to see you back, missed ya
Thanks Jim 👍Yep i'll be back 😎 keep well 👍
First time to comment but I really enjoy your videos. Glad your hand is better. Looking forward to more videos coming out 😀.
Hi mate ,
Great to see you back , luv the new toy , useful bit of kit , looking forward to seeing the next video 👍👍
Thanks Lee 👍 Yep, nice little light saw, easy tool to just to whip out, I'll be back 😎
Nice one, looking forward to some more videos and learning more.
Thanks Simon, yep i'll be back in a bit & glad you learn from them, my next job is some alcoves, i've made vids on those before but every job is different so hopefully i can deliver more tips 👍👍
Good to see you back Gid. Hope your well.
Thanks David, yep i'm ok, needed to get some stuff done before winter, 👍 you too hope you're well👍
@@Gidjoiner yeah I'm good thanks.
Phill 👍👍👍
Thanks Phill, i'll have a look at the depth screw 👍 & i did read about the 5º to the right but thanks for reminding me, i had forgotten 👍 just got it but yeah seems like a nice saw, I've had a couple of Makita mitre saws in the past n they're always good for accuracy so hopefully this will live up to it's predecessors , yep i'll be back in a bit, just needed to sort a few things out before winter n the chaos of the jobs i mention start & the nights of editing that will come, keep well & all the best to you too 👍
Good to se you back Gid
Thanks Rory, got a few jobs coming up but thought i'd let you know i'm still alive 👍 Keep well yourself 👍
It’s great to see you back on here my friend keep up the good work I wish I could do the same but my ill health prevent me, been doing this same thing for 50 years , still have the interest but not the health , great to watch 👍👍
Ahh new tools. You have to love them..
Yep, 😊🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️😁👍
I was beginning to think you’d retired mate good to see you back
Thanks Baz 👍, it's only been 4wks but yeah i needed a break to get some stuff done before winter, & the jobs coming up are going to keep me busy, i'll film those but editing can take most of the night, 3,4,5-6 days of the wk depending on how many vids, so before all that begins i needed a little calm before the storm 😁
Nice to see ya again Gid !!! that Makita looks like a great little saw!!😎😎😎😎
🙋♂️😊 Thanks 👍 Yep, it'll cut most regular size pieces of wood so i think it will be my no1 saw from now on 👍
Gid...you'll love it! I've got a big Makita 240v and it's such a pain in the arse to take out for most jobs. Got myself a 714 18 months ago and it's become my most used tool after my impact driver. In fact I'm just using it on a job now. It's got a decent cut capacity and I can carry it in one hand.
That's good to hear, yeah i think it'll do me fine, the size of cut is all i'll need for reg work, & lightweight & cordless 👍👍👍 Thanks 👍😊
I opened that package today, it was a bundle wrapped in bubble wrap, I'd ignored it with the instructions 😂 I didn't fit them but the old extensions that are in the shed are the same size so i'm considering cutting them down a bit, maybe by half & then fitting them with those supports, & yes i'm going to do that, change those screws, it' a bit shit of Makita not to make those thumb screws, I've got this site bookmarked that i go to for 'stuff' or inspiration, I just need to have a look n see what thread size, M4 or 5, don't remember but don't think it was as big as M6 www.accu.co.uk/en/
www.accu.co.uk/en/894-hardware
@@Gidjoiner That looks like a useful site. I'll remember that. I was just going to bob into Bolt and Nut Supplies on the Grangefield Estate next time I'm in Pudsey. They normally have stuff like that and always really helpful.
Always waiting on a good review for this saw been in my watch list for months 😂
Thanks Aaron, yep the vids i watched on this saw were lots of talk & not much action 😕 it seems like a nice little saw , it'll cut the regular sizes of wood i'll be using 👍
@@Gidjoiner defo pal what price did ya get it at with the to battery’s if you don’t mind me asking
I got it from Screwfix £539, i could have got cheaper elsewhere but to be honest i didn't look much, Screwfix are just down the rd, pretty reliable & easy if i need to take it back etc. the batteries i got from a local hardware/tools place £74 each, i already had the charger
@@Gidjoiner that’s not a bad price at all batterys went through the roof can remember when could pick the 5ah up for 50 pun
Got two Bosch 18v 5ah the other day, £47 each, they're cheap at the mo 😁👍
Good to see you Gid
Thanks Garviel, keep well 👍
Classic Gid,
And there’s me not giving the splinter the time of day by cutting it out with nail clippers.
@@Gidjoiner dirty fingers nails….. don’t forget 40 grit hands. It’s called hard work mate.
Gid to see you back Good.... 😉😉 Nice saw, should do you nicely... Money well spent. I am still having nightmares about that splinter.
Thanks 👍 Yep seems like a nice toy n sorry about the splinter, I'm not going to make a habit of posting pussy vids 👍 unless something worthy comes along 🤣🤣
Great to see you 👍👍👍
🙋♂️😊 Thanks Elaine, hope you're well 👍
Great video Gid, thanks
Thanks Michael & you're welcome 😊👍
Great tool video. Usually it's someone rambling on about stats. Better to have a Craftsman just using it.
Nice one Gid 👍🏻
The 7 1/2' blades are scarce and costly. Can I equip this with a 7 1/4" blade?
Providing the bore is the right size you could fit a smaller one, you'd lose cutting depth so I don't know if it would then cut right through the wood, these are 20mm bore so a little rarer but I have no prob getting one at an acceptable price,
I love mine! But I keep it good, nice and light weight and runs great on 2x5.0ah, I did have to true it up out the box though
Thanks, guess i'll see how the batteries go, i don't do a huge amount of cutting anymore & when i do i'll prob set up the Dewalt 👍 I'll have more of a play with it n see but i'll prob do as you say for larger cross cuts, i've the cordless plunge saw & a GRS-16PE guide rail square that fits on my tracks, i've a short length 600mm-ish i keep just for that 👍
@@Gidjoiner perfect! The thin kerf blades just seam to have lots of movement! I’ve a thick Freud blade in mine and it’s great much better
😂👍 Great minds think alike, i've got Freud in most of mine & ordered one for this saw when i bought this saw, 20mm bore so had to order online

Thanks Graham, just took a short break to prepare a little for winter before the work n editing comes along 👍 yeah F'em, their comments just add to YT'a algorithm making my vid popular & i'm quite proud of my working hands, i'd prefer them to be the way they are than like the princesses that commented, Yep i'll be back soon, just thought i'd check in n let you know the score, Keep well 👍
Was it good to go from the box or did it require some setting up?
Hi, sorry this is late, yep pretty much, I cut down those big arms that stick out the side into a more acceptable length, I wanted this to be small light n easy to use,
@@Gidjoiner All good mate, enjoy ya vids. What's the play like when the rail is extended ? Some chap on another review video managed to cut out some of that blue plastic where the saw slides between, its made me a little apprehensive about ordering, whats the accuracy like in your view? You have an opinion I trust!
Hows this machine holding up Gid? Is it nice and accurate?
Hi, this is my no'1 saw, it's going well without any problems, Makita so it works as well as it did new & there's nothing I can pick out that I didn't mention in this vid 👍
@@Gidjoiner Thanks for the reply Gid
You’re a working man for f#@#’s sake, Nuff said. Nice new saw,, 4 chop saws, I’m jealous I’ve only got 3 😕
😁👍 Thanks Philip, I've still got the old Metabo & my old Dewalt so.. that'd be 6 😂 then there's the Makita & little Evolution metal cutting saws, can i count them in 😁
@@Gidjoiner that’s just greedy 🤣
🤸♂️🤸♂️😁
Nice mate, Christmas early
😁🤸♂️ Yep, opened it early 😊👍
Do you still use this gid
Thinking of buying this gid,how would you rate it now pal?
Hi, haven't used it much yet, I cut down the arms that attach to the sides, I wish the sliding rails didn't stick out the back, that's the nature of most of these saws tho that do the depth stop channel cutting, except the Festool but they're many £s more. apart from that I've no complaints, (there's always something to moan about, I'm sure I'll find more if i look hard enough 😉)
@@Gidjoiner thanks for the reply, yes that's the only thing putting me off are the rear rails,I've had a shot of the 40v at work but it's a bit too expensive for me just now
Arrr Yes mine is the same, blade doesn't go right back and leaves the split end on every cut.. massive design floor.
Yeah not right is it, they must have known full well when making it 😕
Are you coming back Gid🙏
Hi, had a bit of a shit few mths, just old, covid & winter, but yeah i'll be back 👍
@@Gidjoiner great news can't wait to see your videos again
"You bought me a new saw" 😂😂😂 fuckin love that 👏👏
Saw looks decent as well. Not sure about the Makita but the metabo has a grub screw adjustment to let the blade lower just that little bit extra. Might get you that last wee nick it needs to clear the cut without having to use a sacrificial fence.
😁👍 Yeah i did elaborate on that a bit more, about how they click on a vid with pus in the title then post their pathetic comments about my dirty hand n nails making them throw up, that they were just adding to YT's algorithm n making my vid more popular, but decided not to leave that in 😁 Yeah seems a nice saw & nice idea but it's the blade mount on the other side that rubs on the top of the wood stopping the blade going down,
@@Gidjoiner that's a pity. About the blade guard and the lack of rant lol
I've got an angle grinder, it only needs a few mm 😁👍
Mine doesn’t have that issue where it doesn’t cut straight through :/
Yeah that doesn't seem right but I read in the saw's PDF www.icmsmakita.eu/cms/custom/uk/user_manual/DLS714.pdf it says page 2 - '45 mm x 265 mm (NOTE 1)' , note 1 is - 'Max.
Just had to go out to the van to find that short length, couldn't remember where it was 😂😂🙃👴
Can ya not a just the depth the blade goes in the base to get that last little bit
КРУТАЯ 😎 ПИЛА 🪚✌️✊🤘
Hope your OK mate?
Hi, yeah i'm ok, bit old n cold but i'll have some vids up soon, thanks n keep well yourself 👍
@@Gidjoiner good to hear your alive buddy and think we is all feeling old and cold now with this energy bollox. Some fookers getting rich at our expense. You take care.
Nice acquisition Gid.. don’t think you’re the first to fu#k of that type of hold down clamp 👍😂😂
Thanks Mike 👍 yeah i'm surprised they still do that crap screw down option, there's better ways available. 😕👍
Hi gid found that video wireing the dust extractor 😂😂
Nice. Don't forget 6x2 is £5/6 per m now gid🤣
Thanks 👍 yeah 😂 didn't think that at the time but when editing i was wondering if it would come up, chopped up £10 worth of wood there 🤣👍
@@Gidjoiner 🤣 memories of when I got a new saw grabing random decent pieces to cut in to useless pieces.
Gid ya can sink the blade a bit more in to the cutting channel and it works fine that’s what I done with mine
Hi, the saw guard was rubbing on the wood, sinking the blade wouldn't have helped Thanks 👍
👍👍👍
👍👍😊
Come on gid wear are you missing you and your vids 😁😁👍
yeah i'll be back 😎 Thanks 👍😁
that splinter vid is the one vid of yours i didnt click on lol. no offence, just grosses me out that stuff. still, glad others did , means u get a new shiny toy to play with. ignore the shitty comments, altho if it all helps to buy new toys, all good 😂😁 EDIT, hang on, WOW, i just checked, that splinter vid has over a million views? wtf lol. weird innit, a splinter vid over a million views, makes u wonder what people love. maybe u need to get a few more splinters 😂😁
Trade in all the saws and get the makita LS1019L job done
The cordless version MAKITA DLS110Z only cuts 91mm so doesn't replace the bigger Dewalt which cuts 110mm & is the reason i went for that saw, I'm not carrying in n out a saw from my shed so it doesn't replace the Kapex, & that DLS110Z is 27.3kg, twice the weight of this DLS714NZ @ 13.5 kg
People leave you nasty comments? Lmao ridiculous, wtf about? Would love to see what you're working on.
