So sweet a tone, especially those trebles. If I were stranded on a desert island, this would be the guitar I'd want, plus a good microphone, lots of strings & picks....
It would sure be a good one to have no doubt! I agree on the strings and Picks; Palm leaves and coconut shells may make a man’s tone suffer lol. 🤣 on the other hand, they might help my sound lol.
What a velvety, smooth bass end! The trebles are nice and sweet too.
That thing sure is special!
Super rare and beautiful sounding too!
I have seen a lot of guitars in my time, but this is the first 34 Jumbo I have even been in the same room with that I can recall.
Iam Martin guy, got old Gibsons too. That’s a great guitar..
Man it sure is! I didn’t think I would ever see one of these in my lifetime.
The sound, it just... wow. Can't afford a vintage one but I wish I could at least try those Historical Reissue in Canada...
Man I sure never thought I would get to play one of these. There sure aren’t many of them around anymore. That historic reissue is supposed to be really something.
I've tried two of the OJ reissues, and I think they are the best guitar Gibson makes currently. VERY strong!
Wow Shawn, that's my sell the house (well almost) dream guitar. Fantastic playing too, as usual.
I hear you on that sir! Man, I’m getting about one of those a week these days lol.
I have never heard a guitar quite like it. Amazing.
Yes sir, it sure has a big sound, and a unique voice.
That's the best sounding Gibson I've heard. My second favorite being the 1972 Gibson Blueridge Custom and the only one that comes close to the sound of this one.
It sure is something man. I would bet I will never get to play another one like this.
The guitar sounds great!
Thank you very much my friend! Yes, it is mahogany back and sides, and would most likely be Adirondack spruce.
Very nice playing to demonstrate this guitar.
clarity but no amount of dynamic range loss. Just dig in and enjoy from dry to lush. "Nothing replaces the Age" I'll remember that.
Man I just wish I got better as I got older lol
Man this guitar makes me smile.
You never cease to amaze me brother! This is a once in a lifetime guitar and you got to savor it!
I sure am lucky man. It comes at a cost sometimes lol. Nevertheless, it is sure something to think about all of the guitars that have come through here. I sure appreciate you watching my brother.
It doesn't sound like a comparable D-18 but it's so good in it's own way. That old timey song you play between 6:00 - 6:30 is just sublime and lovely, and the same is true of the melodic country stuff you were playing. I don't think it's a bluegrass guitar but it's definitely a guitar that needs medium strings and a flatpick to live up to its potential.
Right! Totally different sound than Martin. Gibsons generally record pretty nice, I guess that is why the J-45 is said to be the most recorded guitar in history.
Wonderful demo, Shawn. I have a historc reissue of this model and it's one of my favorites. An original would be a dream though.
Do you like your historical re-issue? Everyone that I know who has owned one, has absolutely raved about it! At first, I thought that was what Garrick was sending me, after I figured out it was a actual 34, well, I just didn’t know what to think about that lol.
@@ShawnBrockMusic I absolutely love it. It has restored my faith in Gibson acoustics. Listening to your comments about the neck, I wonder how close they got with the reissue. It has a neck shape to die for... chunky with a slight V but not uncomfortable. It just sits really well in your hands. As you put 12s on this one, I just have to mention the Martin Titanium 12s that absolutely lift this guitar to a different level for me. Nickel Bronze D'addario's work equally as well. Thanks again for all the outstanding playing and the demos. You've become an incredible tone resource of late. :)
@@markus.seiler Man I sure always appreciate hearing from you guys, it helps me keep up with things going on, and I enjoy it very much. I would bet they got pretty close on the neck, because what you are describing is what I am feeling. Very nice indeed.
Always a pleasure listening to you play and describe the guitars you have in hand
I sure appreciate you watching Chris; man it has been a big run here lately!
i wonder is there a musical history behind that guitar,it sounds amazing .
Man I bet there is, and I only wish I knew it. The story something like this could tell…
I’ve never been much of a Gibson guy until I played a Gibson Advanced Jumbo. They were long scale and rosewood. Blew my dang socks off! And it was a reissue. I can’t even imagine playing a old one. That sucker was always the loudest guitar in the room. So light and resonant it was unbelievable.
I have a love-hate relationship with them, I either really like them a bunch, or don’t like them at all. I know what you mean, those made some great Guitars!
I had a Gibson G45 Studio for a couple years, only around $850 at the time, but I liked it, not the best for gospel/bluegreass style, so I sold it. Gibsons are great for like, modern folk/americana too. This guitars sound has a trampled by turtles vibe to the sound somehow, but he plays a Martin lol. God bless.
This sound is so amazing and recognize able it has got Gibson through decades of bad decisions.
Lol I love the way you put that man! 😂
So this Gibson 1934 Jumbo guitar is awesome! Big Thanks
Man that thing is absolutely wonderful! I sure enjoyed playing it very much
Love your style and version of “look away, Dixieland”, beautiful. Great sounding guitar, be nice if Gibson can achieve this with the re-issue.
wow what a huge, dry, resonant sound Shawn..One of the best sounding early Gibby's I have heard. Great bottom end/balance. Sound is reminisent of an early pre war D18 but maybe a little dryer. BC42 pick again? I wonder what the weight is on this.. I would bet it is under 4 lbs
Always the BC 42. It is feather light man!
Stunning guitar! Hey any chance you could teach your version of Tennessee Waltz?
Hey Tom! Sure, I will put that on the list and be glad to do it.
hey Tom 👋 your ‘44 will be just as sweet.
@@garrickwynne that 44 is definitely on my shortest list of most favorite that have come through here. I still think about it quite often.
If you’re ever down under make sure to stop by. You can definitely have another play!
@@guitarwithtom6041 Man I will hold you to that for sure!
What kind of mics are you using? They really capture the full spectrum of what a guitar has to offer!!!!!!! You spoke of you & Mike in your algebra class. I loved algebra so much I took it 3 times!!!!!!! LOL
Lol, got to absolutely love that algebra. I use the Neumann KM184 for everything on Guitar these days. I figure if people could afford these guitars, they could also afford the microphones easily lol.
pretty special bro!
Brother you are correct about that! It was an unusual opportunity to get to play one of these.
Is this guitar a mahogany back and sides? Does it have an Adirondack top?
What is the top wood on this guitar?
serious money shawn ?
Hi, I’m the seller. $17k, which is pretty good given Norman’s Rare Guitars just listed one for close for $49k! The refinish makes it that much more achievable.
Does this guitar have a "baseball bat" neck profile?
