DAY ONE:
Fernandina Beach to Lake City. It was a long day of riding. The Osceola national forest was overall real dry considering the hurricane had just come through. But by the time we reached the western edge, the water levels started to rise. In addition to this the maintenance to all of the creek crossings did not look like they had been done yet. Eventually the water holes became too long, too deep, and too wide. We had to turn around and backtrack at one point to get out of the western side.
We came to an area with a large mound that looked like a good thumbnail opportunity… Clay had to spot me on a big dirt mound, that had a deep washout next to my back passenger tire that I did not see. I almost roll into a pond. We met some folks out at an old forestry tower. They were locals who had some cool stories to tell about the tower.

We normally trudge on through, but it was the first day and a lot of miles to cover.
We live within walking distance from Osceola and are out there all the time and the tire tracks you saw were probably mine haha! Ian only brought us wind so it’s been drying up a bit lately
They were fresh looking.
A little trick, but not a rock solid one, for checking for washouts in water, without walking thru it with a stick. Carry along some cordage with a good size rounded sinker to throw across water holes and drag back to you. You will have to throw it several times in different locations, to "feel" for holes or a complete washout, but it gives you an idea without having to get wet first..
To add, if you have a measurement of the deepest you are willing to drive thru, and put a small cork on the line above the sinker at that deepest measurement, (big enough to float with line, but small enough for the sinker to pull under), you know if it goes under, you don't want to go thru it..
I carry a pocket fisherman and that would be a great use for it... other then fishing.
Reynolds Bridge has commonly been used as a route for 18 wheelers and farmers avoiding Florida Dept of Ag and DOT check points. So imagine 18 wheelers barreling across that thing. Last I drove across, it was quite shaky.
What’s the weight limit? It would be interesting to get in the area and see what’s going on down under.
I’ve never seen a weight limit listed. I know a farmer that has farms on both sides of the river and he grows hay in Georgia but has horses and hay barns in Florida. The Dept of Agriculture hassles him every time he crosses so he bypasses them on this bridge. I have seen several log trucks and some cement trucks cross it.

I do love the rolling hills of the panhandle. Day two will have some footage from Wakulla.
Great video, the clear pond you walked up to is spring fed and is a frequent swim spot for locals. If you wanted to access Ocean pond, there is another trail just north of the main entrance that takes you to Hog Pen Landing and there is a boat ramp with dry camping open year round.
