I saw Jim Clark and Graham Hill, both in works Cortinas have an absolute ding-dong of a battle, leading the field by about half a minute after 12 laps. This was Oulton Park, about 1967. They were there for a F3000 race later, but had joined in this touring car race as a crowd pleaser. They were about 3 or more seconds a lap faster than the rest of the field. Clark led most of the way but Hill was snapping at his heels and they took it in turns to put in the fastest lap, both breaking the existing touring car record by big margins. They came out of Old Hall corner on the last lap, Clark moved over and they crossed the line side by side. Those were the days!
I bought a Lotus Cortina on my 30th birthday in 1973 for $300. It was a mess but I had a wonderful time bringing it back to life. It was a great car to drive and a wonderful "sleeper". I blew off a 63 Porsche Carerra 2 in a spontaneous drag race. Great fun. One of many cars I bought cheap and sold cheap, never knowing what prices would do. Don't ask what I sold the Porsche Speedster for.
To all the peanuts that follow the v8 supercars, this was what it used to be like in the touring car series,it was exciting to watch and you saw everyday cars that everyday people drove, bring back the touring cars,i just love the historic racing.
My MK1 Cortina could smoke my old man's 302 fairlane into town, he absolutely hated it. No matter how he tried, and as l would frequently remind him, mine was a faster car. Then made the best mistake of my life, I bought a 1975 RX2. A mistake because I sold one of the best cars I ever owned, and the best mistake, for one of the best cars I've ever owned. That certainly was, by, by daddy.
Terrific racing, just shows how determined ‘pester power’ coupled with superb driving in a Mk1 Lotus Cortina can secure the dream result!

What an entertaining race. Superb classic saloons. Brilliant drivers. The MK1 Lotus Cortina would frequently punch above it's weight.

Had a standard Cortina, lowered, noisy exhaust and a stripe down the middle, every thing you need to believe you in a rocket.
Agreed. I wish they would televise historic vintage races like this here in the States.
Amazing cars, so much more character than anything made today!
A Lotus Cortina. Would I want one? I'd walk a mile on broken glass in my bare feet simply to lick the dead flies off the bonnet edge.
I have very fond memories of Mk1 Lotus Cortinas, used to see an ex Jim Clark one on my way to school, great cars to drive too.....
Welch ein großartiges Rennen👍Lotus Cortina💪🤩👍Respekt☝
Please tell me why some get a semi about v8 cars?
The Lotus Cortina shows how much more complete a car like that is
Because purely simple engineering oodles of torque and power can move plenty of weight to I happen to like them all
What a fun video to watch. This definitely gives me something to aspire to!
