    I own(lease) a 2021 Tacoma SR5 double cab 4x4. I agree it is lacking refinement, however in SR5 trim with the standard all season tires I feel it handles well for a truck on pavement. I also consistently get 23-24 mpg on trips. I also have no issues with the brakes. They work smoothly and do a good job of stopping the truck. (I’ve had a few emergency stops for deer crossing the road.) I am not a fan of the short floor to ceiling cab however. It’s not my favorite driving position for sure. Overall the Tacoma is a highly capably truck with good fuel economy, many standard safety features, as well as some luxury amenities like dual zone climate, WiFi, and apple car play and android auto. They also come standard with a towing package. When you compare what you get with the Ranger or Colorado/Canyon twins I can see why they are still the best seller even with their short comings. The decision maker for me was resale value which makes the Tacoma’s lease payments much cheaper than the competition and Toyota gives you 2 years of free maintenance so you don’t even pay for an oil change until your 3rd year!

      @@fathermush7404 it’s the 3.5 V6. Those trips in full disclosure are 30-50 mile trips in a rural area. So no stop lights and 60-65MPH speed limits. I’m happy with the MPGs I’m getting.

    One thing I find strange is that so many of these car review channels seems surprised that people don't care about on-road refinement. It does nothing for me, and I stand with a lot of people. I couldn't really care less, and there are many of us. Literally every off-roadable vehicle review seems to start with a shocked reviewer surprised that people like it despite its rough interior/handling/infotainment. But it's not a "despite", it's partly a "because", and I think the reviewers miss that somehow.

  • @KayBertoss

    Yes, this guy is fairly accurate in his review. However, despite some of those minor issues this is what I wanted for a daily commuter and weekend get away'er for exploring and getting to our cabin. I love my new Tacoma. Yes, this truck also has a cult following thanks to Toyota's QDR. I had a brand new 1992 Toyota V6 4X4 5spd Extra-Cab Truck and loved it for 14 years. Basic maintenance for those years. Wife & I explored everywhere with it. With 2 kids now, driving and outgrowing our 2003 Nissan Pathfinder we had for 15 years I needed another truck. Considered a new roomy F-150 Eco-boost but reliability scared me away. I was finally able to afford another Toyota Truck just recently. So I bought a 2020 TRD Sport DCLB 4X4 AT and love it. The TRD sport tuned suspension combined with a long box is a little more forgiving in the city.

    I am new to Tacoma truck as I just ordered 2021 TRD Off road. Unfortunately I could not test drive before buying Tacoma due truck shortage and pandemic time but I happy to accept the risk with Toyota brand. I had Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and I have BMW 5 series so I know what to expect as far as ride comfort. In my opinion, driving Tacoma or any truck, you can’t expect the same driving comfort with as in family sedan. Once I have my the Tacoma, I will get rid of BMW and will use this Tacoma as my daily city drive. This is a body on frame. So it should feel like riding a truck. I do see what you mean about rear seat legs room but that is not going to be used much for me anyway. I hardly ever have anyone in the backseat of all my cars. Maybe 2-3 times per year so this Tacoma truck would be the same.. no rear passenger except for rare occasion. Most of pickup truck have tight rear back seats unless you are in F150 which is too big for my daily driver .. just to be able to use rear seats 2-3 times per year. It is small risk for me but thanks for pointing that out. Gas consumption .. well this is a truck and it is not a Toyota Corolla.
    Rear drum brake ? That is strange for modern cars or truck to have rear drum brake.

    I disagree, its a great daily driver and with the trd fox shocks its well suited to drive on the pavement especially where there are potholes. Quality build throughout the truck and easy to maneuver in tight spots. The exhaust is not that loud on the highway and the cabin noise is minimal. Its a truck so it rides like a truck and the suspension is firm as expected. You can't go wrong with a Taco and you won't regret buying one.

    Did someone tell this reviewer that this is a TRUCK? Why is he asking for onroad refinement?
    Let me tell you why it sells:
    Reliability. For 40,000 approximately, you get a vehicle that can go 300,000 miles. Compare that to Chevy Colorado and transmission problems or Ranger and turbo four cylinder.
    This is a truck for people that love trucks. It looks great. Can go anywhere. And high cab floor which makes for admittedly strange sitting position gives it unparalleled off road capability.
    This fat reviewer will be happier in a poser truck, you know like a Honda Ridgeline. I bet he would appreciate its refined on road dynamics.

  • @mikelemire1955
    @mikelemire1955 Год назад

    He's definitely not a Tacoma fan; Is he buying a utilitarian super reliable truck or is he buying a posh hearse? He seems to forget what a truck is intended for... not speed on the road but to get things done, reliably and value for the money. More gizmos, more things to break. Give me an SR5 trim any day; wanna do some offroading? get a lift kit as a mod and off you go. A truck is a truck. period.

    I own this truck and this guy is spot on for all the gripes. I still love the truck though it is just bad ass. I tried to find a better truck for 75k and for my needs this truck is still the best. The Honda Ridgeline beats this truck in every metric but it just does not have the soul. I owned both the 2019 and 2020 Ridgeline and traded it in for the Tacoma. Realistically the Ridgeline should be the king of the midsize trucks but it just looks bland.

    • @chooseymomschoose

      The Honda Ridgeline beats this truck. Period. Unless you are mudding or rock crawling on a regular basis, the Tacoma is trash. Ugly, thirsty, cramped, bouncy, and weak in the springs. Need to tow more than 5,000 lbs? Don’t trust this thing to do it. Get a big truck. I’m tired of people grading this dinosaur on a curve, “cuz itsa reel truhk!”

Most people who buy these pick-up trucks do so just to show off and usually only drive it to work or the grocery store, not for off-roading or towing. For these people, a Corolla would a far better choice than a Tacoma.
