In fact, they had the first "system" because they realized the potential model railways could have. They were like doll houses, you got a starter set and you expanded by buying accesories for the set. (buildings, stations, switches, more trains, etc.)
Checked out the company that makes these trains and about had a cow. How about $2,000 for a locomotive?! Wish they or some other company (like Trumpeteer) would produce a model kit like the did with the WW 2 German stuff.

The manufacturers in China and Korea built US locomotives, which are sold by US importers like Key, Overland, PSC.....
