I actually saw a drummer in Paris in the early 80’s He was busking, I chatted with him because I noticed the little kit and yes it was also a 12 inch bass drum , he was from Wales. We stayed in contact, his name is Steve Hubback, he makes cymbals. Watching your video reminded me of this meeting many years ago. Your kit sounds great and I like your playing, Thank you, 🙏
There's at least one child-size drum kit that has a 12" bass drum, and it has the usual hoops and claws that would help with aesthetics, if one wants that type of hoop. Nice execution!
Dom thanks for the life changing video. I had a Gretsch Catalina 12" tom laying around when I found this video and decided to go for it. I'm using the felted Reso 7 / Onyx combo but it also sounds great with an open sustaining configuration which is like a mini 12" 808.
We listening to the same drum??? Sounds awesome but nothing like my 16" Safari and 18" BD can sound like cannons but this 12" will never rumble but I want 1 now!
I'd probably say something that has a lot of plys! This drum kit I have to keep the tension quite loose to get it down to a "low enough" tone. If anything I just think a head with more layers will last longer.
I play a Ludwig jr kit that I modified the 16” kick drum on to handle a full size pedal( longer legs and riser). I stripped the wraps off and sanded it then stained the whole kit a aquamarine stain and polyurethaned it.
I made a 14X12...My ''Jazz'' kit has a 16X16....My Yamaha kit is a !8X16..former floor tom....Lifted all of them...Dixxson lift on the 18......Love small BD.....
@@DomPalombiMusic cool! Thank You. I just watched a Demonic Sweaters video with the Tama club jam and his 14" BD sounded on point with a old school Evans hydraulic head on it.
@@Fabian_drop02 true, the daxdad is 12'' diameter with a 22'' depth for extra lows. It was released in the late 90's and invented by Russ Miller. Thisone has more attack due to the shallow size which can be very handy too. I had a 12x9 Oak tom as a kick for a gig years ago.
I've got an unused 13" tom, I'm thinking about doing a bass drum with it. What's the size of your snare here ? Do you think a 14" snare would sound good with a small bass ?
Can you expand on the piccolo? Details... heads. I once owed a pic. with an internal muffler which I preferred over a current pearl maple that rings and rings and rings
Not sure how hard you've stomped on that thing at a gig, but how have those little hoop clamps held up? Do they ever get loose throughout the course of a gig? Also, do they leave any "bite" marks on the hoop? Very cool video, man. 👍🏼
Thanks for the kind words. As of right now, things have been really solid actually. The Clamps have held up really well after about a year of using this setup! Perhaps when digging into the drum, the legs might turn a bit if you're smashing it too hard. But in all honesty it's very easy to manage volume with this.
Very Low Tuning, tbh it's minimal wrinkles on both heads, and there's felt strips on the insides of both heads! Evans Onyx as Batter, Evans Reso 13 for front.
Pretty much the heads are the lowest they can go, and there's 2 pieces of felt along the inside of each head that muffles it quite a bit, it's more effective rather than putting a small pillow in there.
Shall I post another video of this drum kit? Mic it up and show ya what it could sound like??
Yes please, sir!
yea dude
yes
Definitely
Absolutely!

@@jarrahdrum Thanks for the kind words, and the cool story, I’m glad you enjoyed this video!
Im play small sets for about 20 years ( have a 18 , 16 and 14 " Bass Drums ), but never a 12" ... is a beautyfull Work , and ..sound great !
Glad you dig it, I'm gonna post more with this drum soon!
this looks like a fantastic busking setup
It really works! Just don’t bring too much hardware 😂

Thank you my friend! This was a fun project tbh, I need to continue this kind of series haha

Eyy glad it worked for you! Yeah this combo really has made my gigging life so much easier!
You made its sound like a 16 or an 18, that's insane man, I hope it works well for you
Dude appreciate it! It really does do the trick :D

THANK YOU! Im looking for a tiny set with a small bass drum and this is perfect.
Thanks for watching, glad I could help!
Awesome. You have just answered so many questions that I was looking to know regarding building a space saving bass drum. Many thanks for this video
No prob, glad I could be of assistance!!!
Thanks so much. Exactly the trick I was looking for.
Nice Clyde Stubblefield. Thanks. Making a 13" now
I wanna see someone make a bass drum out of dan mayos coffee mug of a tom
Nice bass & drum
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
I want one! Nice playing too!
Thank you mang, much appreciated!!!
Elvin played a 16, right? nice project!
I believe so, and even that is not as tiny as this! 😂 Thanks for watching!
small kicks are super underrated. I got a 20x10 and that thing has some serious punch, low-end and projection
I'm definitely curious to see what that looks/sounds like! Small kicks do have a different vibe to it, that's for sure!
@@DomPalombiMusic I’m playing that bad boy in my recent vids if you wanna check it out man, and couldn’t agree more 🔥
Great !
Thanks a bunch, glad you enjoyed this!
Interesting!
Been thinking about using a old snare to make a kid-size marching base drum. Wonder which head would work best?
I'd probably say something that has a lot of plys! This drum kit I have to keep the tension quite loose to get it down to a "low enough" tone. If anything I just think a head with more layers will last longer.
My dream kit is:
This kick drum with double pedal
A piccolo snare
A giant china
And with that just to play infinite absurd breakdowns
Fricken do it haha, that would be absurd indeed!!!
Great idea! I might do something like that one day and add an electronic trigger to use it along with my E-drum set.
I play a Ludwig jr kit that I modified the 16” kick drum on to handle a full size pedal( longer legs and riser). I stripped the wraps off and sanded it then stained the whole kit a aquamarine stain and polyurethaned it.
Would love to see a picture of that!

Wouldn’t have believed it!!!
Tbh it's been the best thing ever!
The Bass Drum riser is a lot of money. Hoping there is a solid alternative for half the price.
I'll do some looking around to see if there's other options out there, planning on making an update video to this kit soon!

Steve jordan passed by, saw your world first 12 bass drum and start laughing
I totes get it if he would laugh, he used a 14" kick man!
try DAXDAD on google
@@DomPalombiMusic he used a 12 x 22 yamaha DAXDAD.

decent DnB Kick! I like!
Dude it's perfect for DnB stuff, it's more a punch than a heartbeat!
Hi, whats this special white dot. How can I remplace it if I cant get the same one. Greatings from Perú.
bros bass drum is smaller than my current snare lmao. this is super awesome.
Haha it's a fun little thing to play on that's for sure!

I've got a 13" piccolo snare w a 15" bass drum and it sounds great.
Can you expand on the piccolo?
Details... heads. I once owed a pic. with an internal muffler which I preferred over a current pearl maple that rings and rings and rings
It's a 12x4 Aluminum Tama Snare!
So tight wooooo
Glad you dig it! I love how tight this kit sounds.
Interesting...it's possible to play with this in appartement ? The volume is most moderate than a 16 or 18 bass drum ?
It is! But again, with acoustic drums, that's always a challenge in itself to make sure things aren't too loud. Unless you go the mesh head route.
I use a 12, 14, or 16 bass drum for street or cafe gigs. 😊
I feel as smaller bass drums are getting more mainstream nowadays, would love to see the setup you have!

Where I can get the food of bass drum like this...and who is name product...thanks for answer.
Amazing video!!
which hats are you using?
Thanks for watching! Currently just 2 10" Splashes at hi-hats haha
What’s the tuning you used? Also what are we looking at for muffling.
Very Low Tuning, tbh it's minimal wrinkles on both heads, and there's felt strips on the insides of both heads! Evans Onyx as Batter, Evans Reso 13 for front.
I dont understand why it sounds so good
I think that's a matter of your brain likes what it hears, and it was unexpected! Glad you like it either way!
Tuning.
Niiiccceeeee!!!!!

Hi Dom, what hoops did you get to replace the ones?
Just normal 6 Lug 12" diameter hoops, also from DFD (Drum Factory Direct)!

What are the hats you're using sir?
Combo of 10" splash cymbals in this one, but I do own a pair of 10" Sabian XSR Mini Hihats
@@DomPalombiMusic copy thanks
how much buy the jungle kit adapter?
There's a link in the description, I think it was at least 80-100? It wasn't cheap sadly
Could I know which snare you are using in the video?
Yeah you can! It's a Tama 3.5 x 12 Inch Piccolo Steel Snare Drum
@@DomPalombiMusic Thank you very much for sharing the information. I ordered a hoop clamp a few days ago thanks to the video.😘
@@RLLRLRRl_ No prob!
I’m planning on attempting to turn a 13 inch piccolo snare into a little bass drum like this. Any one ever tried turning a snare into a bass drum?
Interestingly enough, you can use the same clamps to almost any drum tbh, so yes a snare drum is very possible!
I'm gonna speak as a noobie, but I never thought on how small a drum set could be
Apparently it can be pretty small haha
What size kick drum?
Cool. Now make a 8 inch bass drum….
Noted. I'll see what I can do...
Are related to Phil Palombi?
Actually yes! We're cousins, don't know if it's distant or not, but I've met Phil and we've had a couple chances to play together!
From what size to what, and what brand?
Lido Supreme 12"x8" Tom!
@@DomPalombiMusic it's any brand still delicious with that size?
Some parts out of stock...
Sorry about that, that's out of my control! I'll try to find some other resources with links.
