    we dont got tench in America. That's why I watch this show. Related to carp? I think the closest thing we got is a sheepshead or freshwater drum. Different color. That was a nice little carp too.

    Great vid Graeme tench are great fighters even when I carp fish I don't mind a tench at all. Being An allrounder I cast resist early start for tench before I'm fishing for other species. Even on my lakes when dropshotting I've always got a rod or two out for carp and tench obviously I'm dropshotting next to my set up. Also what a beautiful place that fishery is, wish I lived on its doorstep 👍🎣👌

    You say they are a lake fish, but every summer at the weekends I fish, I catch up to a dozen at 4/5 am on the Isis/Thames after a nights bagging 'slabs' The Tench never go bigger than about 4lb but are always in beautiful condition. At full light they disappear I've never caught one in the daytime. Great video thanks...

    We have tench in some southern waters in Australia but not targeted deliberately and usually by-catch when fishing for perch,trout. I have consumed them but far better freshwater fish to eat here but ate one from dirty water that tasted fantastic but others from clean water were yuk! Fight well and have seen them up to around the 10 pound mark but my best would have been 7 to 8lb.

    Just wondered if you/how you baited the area just before night/during the night i.e. Put 10 casts out in quick sucession to get some bait in the water or did you just cast your g/bait feeder as and when you needed to & only the feeder bait was your 'free offerings/attraction'? Looking to do out 1st night session and wondered how best to bait up an area ready for after dark hours.Thank you

      Never tried them but if you get any of their slime on your mouth it is disgusting. Mind you it was also called the "Doctor Fish" as the slime was believed to cure skin conditions. I have never heard of anyone trying to eat one...it certainly won't be me !! They are far more valuable being returned to the water.

      Here in Tasmania Tench were introduced by early settlers in the 1800's. I grew up catching them and it was generally accepted that they were not a good table fish and we used to boil them up for the pigs. We also have a plague of Red fin (Perch) bought in at the same time, they are such a pest you're not allowed to throw them back and they have ruined many of our wild trout fisheries

      Coop W The Tench is one of the most coveted traditional species of the UK...Eat them !!! No, thank goodness they must be disgusting to eat,otherwise certain segments of the human population probably would kill them and we would have nothing left.There are fewer places to enjoy good Tench fishing than when I was knee high to a grasshopper,so it was a real pleasure to find a water where they are still abundant.Great scrappers,well worth catching. I was grateful for the chance to record them on this film.

So if anyone has any good rigs or some way of tough them up abit so they last a bit longer in the water please it will safe me a lot of cash thanks

      If you've gutted them and everything throw them on the ground hard just before you put them onto the hook they tense up and don't break when hitting the water.

    Hi Graham. I just want to make something very clear to some of your viewers.We Do Not! Eat these fish in UK ! If caught catching them for food, you will be arrested and prosecuted ! The Police are working very close with the EA. You want fish to eat ? Buy it from supermarket ! We fish for pleasure in UK. Sick and tired of poachers!!!.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  5 лет назад

      We do get quite a few comments asking if we can eat this or that fish. 30 years ago it wouldn't have even been asked.I feel its a sign of the times . I was told by a Wye regular he had seen people barbecuing a small Barbel !! All I can say is one day all our 700 films will probably become archive material showing that at one time we did have some decent fishing...I'm just pleased I am out there trying to film as much as possible . I even saw Salmon(farmed) being discounted to 6 pounds for about a 4lb fish in our supermarket today...that's cheaper than a day ticket so as you say its deffo cheaper to go to a supermarket if you want fish to eat.

  • @justin-db7hw
    @justin-db7hw 9 лет назад

    Do they even have decent public ponds in england? Is it nearly all private? Or do you like shooting farmed fish in a barrel?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  9 лет назад +8

      justin van Mostly day ticket waters or private.Not too many available to the public which is a shame. The Tench are not actually farmed,they are wild,hatched from eggs etc.As for the "barrel".Its 22 acres in size,which I guess is not too small.You should try it sometime .Not always that easy. I have fished Lake Victoria in Africa ,which might be a big enough barrel for you ??
