  • If you've seen my latest completed project (the goblet), then there was a small part of it I wasn't wholly happy about, so I took to the shop this cold morning, and taking the risk of ruining the goblet, I gave it a little upgrade. Gone is the nipple which was there since I wasn't sure the arms of the stems will be solid enough to support the weight of the cup. Now that I know they could, the goblet takes its final form. I also show off a few presents and a couple of new stickers for my wall!!

    As someone who is a fanatical turner, you are the only person I know who can make a goblet which is the finest I've ever seen and then improve upon it.

    Pursuit of perfection as always Yuval. Big thumbs up for the acorn boxes 👍🏻. Great idea/gift. Still waiting for the “Beast of the East” snow here in the West U.K. Had a couple of light sprinklings but not enough to settle. Stay warm my friend.

    Hi Yuval! Very nice update to a beautiful goblet. It looks even better my friend! You gave me a scare when the cup got away from the jam chuck, good idea to bring the live center a that point, ufff! I am glad you were able to remove the knob without further issues. Cheers! Daniel

    if you want to improve it even more you can make a holding place in the bottom of the dark wood part, insert a circuit with diode and make it glow in the dark :) mixing modern technology with beautiful wooden craftsmanship

    Yuval, I like the improvement, but I also liked the goblet the way it was originally turned. You are the turner that turned it though, so it has to suit you. I enjoy watching all of our videos, even the ones where improvements aren't necessary.lol You are amaster turner in my eyes, I learn a lot from watching your videos. For that, I honestly want to thank you. I watch closely for a notification of a new video from you, it makes my day when there is one. I can never get away with just watching it once, I usually check it out two or three times. That's how much I love watching you turn, you have such a light touch with the gouges. And now that I've watched the video the second time, I agree it does look better with the improvement. I guess that just goes to prove, you do have a much better eye then me. Take care Buddy, and please keep on turning.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  6 лет назад

      Thank you Len!! You do have to rememeber that the original form of the cup was more of a necessity, in case the arms would flax and the cup section will need support. In reality I should have removed the extra part in the original video, but I have to admit it was freezing in my shop and I ran out of firewood, so I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible!! :) We should be scared to change something even if we grew accustomed to it, if we believe it will make it better.

    I too was hoping that you would keep the little cone pendant -- but it does look better without the nipple. Popped over to Wayne's channel too and left an admiring comment on the Matryoshka boxes. Dang it, Yuval -- I'm going to have to titer down my coffee consumption and give some of these miniatures a try :-) Clyde

    As you mentioned, I didn't think you needed to change anything. I stand corrected...a big improvement. You clearly have a good eye for woodturning art. Well done Yuval.
    Are you responsible for this miniature trend of late? I see there are several who have jumped on board. Unfortunately I lack the sharp eyesight and steady hand that is required, but I love to watch.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  6 лет назад

      Thank you Gil!! I wasn't happy with the stub when I first did it, I thought it would necessary, once it clean it isn't, it had to go, I just couldn't leave it there, where I felt it didn't belong. I'm not responsible for the miniature trend, it was Steven Twydell who started a challenge in one of the facebook groups, but I sure was the loudest, and dare I say, one of the smallest :)

    If you want to add some strength to your goblet without taking away from its look you could put some clear resin in the open spaces to reinforce the whole goblet overall.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  6 лет назад

      Yeah, that might work, but it will feel a little like cheating... :) Thanks for the advice Adrian!!

      @adrianhuizar1897 6 лет назад +1

      Yuval Lahav Woodturning
      Cheating how? You've already done all the work to shape it. If anything it could be harder to properly get the resin in to the space between the cup and the stem.

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  6 лет назад +1

      Cheating in it won't be an integral part of the wood itself. That was a small joke, since I really don't have any problems using resin in my work, when it is needed. I just feel that this project, part of the appeal is the fact it is so delicate.

    Yuval after watching you turn that amazing piece, I just can't understand why that little nub bothered you so much! It's beautiful either way! Just the way you intended. Many blessings Yuval! I truly hope many people will help you with your next project. By the way, I think you would have had plenty of room to put all three wonderful goblets in those little boxes! Those were absolutely beautiful! The boxes were brilliant!

      Thank you Tracy! You are too kind for words!! I hope so as well, as I could really use a break from my day job... spiritual and physical :) It bothered me because I made it out of necessity and not out of pure design, once I realized it wasn't assential, I just had to take it down the original design I had in mind, which is what it has become. The mind of the creator is mess, you know... :) All three goblets can be places in the medium box with plenty of room to spare :)
