    I had a story to share. I was looking for a 2nd gen Cummins powered pickup. I found one on Ebay. Nice looking truck. 1996 3500 dually, 2 wd. Starting bid, $8k. I thought, what the heck? I was the first & only bidder! He didn't ask for a deposit. I told him I'd bring cash. I drove 3 states to get it & it was legit! I turned in my rental car & drove this beauty back home without issues! This was 2 years ago. I've still got it & I won't be letting it go any time soon! So there are deals out there by legitimate folks. Love your Cummins! 👍 Just wanted to share. Take care!

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  2 месяца назад +4

      There is no question there are legit deals out there on the internet. And I would argue that eBay is one of the best places to find them, because the seller has to pay money to list it there. Also, two years ago, I was trying to sell a 2000 Ram 2500 Cummins automatic 4x4. Mostly great looking truck with high miles. I couldn’t get $9000 for that one and ended up trading it, because those trucks were absolutely in the toilet due to insane diesel prices at that time. And this wasn’t long after paying $14,000 for my third gen… I think you got a good deal! But it doesn’t surprise me.

    I had a very nice older Sea Ray cruiser for sale and I was contacted by a potential buyer in New Orleans. He has relatives in the Louisville Kentucky area where I live and he asked if he could send his cousin over to see the boat. I said sure and his cousin came over and basically kicked tires and admitted he knew nothing about boats. I just told him that I knew he was here to make sure I wasn’t a scammer and he laughed and said that yes - that’s exactly why he was here. Anyway, I did sell the boat to his cousin so happy ending all around.

No deposit needed, just bring certified check and trailer or helmet. Buddy of mine when up to get it. WAs priced way. way to cheap, so wanted to be ready for anything. What did I get, exactly what was advertised for half of what it is worth, because the dude needed the money... Felt guilty, until he started asking about BMW GS motorcycles... These cars, and others from the classic muscle car era attract a lot of non “car people” - that’s the level of love people have for this era of vehicles. They are the ones who are most likely to get scammed. I tell them to get something more modern, from a Carvana, that has a warranty, return policy, can be serviced by a mechanic or dealership, and will be more reliable and generally a better car. And nope one ever listens. If you know what you’re doing, and you enjoy wrenching and fixing and inspecting and tweaking and truly love old cars, great. But for the average person, who just wants to have something nice to drive once in a while, the new stuff is better.
    OK I have to get out in the rain and drop my gas tank to fix a leak now…

    The mopar collector car and muscle car world is a crazy place. People work extra hard to set thier car apart from the rest by boiling down the components to the smallest of details to demonstrate how rare the car is. A common car with an uncommon assortment of colours and options suddenly becomes a 1 or only 30 made, a green sattelite with red interior and optional gegaws like a cigarette lighter or something like a badge on the dash makes it a rare car. Sorry, not in my world. It’s the same mopar world that works so hard to scam potential buyers into purchasing faked cars. It’s sad but in a way the inflated prices, fake kookery scam cars and uneducated eager buyers wanting to get in on the action deserve each other.
    Im happy to say my Ford world isnt this way,
    Ya right!

      Mopars are ridiculous in that regard, but most any of those mid '60s-early '70s muscle cars can get caught up in that. I happen to know of a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440 4-speed for sale by a project car dealer. No engine or trans, holes in the frame, no floors, no front panels or trunk lid, no glass, interior is pretty much unsalvageable, and it looks like a tree might have fallen on it at one time or another. It can be your for only $25,000! That's the most ridiculous listing on their site, but even the Fords and Chevies are way out of reach for the condition they're in. And that, my friends, is why I got turned off to that era of muscle cars.

    I actually bought my dart thru an eBay ad in 2021. I think I got lucky based on what you said.
    I’d never have sent a deposit though, so if that’s the game, my common sense would have protected me. I was only interested because he was fairly close by. I just went, met the guy…and saw the car. I paid him when I went back to get it. He was a very nice guy, and even thru in an extra slant six engine he had removed from his Scamp.
    There really are legit sellers out there, but I probably would not do it again. Times have gotten weirder since then.
    Thank you for this video though. It’s excellent public service education.
    😊👍👍

    That car is for sale on FB in PA for $ 30k. Another scam is a real dealership will be used as a front unbeknownst to that very dealership, they have legit bank accounts to send money, bottom line is never by something without having someone go check it out and never send money first.

    9:00 Another key detail here is that the ebay listing has a larger resolution picture. Whoever has the smaller resolution picture copied it in some way that compressed the image and reduced the resolution
    So if the scam is a few layers deep, the largest resolution is the real/original seller
    EDIT: I made the colossal error of not watching the whole video before commenting, and you briefly mentioned it at 10:50. But still you can see the actual resolution numbers earlier

    The only place I trust to buy cars from sight unseen is a local auction.And that's because I've bought enough cars there in person to know they're legit and that their descriptions are good. Plus I buy beaters for $1000 or less, so problems are to be expected.

    It sucks to be old enough to remember when a fairly nice 69 Charger R/T could be had for $900 (in 1979). A 440 4 speed car that ran and drove just fine. And, it sucks even more to remember not buying it. Now all I have is a $0 memory, but I do still have a 73 Roadrunner I bought later that year for $1300, so there's that. A 73 RR is just a 69 Charger with differently shaped sheetmetal, right?

      @Hellcat71782 2 месяца назад

      @ when I bought my hellcat new I went to about 4-5 dealerships trying to buy one new cash not that they care. They all laughed and said you’re not buying one for less than $30,000 above MSRP and you can’t buy one from out of state. Literally told me that multiple times. I drove to New Jersey from Massachusetts bought one for under MSRP and registered it without issue. That’s why I hate dodge. I’m more of a GM and Ford guy. Now seeing them struggle and mass layoffs couldn’t make me happier. And the one near my house had 2 Dmeons and 2 hellcats stolen from them (they store cars for profit during the winter) and they won’t admit that they had custom cars stolen from them. Even tho 8 state troopers were there all day long and my friend is a mechanic there. They’re still denying it to this day. Happened last winter. Karma comes full circle. They steal from customers and they got stolen from. That’s life I guess

      I’ve told the story of my interest in them before. When I was 17 I really wanted one, and $3500 was a DEAL. I’m pretty sure it was a scam post I was looking at for one at that price in 2008 when I tried to borrow the money from my mom to buy it. As I got older and my income and means to buy went up, so did the prices on these cars - to the point that they always stayed out of my reach, until I made a couple choice moves a couple years ago. I couldn’t afford another one today, but I managed.
