  • In this episode of Minutes With we sat down with Manny Gullam, who told us his story of being groomed into drug trafficking operation known as County Lines.
Manny told us how he got from trading cocaine, crack and heroin on the streets miles away from home at a young age to finding a way out of drug trafficking.
Thank you to Manny for taking part! You can join and support Manny’s boxing career by emailing him at mannymohamed820@gmail.com or Farida.gullam@hotmail.co.uk

The amount of young people that are extremely talented but just don’t have the opportunity to show there talent is unbelievable,
I mean if a young kid from an underprivileged area/family is amazing at golf/tennis they aren’t going to be able to get the same opportunity as a young lad from a well off family, it’s be almost impossible for a youngster from a single parent low income family to pursue golf so he will pursue something else,

Glad this is finally being called what it is, grooming! Many young boys in this country fall victim to this and it's never called grooming because people think it's grooming if there's a sexual element, but that's not true.

Did he get groomed into carrying a knife or groomed into assaults or groomed into smoking weed. It is grooming because the adults see that they are vulnerable and exploit that. A minor's brain is still developing, they are easily manipulated and whether you like it or not, it is grooming. Also a lot of kids that do this in cities like London come from poor backgrounds, they see the olders have nice trainers, money to pay their bills etc and this draws them in. Then those olders exploit them. Simple. @@fernandotorress100

I personally do not accept this as grooming although I am sure there is some cases that come close to a form of grooming. But too many kids think they can now just excuse everything they did of their own free will as not their fault or any responsibility at all. This is harmful to true long term change he even states stopped because of the sentences getting handed out not an awakening of morals

Poverty the big one thats got people in the west. Some in the west think they are not living in poverty but FYI:
The nation is trillions in DEBT. The money we use is 'promissory notes' (promises to pay) which means we have NOTHING we are in debt and operating on promises for the future.
And thus we are all in minus figures big time. Far far far from wealthy, we ain't even 1p/1c above ZERO.

If they legalised and regulated drugs it would fix so many of society’s problems. It sounds insane but the fact of the matter is people will always buy drugs just as they always bought alcohol, even during American Prohibition laws. If you made sugar illegal there would be criminal gangs running that, and diluting their product with all sorts of crap to make it go further and make more money.
Legalising and regulating these substances is the only way to protect people who need a crutch like drugs from greater danger, and if they were provided proper facilities like the one just opened in Scotland it would make it less likely that they’d leave their needles etc around to pose a threat to others. They’re not bad people they’re just in a bad way and need help and they won’t get it from gangsters. Whether someone uses drugs or not someone they know may, and may go from being someone they knew to someone they still love but can’t reach. The least we can do as a society is ensure those people aren’t also victims to criminals and those who will exploit their predicament.

Heartwarming interview, glad this guy got out and hope that many others do too as there are many that have no support at all. I've seen runners that looked to be less than 12 years old. I relate to this as I was manipulated into selling drugs as a teenager by my mother's abusive partner, my actual dad was never there for me and most of the people I grew up with had the same problem in that we didn't have positive male role models and looked up to the hard men and gangsters. I got out of it and went to uni and stuff but realised that I could sell drugs there and so moved stuff up to sell to students and after some tragedies in my family, I went into the "hard food" side of it all and did this in different parts of the country on and off over the years. The county lines thing either wasn't a thing then or at least wasn't defined in the way that it is now but I think it always starts with grooming and manipulation, lack of opportunities, lack of positive role models, different kinds of abuse, fear, anger, lashing out and more. But it is a rigged game and it never ends well for people unless they get out (and you can get out, without snitching too, if you're not too deep into it, but some people are in too deep before they even know it and that's why they use kids).
The big guys who never get caught and who bring it in, from import to wholesale to large supply - the ones who seem to be around forever - usually have some kind of relationship with law enforcement or at least have access to corruption within institutions that allow them to prosper, and plenty of the top guys snitch all the time. But the kids who you see acting like badmen, carrying knives, stabbing each other over BS and all that, the ones who say "snitches get stitches", these are expendable. The higher up it goes, the more ruthless the people are and the snitching rule only applies to lower level crooks for the most part (I'm sure that some big guys have gone a long way without snitching but usually they will at least have some friends in CID or wherever... through the Lodge and all that...). It is a dirty, nasty game but it wont end as it generates £billions and only a minority of that is stashed under mattresses, and even that is technically laundered into the mainstream economy via buying expensive trainers and all that. Now that grooming is seen as a vital part of this whole process, as well as exploitation in the general sense, hopefully the right people can get the right help and we can move towards harm-reduction based approaches rather than seeing this as a primarily criminal issue. Stories like the one shown here by LADbible help society come to terms with these truths.

    20 80 packs, 1,600pcs
    In a week say 230pcs/day
    Assume 12 hours a day, 19pcs/hr
That's assuming no shrinkage or breakage.. and you really are on percentage
If selling light and dark, and you have the best product... 20 bits an hour, every hour... certainly seems doable.
But nobody wants to say, I got abused and made no money going cunch like a dickhead and making 300 a week gross, and on a bad week being set up into indented labour via "robbery".
Its a cold world. I'm not saying he is lying, but any youngsters hearing "2k a week" could well misconstrue the moral of this story..

Byron Road, is off Navigation Road, near Travis Perkins in the City.
How mad a society we live in - i never thought i would find the man that terrorised the area i used to live being praised on social media!!
I use to live in Navigation Road in Chelmsford where Manny was prevalent, he was an absolute scumbag. He created a circle of crime, supplying mostly to homeless people, who couldn't afford anything, so they stole from local business, the same homeless people you see spaced out or begging in the high-street. You would see Manny walk into the back alleys where there would be a conveyor of users ready to be supplied, absolute madness and you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it. He was so obvious, he stuck out like a sore thumb, so stupid.
Good for him for changing his lifestyle, however he's still bowling around smoking weed, and he was still actively dealing 24-18 months ago.
He was selfish then, thinking only of himself to have materialistic lifestyle, destroying lives and a community.
If he really wants to make a change he will go back to those communities and fix what damage he created, help the people who he pushed drugs onto to change their lives.......... but he wont, he'll continue looking for social media gratitude and learning how to fight in case he goes to prison, which is the only reason he learnt to fight, because he was was a skinny drip and would have been destroyed by real men in prison.
The fact that he's portraying Chelmsford (City!) as a retirement area with one bus an hour tells a lot about where his head is at - he still seems bitter about the area that stood up to oust someone who is a narcissistic pr**k.
Manny - go back to the areas you poisoned and fix the wrong you created........ but he wont! Prove me wrong.

He was literally answering a question not using it as an excuse. Whichever way you wanna see it , when a parental figure is absent in a child’s life , it will always cause them some kind of trauma. He had no role model to guide him into becoming a man. He learnt it off the streets and luckily enough he actually didn’t need a dad to help guide him in the right path! I’m glad he turned his life around ❤ 💪
      - keep your useless criticism to yourself. It ain’t helping anyone

Don’t blame yourself for what he went through it’s not your fault. You did the right thing in sticking by him through thick and thin. 👏

That’s how groomers work, they target kids with dads/ adult figures not in the house and the parents that are too busy working round the clock. Schools are too overwhelmed to inspire these kids. Groomers offer friendship and hope

One also has to wonder if these good-looking young dealers also fall foul of any other predators?!
