Dwight’s sentiment about about CEOs making 400x what their typical worker isn’t wrong. But he IS wrong about the song and its message. It’s not making fun of obese people on welfare. It’s calling attention to a broken system that simultaneously neglects people who are actually starving, and yet incentivizes others to continue incredibly self-destructive behaviors as long as they remain dependent.

Exactly, both can be equally true. I think everyone freaked out when they heard that 300lb and don’t want to do the right thing and not condone shitty behavior. The song is pretty clearly not just calling out fat people. It is more about how this system is incentivizing not working or working less than you could to increase the amount of government aid that is available to a given person.

@@noprob364I've always hated the welfare system. It's such a giant trap. If you're on welfare they will punish any attempt at bettering yourself. Food stamps allowing things like soda and cookies and just junk. It's all so damn rigged against those who end up needing it. Then you have the ones gaming the system which is honestly quite infuriating.
If we're gonna have a welfare system it needs to work. The goal shouldn't be a system that punishes those looking to become self sufficient, it should be a system that helps those in need get back on their feet. The current systems are bad jokes and the only ones finding it funny are those gaming the system and politicians.

Also remember this dude works a daddy’s company if I remember correctly smoked a ton of pot (proof he has disposable income) he was living a decent life before he blew up it’s just a right wing talking point

@@colinchristensen4398 Okay, so lets get to the facts. First, what I commented was his words, not mine. I did look up what SNAP alone reported as spent on "junk food", 23 billion dollars in 2023 was spent on junk foods, which to me does sound pretty excessive when that 23 billion could have been spent on healthy foods. There are currently discussions within the government to ban junk food purchases for the SNAP program because of such a high spending of tax dollars for junk foods, which I agree 100% with.
On to Oliver's upbringing. His grandfather left him 90 acres of farm land. He was in fact poor. His wife and 2 children lived in a $750.00 trailer completely off grid since he could not afford electric and utilities on the property. He worked most of his adult life as a factory worker in a papermill, NOT owned by his family. I do not see a single report of him being a "pot smoker". Please link where you might have seen that.

I do really like that song but I also agree that it should have hit more points about politicians and the millionaires that don't care, they're the ones that are really working the system they're the ones that are really letting you and I the working-class down.

That's not how it works. Do you even know what an actor is? It's not just people on the front page of Disney+ or the box office, it's also every extra, every stunt double, every side character you've forgotten. Most of these actors don't make millions, or even hundreds of thousands. Most actors are struggling to live in our current economic climate.

She had to report her income because of the job. They took away her $300 a month money for the kids and almost all the food stamps. Left her with $150 a month .
The girl quit that day in the social service office. Right in front of my sister. Busting her butt for a little paycheck. Now she can do what ever she want .oh yeah her rent was being paid by social service so all she had to do was come out of her pocket with 15 to $20 a month and when she got her job she had to pay the full amount of the rent which was like maybe eight hundred bucks. That isn't true, not in the slightest. The US Government has two budgets, the Mandatory and the Discretionary budget. The Mandatory budget encompasses almost all of what we call welfare, and it makes up a wopping 60% of the budget most years, add in a +/- 5% for variance. It includes SNAP, and Social Security, which are the two largest programs in the total budget. It includes several other forms of welfare as well. The Discretionary budget makes up the remainder. That is everything from the Departments of Education, Energy, Defense, State, Agriculture... The list goes on. Welfare is not a bad idea if it is being used on people who fix their situation, who grow, and become net contributors. Sadly, going on demographic studies, that is simply not the case. Most people who use welfare will never become a net contributor, not even in a single tax year!

    • @ericksonjustinAK
      @ericksonjustinAK Год назад +5

That's not true at all. It's much higher percentage than that. But even if it were true, welfare is still a problem because of the way it is designed. It incentivizes people to make less because if they make more they get less benefits and it makes single moms to stay single. I have seen these results first hand from single moms turning down pay raises and relationships because they didn't want to want to ruin their benefits. Of course, when that happens, they also have less incentive to work hard and grow their career and live a fulfilling life.

@@idiotshittiot My source is US Department of the Treasury.
      Social Security - 21%(1.12T)
      Health - 14%(741B)
      Income Security - 13%(666B)
      National Defense - 13%(666B)
      Medicare - 13%(657B)
      Net Interests - 11%(561B)
Education, Training, Employment, and Social Services - 5%(286B)
Veterans Benefits and Services - 4%(233B)
      Transportation - 2%(100B)
Community and Regional Development - 1%(77B)
      Other - 4%(192B)
Social Security + Health + Income Security + Medicate + Social Services + Veterans Benefits and Services = Social Welfare. Technically i could even add Net Interests here, as most of this debt has been acquired by giving free shit to parasites. This is why there is this huge debt.
"Social welfare is a broad and imprecise term that refers to different things depending on context. Strictly speaking, when used with the definite article, the term refers to the overall well-being of the entire society, which could be based on such factors as standard of living, access to essential social services, quality of the environment and exposure to crime.
In most general usage however, used without an article, it refers to a governmental system designed to assist and improve the well-being of those sectors of society most in need. These include those living below the poverty line, the elderly/retired, sick/permanently injured, unemployed, and those with new dependents (e.g., young mothers)."

Anthony's message rings true, and the vast majority of this country knows that greed has ruined us. This country is imploding, and the 1% is riding this chaos out till there is nothing left because as far as they are concerned, when crap hits the fan, they can flee to there vacation home in any country and made sure we are so divided that we will be to busy fighting each other to go after the true tyrants who created this mess

Ok lived in NY state for almost 2 decades and I'll give you an insight into how bad the welfare system is there....there are 4th and 5th generations welfare recipients....the state pays rent utilities food medical dental vision prescription and gives them a monthly check. I paid over 12,000 a year in property taxes alone and once went to the store got a can of tuna and stood and watched as the lady in front of me had an entire conveyor belt of steaks rung up then paid with a benefits card.....I just looked at the can of tuna and thought its nice to know that my taxes are paying for someone else to eat better than me.

You're absolutely wrong. Those billionaires actually produce things. They also provide jobs that are not taxpayer funded. Welfare recipients contribute nothing at all. And it's millions of peopke, not hundreds or thousands. Also those billionaires already pay the majority of taxes in this country.

Welfare causes more harm than it does do good, there are way too many leeches in welfare who can’t get out of it or refuse to get out of it, in the modern Western world or at least these in America poor people are obese because they are the ones and large Who are eating cheapest and most unhealthy foods provided and approved by the government.

Put some of the welfare taxes into schools! People are refusing to pass levies in my state because it adds a little bit to their taxes! Our highschool is literally falling apart (we had a chunk of rotten drywall fall off of the wall), but they won’t vote to pass basic maintenance levies! Put some of that wasted money into maintaining the condition and improving the safety in our schools!
