Great first impressions, James. I love that colourway! I don't dare take my neon-lime ones out myself! Hopefully, I'll be able to head out into the trails this weekend, so I can share my thoughts. Purely having them in my hands, gives me a feeling I'll be liking them!
Great video! I have the Lone Peaks 6s. I love them. I didn't really like the colors of the 7s, except the one you have. That one looks good. Well done. New follower here. Crow
Hi, James. As used to sing Tina Turner.... "You're simply the best". Very good first review, Bro. 👍 I will wait price going down a little then I'll get them. 💪
Encouraging to hear about the increased grip. Been a massive LP fan for a few years, but the one thing it's less than perfect on is when my local Cornish coast paths start getting muddy... they're not awful, but I find myself sliding sideways quite a bit. If they can improve on that, this may just be the perfect trail shoe! I've found I need to go half a size down with the 5 and the 6 too, so useful to hear that's still the case. Thanks!
Thanks .. they certainly aren’t like the hoka evo jawz when it comes to traction but definitely better than previous models ! Hope they work out for you !
@@movemorenowjames Sounds good enough for me to be honest. I don’t expect them to be a true mud shoe… just always felt that a few simple tweaks to the outsole could make them that little bit better.
Is the grip much better in mud than the older models? I tend to buy older models to save money but my main problem is grip, in UK weather, on farm paths and public footpaths, fields etc.
Hi, I would not say it’s loads better but I do think the new lug pattern is better and seems to cope with mud / slippery mud than previous models. (Still not brilliant - just better!)
Thanks for the review. I’ll be interested to see how you find them on wet runs with the changes in drainage. Not sure I’m 100% sold on them removing the drainage holes up front. My LP 6s are still going strong so no upgrade on the cards for me but I like to see what changes Altra bring in.
I love the lone peaks, the only issue I have is the midsole breaks down so quick under my 6'2 90kg pounding. So hopefully this issue was maybe addressed!?
I know what you mean - have to say my last pair of 5s still seem ok but then i quite like the minimalist feel - but yes, they definitely do flatten out a bit over time
James, I've just made the leap and bought my 1st pair of Altra after watching your video. Any tips on how to transition from trainers with drop to zero drop and what niggles can I expect or look out for?
Hi, sure thing .. I have done a video a while back on transitioning but will definitely say take your time. Start with a zero drop run every 4/5 runs and build from there each week… lots of barefoot walking around the house etc, stretch but don’t go over board as your calves will already getting the extra stretch from the different drop. A higher cadance help me, about 180 ish and try and land mid foot - almost as if the whole foot kisses the ground at the same time and recoils back up… (the higher cadence should also help with where your feet land - not too far forward … ) The main thing is to take your time.. no hurry
@@movemorenowjames Thanks James, really appreciate you taking the time to reply and thanks for the advice, I'll have a look at the video you did as well 👍🏻
Cracker. Hahah. Smooth. 😂😂 No trails where I live sadly, but running mostly in Escalantes and love them. The toe box on Altras is awesome. Just the right amount of foam. If I ever live near a trail would love to try these. Maybe Lone Peak 27 by then. Gym shoes… Xero Shoes HFS for the win for me 😊
That's a good looking shoe James. The new tread pattern looks a lot better and I'm loving the addition of the guide rail. Fantastic advice on the fit. Question, who is working the camera for you on the final shots?
Thanks buddy… so the final shot I was playing around with my dji OM5 auto tracking … need to play around with it and slow it down but liked the movement
Awesome man! I am looking forward to hear about grip on wet rocks and stuff 😃 I like what i hear so far though. Shouldnt you wear and older lone peak for the gym though? Save on the fresh tread dude 👊😂
I have wide feet but haven't found an Altra shoe that works, mont blanc and Torin were close but both have issues, I use the mont blanc as a road shoe and for that it's comfortable but on technical trails it's unstable and useless. Lone peak sole is not grippy enough and too hard, maybe the new version is better, will be interesting to see how you get on with them.
Hi James, thanks for the quick review Good to see your videos are getting a few more views. Your b roll suggests some filming of your workouts. Looking forward to seeing a longer one on those. Your visual story telling, cuts and scripting is getting really interesting. I hope it's OK to say, I often find your music editing not so smooth. With sudden stops in some odd places. Can be a tad jarring. Love what you do and offering that in a spirit of support.
I am not happy about there being no stitching. I have seen people having issues with the glue in the Olympus 5 with the sole coming off entirely. I doubt they're using different compounds being they're both the new models. It doesn't matter how comfortable they are, or how grippy they are, they're not going to last hard use because of the glue and I'm basing this off how bad the O5 I've seen. I'm going to be sticking with Topo.
@@movemorenowjames I have had bad experience with glue in footwear. I tried the Nike combat boots when I was in Iraq and they melted in the heat. So I avoided glued footwear since then, then I see the issues with the O5, then hear about them no longer using stitching, it just feels bad because of my personal experience. It also kinda feels like going from stitching to glue only was a profit margin stuffing decision. IDK. I have been really let down by Altra lately.
Have to say, you aren’t the only one feeling let down - things have definitely changed since it was bought by VF corp , some good some not so…. So is topo stitched ? Interesting

@@movemorenowjames Great! They proved to be TOO minimal for me to run in regularly but I wear them casually most of the time now. Lifting weights in the gym will really make you feel grounded in them and great foot stability through the heel as you lift. Still, they have a good return policy so you can always send them back if they don’t quite work but it is a very experience the first time you wear them!
