Make no mistake Zach - it does matter that you are prior military. Great insight from a prior Navy vet and father of a Marine Officer currently serving. Remember - "Professionals play hurt" -Use that drive, toughness, and ever ending spirit and know everyday you are a CHANGE AGENT to our community. Best gentleman. Look me up in Arizona if ever.
Great video guys. It's awesome you got Veteran with a Sign on, nothing like spreading a good message and calling out BS with some spicy humor. And I got waaay too excited to hear my name mentioned on Jocko's podcast, not gonna lie. Thanks Zach!
I found your podcast about a year ago and it has been my go-to on a daily basis. I’m now obsessed with SOG and past combat stories but it’s really changed my outlook on well… life. I really appreciate what you’re doing and what you’ve done. Thank you.
Wow! I was born in 87, and it sounds like he's literally describing my childhood . . . I was raised almost the exact and way after my mom and dad split.
When Zachs First Sgt. told him "Don't do this anymore, go home, I'm proud of you". Acknowledging his more than sufficient sacrifice and in a way giving him permission to live out the rest of his life. Many soldiers need that big push to attend to themselves.
My only memory of SOI grad before getting on the bus for 1/8...I walked behind a gaggle of Gunny's and said, "by your leave gentlemen.." one spun around and growled "do I look gentle to you?". Good times. My experience was a decade before you, but my grunt experience is a mirror image. Enjoyed it.
1:35:40 -- I'll also confirm as an RA (for a summer) while at school, you're essentially the enforcer for your floor. Anything bad that happens, you're expected to be the blue falcon. 1:37:18 -- As a retired fraternity president, attending a university that was just down the road (aka the 5) from Pendleton, there were ALWAYS a few Marines and 1 SEAL (a pretty well-known one) at our parties. There was always at least one "Super Chad" moment assuming you were able to still stand before midnight and all kinds of hilarious stupidity going on at all times. Some of the greatest times of my life were in college. Feels like yesterday! Miss those days!
Great story about poss testing before deployment. We did the same thing in ‘08. Reported to North Ft Hood on Jan 2, 08…..needless to say the guy who pissed hot changed his call sign to 8ball for the deployment.
This podcast either has fantastic audio quality, or else everyone on it is screened for voice quality before going on. Just an off the wall observation.
Jocko have you watched the antihero podcast yet? There's a soldier (retired) Matthew Cubbler speaking out about the lie's if the seal team's and you, Chris Kyle are brought up along with Slabinski n Roberts ridge, O'Neil lying about killing UBL and other stuff as well. Maybe you can get Brent Tucker (Delta force operator) on the show so we can clear up what's being said because it's not good
"My wife had gotten pregnant with our first child" should actually have been, "I had gotten my wife pregnant with our first child." Ain't no immaculate conception goin' on here.
One of the best episodes in recent memory. Really like this guy.
