❤ I have heard many French people say, " Je suis là. " for " I am here. ".
French is French ! They speak the way they want to. No matter the grammer. There are idioms in French, as there are also in all other languages.
Be aware, the word " are " in English is borrowed Viking word. The same goes for " egg ". The Germanic word " Ei "was too close to " eye ", so we English borrowed " egg ".
Everyday Spoken French and Fast Spoken French differ very often from Written ( Textbook ) French. Very often.
If French people speak in a certain fashion then that is their language. It is the way they want to speak.
When a foreigner wants to enforce some strict grammar rules the French people find that weird.
" What in hell is he saying ? He must be foreign. He sounds like American. He speaks like he learned French from a textbook, in some American classroom. ... No, he doesn't speak French well at all. We don't speak Written French. We speak Spoken French. The same as them. They speak Spoken English, not Written English. ".
I must agree totally with the French people. I should learn to speak Spoken French. Then we can really communicate.
Certainly the French people can understand Written French, but Americans can't understand Spoken French. Unless they practice speaking Spoken French.
We Americans must understand that we can use Written French for reading and writing French.
But speaking and understanding Spoken French is altogether different.
We must learn to speak and understand Spoken French for conversation. But we can at least try to communicate with Written French if that is all we know.
I prefer that we know both. Just as the French people do.

Standard languages are taught in schools. That is schools first priority. Teach proper language skills. So, the standard language is taught each and every year. We all learn our Standard language. And, we are tested on it over and over.
But, we speak our spoken language for the most part. Not our written Standard language.
We learn to spell each word, in it's Standard form. We learn correct grammar.
But, we rebel. We loosen the grammar somewhat. We add slang. We shorten our speech. We learn our regional dialect. And, we speak fast. And, we understand our fast spoken dialect.
We are simply little AI machines. Processing our speech at the speed of sound. Probably faster. As we can anticipate from context.
So, context really help for better translation.
