This is really helpful! I have a baby right now that I'm the process of halter breaking. This is the first baby we've ever had. The rest of my herd is halter trained but I've been trying to find a good video on how to train him. Also, could you do a Video on BMS (Berserk Male Syndrome) and why having a single alpaca or having alpacas indoors is so bad? It seems there are alot of people getting a single, Cria and trying to bottle feed it and raise it like a dog. This is not ok.
Not an alpaca, but in 2001, I obtained a baby goat from the livestock auction. I had to learn how to keep her alive in her infancy. The idiot who gave me advice in the beginning nearly caused me to kill her. Exploring a feed store gave me the saving bottle feed. Anyway, I had the most spoiled goat in history. She was linguistically intelligent, understanding quite a few treat words. When I tied her collar to a high point on a tree out front, she managed to circle the tree until she was held against it. I took the lead and unwound her, telling her to go around the tree. On the third time, I was able to tell her to go around the tree and motion the correct direction. She clearly understood what I was telling her. Her favorite word was CornNuts. Anyway, she was bonded to me and would attack anyone else in her yard. The sonofabitch of the situation is that she had a limited lifespan. At 12½, she was showing signs of arthritis. Within a few weeks, she quit eating, showing that her time was up. I took her to a secluded place in the desert and put her down. I tried to be the staunch man, but the grief was overwhelming. It took several years to set aside the tears, but they show up now and then. My friends have suggested that I get another baby goat. I can't put myself through that ending again.
I'm trying to halter train an untrained mini mule, she is really scared of the halter because she was abused with things like ropes, i will try the alpaca method XD
I have 4 2 years old alpacas and previous no training to wear a halter. It hasn’t been easy to put them on, I’m trying to be as calm as possible but seem they are stressed. Do you have any tips for me for young alpaca training? ( I’ve followed all your points in the video but I may need to start over to gain trust) what are the treats you give? Thank you for your help.
Hi I have a question. I have a friend who has a cockatiel who has a rip him his nose. He can’t get his bird to a vet. Is there anything he can do to help his bird?
I'm not a veterinarian by any means, but it may be able to be supported with super glue. There are nature videos of wild birds having their beaks reconstructed, an eagle comes to mind.
One of my alpacas is REALLY uncomfortable and he is so wild whenever he has it on, not a moment when he would stand still, just jumping, running and kicking his legs around and stuff. It took us an hour to even attach the rope and he would barely walk with the halter. How do you get past that stage?
Who told you that? I've never seen anyone in the alpaca farming community say grain is toxic ??? Grain is made from corn and plant materials so what part would even be toxic?
Are you able to go for a walk with just one alpaca or do you need more than one alpaca to go for a walk? I currently have three but only one is halter trained from watching your video! I haven't trained the other two as they are currently pregnant.

They are ok to go by themselves when I walk them around the farm, but if I leave I take two. They actually behave better when there is two.
@@HappyTailsAnimals Fantastic, thank you! Would it be ok to halter train pregnant alpacas?
