    The woman playing Onaya is a wonderful and underrated actress named Meg Foster, who is probably best known for being the original TV version of Cagney on Cagney and Lacey before she was fired for "not being sufficiently feminine". Before this, she starred as Hester Prynne in a humble but faithful adaptation of The Scarlet Letter. Her performance was spellbinding and contained many moments of her voice modulated in a similar way as it is here, though for shorter intervals. It is always a treat to both see and hear her.

    In all seriousness this advice of just writing whatever comes to mind actually helps me get my own writing done. Even when I'm editing I'm still in that stream of consciousness state that keeps me in the story.

    • @sarahberkner
      @sarahberkner 3 месяца назад

      Depends on the person. I'm not a writer and I'm the opposite personality to Jake Sisko (ESTJ instead of INFP) and I have to have a good idea to write down (which I do occasionally) otherwise there's no use. Editing I find much easier than writing from scratch, and writing parodies is easier than songwriting.
      That's for writing fiction, but writing down whatever comes to mind can still be helpful for journaling and making to-do lists.

    This is a variation of the Scottish legend of the 'Leannán Sídhe'; a powerfully-inspirational, predatory phantom who usually takes the form of a beautiful woman. A person who falls under the influence of one of these beings will produce works of genius, but at the price of a premature death... and yes, it is rumored that that's what happened to poet John Keats, who wrote world-famous poems and died at age 25.

    • @Berserker_Louis1117

      How weird Star Trek has a sub-genre of sex ghosts... Crusher's candle, Jake's muse... Voyager probably had a couple.

    • @jenniferweston7621
      @jenniferweston7621 2 года назад +12

      @Joshua Skaug: More or less. An interesting aspect of the legend is that at least some of the Leannán Sídhe's 'victims' were/ are willing participants.
      Imagine for a moment, that you have notable talent in some artistic field- music, painting, architecture, writing, etc. You work hard at developing this talent, for you're passionate about doing great things in your field, but you're tormented by doubts about whether you really possess sufficient ability.
      Now imagine that you meet an attractive person whose very presence enables you to express your artistic gifts to the fullest. Under their influence (which may or may not include sex), you can achieve your highest potential, and produce masterpieces that will be admired and acclaimed well beyond your own time. Your name will be remembered for centuries to come.
      The price: a shortened lifespan.
      Undoubtedly, a lot of aspiring artists would consider this an acceptable exchange.

      @@jenniferweston7621 Funny that you should mention that some partners of the Leannan Sidhe were willing. There's a video game I've wanted to make for years now that intimidates me because I'm afraid I won't make it correctly. And I know I have the ability to make it because I have a knack for mathematics, programming and music. I don't know if video games could be considered art, but if I were to ever meet a Leannan Sidhe who offered to inspire me to make it in exchange for my life force, I would consent to her knowing full well all the consequences involved. Better to live a fulfilling few years full of creativity and passion than a few decades as just another cog in the capitalist machine. If I knew how to summon a Leannan Sidhe, I would try...
