NO megas the last thing we need is megas they’ve done enough..😒 the variant was the best thing they could’ve done with it other than giving it a much needed stat buff & +20 Hp & Sp.defense +10 in Atk Solid Rock ability
Probably because most people turned to Rhydon for not killing itself, easier to use and better bulk and power, this is my best guess but not unrealistic
Poor Golem, currently its typing is just painful to see. Two 4x weaknesses along with Four normal ones is plain brutal, but being so slow that it can't take advantage of its amazing STAB combo is just depressing. Though to be honest, atleast it was once good, unlike its Alolan Form that will never be a metagame staple, as long as Magnezone and even Magneton exist.
it has uses in OU like the video descriped. But it isn't good in any other format or to be used how it meant to be. as a classic bomber. in PU its worse than regular Golem according to the playerbase
@@M3rtyville I know. The point is that Alolan Golem will never be an OU staple unless Magnezone and Magneton are somehow banned, heck people might actually use Magnemite over it like how people used Diglett and Trapinch in Dugtrio's place during the Arena Trap suspect test.

Rock and ground is A HORRIBLE combo, so of course golem would end up being trash. 4 times weak to grass and water, weak to ground, weak to fighting, weak to ice like bruh that's almost every good offensive type in the game.
Grass is pretty bad too offensively due being resisted by so much, the amount of weaknesses it has doesn't help either, but it does have a niche of being super-effective against Rock, Water and Ground types as well as being resistant to Electric, Ground, Water and other Grass-types
I always found it weird that they kept the Geodude evolution line Rock/Ground, I always thought he'd become a fighting type since he was just a rock who flexed his arms constantly and Graveler was a 4 armed boulder, Golem on the other hand to me felt like his own Pokemon and not part of the Geodude family.
I know they combined some Pokemon evolution lines late in RBY's development (Wartortle did not originally evolve into Blastoise, for example). Maybe Golem was a standalone they combined with Geodude's family to reduce redundancy.
Who the hell designed Alolan Golem? I can't fathom how someone think it's a good idea to take a dinosaur formed like a testicle, slap a mustasch and a beard on it and call it electric. I'm shocked atleast.
It's implied that like Probopass, the mustache and beard is made of magnetic dust, and magnetism is definitely related to electricity. What's more interesting however, is the railgun addition to its back. Shame it doesnt have a signature move akin to Dragapult.
Golem was that pokemon which i really liked the design but could never get in the games as a kid since i had no one to trade with, and then it got outclassed when i could actually get it ^^
@@EmperorDionx yeah but usually when playing a new game now i try to use the new pokes and not always my gen 1-3 favourites (Let's Go was an exception of course). And then i usually give up mid way my second playthrough and end up not actually using multiple teams ^^. I still love Golem though, obviusly any mon can work for gym battles but i just don't play as much as i used too, and definitively not online anymore :(
I remember when I was younger, me and my friend played through HGSS and he had a Golem which was a big deal to us. He always beat me with it Then I received a Kyogre lol
honestly it is sad golem lost rapid spin, in gen 5 he could have been a great substitude to donphan as a check to sand teams that can explode on mons like conk or jirachi with custap, as well as a great replacement to garchomp/forretress in sand as a setter that also threaten stuff with stab earthquake and explosion basically doing the same thing excadrill does today, but with sturdy instead of mold breaker but he doesnt have rapid spin :(
I thought of a Mega Machamp for a while, it was something a little like this: Type: Dragon/Fighting Ability: Martial Artist (Essentially Tough Claws, but a 1.5x instead of 1.3) Stats: HP: 90 Attack: 175 Defense: 135 Special Attack: 15 Special Defense: 135 Speed: 55 and the ideal moveset might be something like Cross Chop Dual Chop Bulk Up Poison Jab The idea behind the moveset and typing is that Machamp would be a martial artist who practices Southern Dragon Style Kung Fu. Southern Dragon style is a highly reactive style as far as I know, with the user typically waiting for the opponent to make a move, evade or parry the attack and then counterattack (hence why I didn't change its speed and increased its bulk). I would have included Focus Punch in the moveset, but since Mega Machamp would have no Lefties, I decided against it (the reason being that one of the four rule of Southern Dragon style is "focus to train and condition the body"). Design: I was thinking that Machamp would keep its four arms, have a Gi much like Sawk and Throh, and have some kind of dragon motif. Some emblems of a Gyarados (because it's a chinese dragon) on the Gi, give it some whiskers like a chinese dragon (really emphasize the hell outta that dragon motif). Sorry about the long comment, but I saw your comment and wanted to share my idea for a Mega Machamp.
Hi! Are you going to do a quick revisit because of the body slam discovery in gen I described in freezai's recent video? It seems pretty recent that Rhydon definitivelyovertook Golem in the RBY meta
0:25 Look up the Machoke trading with Graveler DNA mixup theory!! I think its what Graveler got from Machoke in the trade. (Hence Machoke suddenly having four arms post trade evo, while Graveler loses two of his original four arms in the trade, as an example.)
These videos tend to follow a pattern. Gen 1: If you aren't Tauros, Chansey, or Exeggutor, or can't deal with them, you aren't good. Gen 2: RestTalk fest where everything was decent. Gen 3: Another metagame where everything was good. Only less stall-y. Gen 4: EVERYTHING is legitimately good. You have to really suck or have poor stats to not have a chance in any tier. Gen 5: Powercreep booted everything into the pits. Gen 6 and beyond: With few exceptions, you are either good or you suck.
Speaking of defying logic, in his battle against Gary, Ash's charizard was affected by Golem's magnitude despite being a flying type 😂 Also happy St. Patrick's day everyone!
Shea Is Bae Was Charizard roosted? And Vine Whip not really damaging Golem makes sense if it’s a physical attack with 40 base power and Golem uses defense curl. Who knew the anime was ahead of the curve when it comes to physical special split?
@@martytu20 I believe the battle was in the gen 2 anime, while roost wasn't introduced until gen 4 in the diamond and pearl series. Although if we're assuming the physical special split applies, a base 15 power move like fire spin definitely couldn't KO Golem lol :)
I'm pretty sure the same Golem that used Magnitude on Charizard also got one-shot by a Dragon Rage immediately after Seismic Toss failed from it being too heavy. Which is just hilarious. That 40 or less total HP Golem, gotta love anime logic. (Though, to be honest, I do prefer the anime's version of Dragon Rage in which it was essentially a "Dragon Pulse" or "Draco Meteor" kind of attack before those actually existed.)
@@JulianimeIsAmazing Yes that's the exact battle! I mean we're talking about the same battle where charizard beat scizor (which I can believe), golem and Gary's Blastoise all one after the other! Persistence paid off for me. I'm excited to see how this video plays out. Man, this was depressing. Design-wise, Golem was among my favorites and it's honestly sad to see it get hit so hard after GSC. Maybe the next generation will be kinder to Golem.
Golem probably took the biggest fall after Gen 1 because of Rhydon, if Rhydon didn't get an evolution Golem probably would've been a bit better. At least its Alolan form is pretty good
Rhydon is more physically bulky and powerful, has freaking Swords Dance and a better movepool. Megahorn to crush the archnemesis Grass-types plus stuff like Levitate Rock-resists, the elemental punches and Dragon Tail as a phazing move. How could Golem be better even if Rhyperior was never a thing? Sucker Punch, Explosion and slighty better speed, ok, but still. And that Speed advantage would be a disadvantage in Trick Room teams.
No respect for 5th gen golem my secret weapon. My OU 5th gen lead set was sturdy lum max atk max def rocks stone edge eq and sucker punch. And it was AMAZING. Lum sturdy meant 100% guaranteed rocks. Sucker punch could 1hko gengar earthquake would destroy half the metagame with that atk investment stone edge could break walls with crit ratio increase. Golem literally swept whole teams for me.
As someone who knows Pokemon exclusively through Pokemon Go, I was surprised Golem wasn't better in the main series games. Because in PoGo, especially in 2017, Golem was basically one of the best Pokemon to do raids with - it was killer against Zapdos, Moltres, Entei and Raikou.
I would have thought they'd make his rock into a magma ball and rock fire rather then a rock electric with a freaking electric ball shooter and a beard.......what.
Golem may have lived in the shadow of Rhydon, but Alolan Golem was able to acquire metal facial hair (beard, mustache, and eyebrows) and gained the ability to zap water types with the power of thunder.
I love competitive Pokemon it is just that I feel people shouldn't judge a Pokemon by their tier and instead use what they love. Anything can be viable.
I think Golem is a good pokemon, it had it's moment in past generations and now it has some respectable place in the normal meta game with it's Alolan form. But there is just one minor obstacle....Ground...

This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm a really shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I could introduce myself. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I wanted the best for her and I harbored no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seemed happy with her boyfriend, so I didn't bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it. I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already since I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wanted to live some other life without me in it, so I said, "Okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness." My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally couldn''t take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, "you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get myself a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got so distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video." She said, "You know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer." So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.
Fun fact: Choice Band Alolan Golem Explosion with Galvanize is so damaging it could potentially one-shot a Mega Aggron that had max HP and Defense. Damage calculation: ((((2 * 100 / 5 + 2) * 372 Attack * 1.5 Choice Band * 250 * 1.2 Galvanize / 614 Defense) / 50) + 2) * 1.5 STAB = 346 damage versus Mega Aggron's 344 HP. However, this is only assuming the random damage multiplier is the highest possible value. The Mega Aggron would likely survive at low HP in practice.

Atleast golem got a beard... Hurray...?
NO megas the last thing we need is megas they’ve done enough..😒
the variant was the best thing they could’ve done with it other than giving it a much needed stat buff & +20 Hp & Sp.defense +10 in Atk
Solid Rock ability
unfortunately golem moved down to uu in gen 1 because although it has it's own merits, rhydon is just better
Edit: golem is in nu
Probably because most people turned to Rhydon for not killing itself, easier to use and better bulk and power, this is my best guess but not unrealistic
Actually a couple of months ago, Smogon put out an article going over Golem’s fall from OU
www.smogon.com/articles/rby-golem-fall
This leaves the only gen where golem is viable in ou to be gen 2, because of rapid spin and explosion being buffed from 170 to 250 bp
YES!! AFTER 18 MONTHS OF ASKING, IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!
It's our true moment of glory.
@@Carlitonsp1 Yes, it is truly a time of happiness and prosperity.

YEAH!!!
... Now what?
@G G He didnt do the ice type video till one year in, so how could you have been asking for "almost two years"?
Poor Golem, currently its typing is just painful to see. Two 4x weaknesses along with Four normal ones is plain brutal, but being so slow that it can't take advantage of its amazing STAB combo is just depressing.
Though to be honest, atleast it was once good, unlike its Alolan Form that will never be a metagame staple, as long as Magnezone and even Magneton exist.
it has uses in OU like the video descriped. But it isn't good in any other format or to be used how it meant to be. as a classic bomber.
in PU its worse than regular Golem according to the playerbase
It should have been pure rock.
@@M3rtyville I know. The point is that Alolan Golem will never be an OU staple unless Magnezone and Magneton are somehow banned, heck people might actually use Magnemite over it like how people used Diglett and Trapinch in Dugtrio's place during the Arena Trap suspect test.
@@pepeknight alolan Golem has different targets than Magneton and Magnezone. Even if they didn't exist, he would likely see not much use. PU doesn't use Magnemite from my knowledge and alolan Golem isn't viable in any other format minus OU.
@@M3rtyville does PU have any steel types for Magnemite to feast on? Cause the only reason Magneton is UU is because Scizor rules the UU tier and is a great partner for Latias.
I'm here from Freezai talking about how Body Slam not paralyzing normal types made Golem NU
Alolan Rhyperior....Rock/Dragon typing with Solid Rock would be cool.
I only recently started playing showdown, and became enamored with ZU of all things, so seeing Golem was quite the treat for me! Great video!
That OU niche for Alola-Golem was awesome. Had no idea it could work like that! Definitely something for me to consider on my next OU teambuild.
It's specifically a horrible _defensive_ combo. Rock/Ground is actually quite good as an offensive duo.
Rock/Ground is a glass cannon combo. Trash defensively but awesome offensively
Which is a problem when most of them are slow. A Rock/Ground type with high Speed is something I really do think could make competitive waves.
To be honest, yeah. It's design doesn't at all follow. The other two are literally rocks, but golem is some sort of reptile? Doesn't check out
I know they combined some Pokemon evolution lines late in RBY's development (Wartortle did not originally evolve into Blastoise, for example). Maybe Golem was a standalone they combined with Geodude's family to reduce redundancy.
Golem should be psudo legendary
"It was over all a SOLID pokemon in the PU metagame"
Bruh...
That's just Stone cold...
I thought I saw Alolan Golem with a monocle in the thumbnail.
Ah angry golfball i used golem in my first ever playthrough in platinum
If im right my team was
Empoleon
Golem
Leafon
Other 3 i dont know anymore
There's probably a lot of people in the comments that can finally rest easy with this video coming out.
No when that INFERNAPE video came out that what really settle things down
Who the hell designed Alolan Golem?
I can't fathom how someone think it's a good idea to take a dinosaur formed like a testicle, slap a mustasch and a beard on it and call it electric.
I'm shocked atleast.
It's implied that like Probopass, the mustache and beard is made of magnetic dust, and magnetism is definitely related to electricity.
What's more interesting however, is the railgun addition to its back. Shame it doesnt have a signature move akin to Dragapult.
Dammit I thought it said "Golurk"
Feels bad man
Be happy! You got 4 extra gens of content, compared to if it were Golurk.
R.I.P
maybe next time
People actually like golurk?
golurk is ass
but not as ass as golem
as ass as as
How weird is it that Golem got Rapid Spin for 1 generation and then lost it ever since? WTF gamefreak?

I really wish he was a rock and dragon type
and psudo legendary
Golem was that pokemon which i really liked the design but could never get in the games as a kid since i had no one to trade with, and then it got outclassed when i could actually get it ^^
I've found ways to make it work regardless, it still kicks ass and takes names
@@EmperorDionx yeah but usually when playing a new game now i try to use the new pokes and not always my gen 1-3 favourites (Let's Go was an exception of course). And then i usually give up mid way my second playthrough and end up not actually using multiple teams ^^. I still love Golem though, obviusly any mon can work for gym battles but i just don't play as much as i used too, and definitively not online anymore :(
Damn, some stiff competition between Jynx and Ludicolo next week.
I remember that time where i forgot i sent a geodude and a grimer at the daycare at lvl 5, got them back lvl 60 and evolved my geodude into a grolem
I want me a girl built like Golem
Slap her booty and your hand will hurt for days
THICC
like an alolan Golem?
Complete with explosive diarrhea?
Golem will come back to Gen 1 OU one day, I promise
I don’t think it really matters. Golem is really good in Gen 1 NU. It’s at least a better fate than Victreebel.
Galvanize explosion is the way to destroy bulky water types.
Unless they're Quagsire. Or Swampert. Or Gastrodon. Or...
You can always tell that some FSG viewers have never touched competitive Pokemon
Gengarzilla There are far more that will faint to it than not lol
@@gengarzilla1685 ....Seismitoad, Whiscash, Lanturn
I remember when I was younger, me and my friend played through HGSS and he had a Golem which was a big deal to us. He always beat me with it
Then I received a Kyogre lol
If I could change one thing about Competitive Golem, i'd make it so he'd stop getting bullied by Rhydon ;-;
honestly it is sad golem lost rapid spin, in gen 5 he could have been a great substitude to donphan as a check to sand teams that can explode on mons like conk or jirachi with custap, as well as a great replacement to garchomp/forretress in sand as a setter that also threaten stuff with stab earthquake and explosion
basically doing the same thing excadrill does today, but with sturdy instead of mold breaker
but he doesnt have rapid spin :(
Hopefully BDSP gives Golem back Rapid Spin and Sucker Punch, the latter to punch out Ghosts that switch in to block the former and Explosion.
I think the rivalry between Golem and Rhydon in gen 1 was a great thing
If there were a way to have the effect of assault vest while raising speed, maybe both Golem forms could have a new outlook!
the fact that neither him nor machamp have a mega evolution is heresy
They both should have gotten megas.
What about their clones? Gigalith and Conk?
@@Iceblade269 I actually like gigalith as a respectable replacement for golem, his rock slides hit like a truck
@@EmperorDionx And he has sand stream in gen 7.
I thought of a Mega Machamp for a while, it was something a little like this:
Type: Dragon/Fighting
Ability: Martial Artist (Essentially Tough Claws, but a 1.5x instead of 1.3)
Stats:
HP: 90
Attack: 175
Defense: 135
Special Attack: 15
Special Defense: 135
Speed: 55
and the ideal moveset might be something like
Cross Chop
Dual Chop
Bulk Up
Poison Jab
The idea behind the moveset and typing is that Machamp would be a martial artist who practices Southern Dragon Style Kung Fu.
(Hence Machoke suddenly having four arms post trade evo, while Graveler loses two of his original four arms in the trade, as an example.)
masterful decision by gamefreak to buff sturdy in a metagame where it's immediately invalidated by weather and entry hazards.
tbf the weather and hazard problem started in gen 4
That anime logic lmao... Man that made me fell off from the couch nice video as always... Anyways peace ☮️
How good was the Community Tab ACTUALLY?
Ah-ha! They were using inverse battles before inverse battle were a thing.
Honestly though, it's such a great episode of the anime that I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for a little bit :)
please do how GOOD are blowjobs ACTUALLY? I've been waiting for months for you to cover this. When I was younger I thought they were uber tier, but now I'm thinking they may have fallen off as new things like rim jobs have come to dominate the meta...
Golem is in Gen 1 UU now, what the hell?!?!
I thought old generations don't get touched!! But if so then free Venusaur from BW OU when it can't abuse Drought anymore!
It’s now in Gen 1 NU now

That's one of the things I love about it.
golem is an absolute beast from gen 3
Persistence paid off for me. I'm excited to see how this video plays out.
Man, this was depressing. Design-wise, Golem was among my favorites and it's honestly sad to see it get hit so hard after GSC. Maybe the next generation will be kinder to Golem.
Golem probably took the biggest fall after Gen 1 because of Rhydon, if Rhydon didn't get an evolution Golem probably would've been a bit better. At least its Alolan form is pretty good
No Pokemon falls harder than Tauros.
@@TraumaCenter13 What about Jynx or Lapras?
Finally, we are close to finished all OU Pokémon of the first gen!
Who’s left. Also please name actual useful Pokémon. Memes and trash like farfetch don’t count
TheNadroj10 Jynx
Clicca qui per vincere soldi A jynx video would be nice
As someone who knows Pokemon exclusively through Pokemon Go, I was surprised Golem wasn't better in the main series games. Because in PoGo, especially in 2017, Golem was basically one of the best Pokemon to do raids with - it was killer against Zapdos, Moltres, Entei and Raikou.
I always liked Golem's design until they gave him a beard.
Yeah alolan golem design looks dumb af
Female alolan Golem sure looks smexy with that
#FearTheBeard
I would have thought they'd make his rock into a magma ball and rock fire rather then a rock electric with a freaking electric ball shooter and a beard.......what.
And a tazer cannon...
@G G Ah, yes I remember when I used to go outside as a child and extract all the iron particles out of the soil
Years I've been waiting in the darkness for this very moment.
Let me guess Golem was never good.
I was wrong
Hoi
finally guys we did it, after 112 weeks
Golem may have lived in the shadow of Rhydon, but Alolan Golem was able to acquire metal facial hair (beard, mustache, and eyebrows) and gained the ability to zap water types with the power of thunder.
Look at these nerds not using a rock polish sweeper set
I love my sturdy + weakness policy sweeper. Definitely puts in work most battles.
- Rock Polish
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
- Explosion
I love competitive Pokemon it is just that I feel people shouldn't judge a Pokemon by their tier and instead use what they love. Anything can be viable.
I think Golem is a good pokemon, it had it's moment in past generations and now it has some respectable place in the normal meta game with it's Alolan form. But there is just one minor obstacle....Ground...
They should have given Alola Golem Levitate.
Poor A-Golem doesn't even get a ice move other than weak Hp ice
@@TraumaCenter13 That doesn't make any sense

Hp:80 to 100
Attack:110 to 120
Defence:130 to 135
Sp attack 55 to 20
Sp def 65 to 85
Speed 45 to 55.
Abilities:sturdy,rockhead,solid rock
New moves:rapid spin,wild charge,body press,crunch.
I’ve been looking forward to this one.
I feel like Golem is underrated. It’s one of the 4 Pokémon from gen 1 that evolve by trade. The Fab 4 Golem, Machamp, Gengar, and Alakazam
Maybe (Alolan) Golem should get Thunderwave despite being so slow it can actually pull off a sweep
It's not meant to sweep. It's supposed to trap steel types. If you want it to sweep, put it on a TR team.
Gen VII nerfed paralysis by changing the Speed drop from 75% to 50%, so I don't believe it would be enough.
Neat.
So... is Golem a golem? Is it a torttle? ... is it a weird rock reptail?
Golem, confusing me since 1997.
It is a golem made of rock, from Judaism. The Pokemon version is a tortoise with a snail shell made of magmatic rocks fused together
Golem got that name but why? It doesn't resemble a Golem, that was lazy.
Hey look, it's Jasper the Golem from Lucahjin's Heartgold LP (Not literally though). She was pretty much my favourite Pokémon in that LP.

Fun fact: Choice Band Alolan Golem Explosion with Galvanize is so damaging it could potentially one-shot a Mega Aggron that had max HP and Defense.
Damage calculation:
((((2 * 100 / 5 + 2) * 372 Attack * 1.5 Choice Band * 250 * 1.2 Galvanize / 614 Defense) / 50) + 2) * 1.5 STAB = 346 damage versus Mega Aggron's 344 HP.
However, this is only assuming the random damage multiplier is the highest possible value. The Mega Aggron would likely survive at low HP in practice.
How good was agumon actually?
