The "I'm 16 years old scene" is where we really saw what the writers and SMG are capable of. They do not disappoint going forward

Ah, the memories appear to not stretch very far back these days. Anyway, the I am 16 scene obviously and clearly recalls and circles back to a similar scene in the two part first episode.

This is the perfect example of what sets Buffy apart from all the slayers that have gone before which is that she has friends to help her on her mission. If Buffy had been a lone wolf kind of slayer she would've died in the Master's lair and never come back. Because she has friends and people who care about her, Xander and Angel show up in time to save her. What saved her was not slayer Buffy's incredible fighting skills but normal Buffy's ability to form genuine connections (though the fighting skills did come in handy for finally defeating the Master later).

Prophecy girl is THE episode we all sat up and took notice, a glimpse into how good this show would become… it still managed to exceed all expectations so you’re in for a great ride!

This episode (especially Sarah Michelle Gellar's acting) gives you a bit of a glimpse of how good the show starts to get in season two and even better later on.

You are correct, the name of The Anointed One is in-fact Colin.

Prophecy Girl definitely the best episode of S1. Many who are new to the show complain about the special effects, but have to bear in mind this is 27yo show, and S1 did not have a massive budget, plus the writers were conscious of the fact they never knew if it would be recommissioned. Here you can really see the direction of the show changing, giving all the characters so far much more purpose. This incredible show just gets better and better, you will love S2. Some comic relief also, this show has the best one liners ever. The Master ' what do ya think, 5.1' and 'By the way I like your dress'. SMG'S acting is superb here. When she says 'I'm 16 years old I don't want to die' you really feel her anguish. Great enthusiastic reactions to S1, from mid season 2 onwards this show goes like a roller coaster and never stops with some amazing episodes.

Remember back in episode 1, The Harvest, they do a pan transition from the school, to the Masters underground cave, the 1st hint that the Masters lair, where the Mouth of Hell is located, is directly under the school. And in The Harvest, Angel tells Buffy to, "head east, towards the school" when she is going into the tunnel entrance to rescue Jesse. The second hint thst the Hellmouth is under the school. Yet everyone is surprised at the reveal in this episode. They did a masterful job with that.

Whedon just casually dials it up to 11.
" I don't want to die." is where SMG came out with both guns blazing. It won't be the last.
The Master didn't "sort of kill" Buffy...she was well and truly dead. It was because of Xander's reckless plan with Angel that she was saved, and only just barely.

Here's where you get a taste of what's to come. I've seen some reactors seem a bit surprised at how emotional they got during this one, and that's something this show does well, viewers might not even realize how attached they get to these characters during the monster-of-the-week episodes. I think you'll really like S2. You'll have a few S1 type episodes coming up, but...well, you'll see.

Couple of bits of trivia for you. First, look at the background over Willow's shoulder @08:54 (the scene in which Xander is being denied for the second time is almost as many minutes); note the "Just Say No" sign on the wall. There are other cases of wall posters being relevant to the scene over the course of the show, I'm not even certain this is the first. It's a good one, tho. :)
Second, there's a strong echo of Doctor Who 2x3 "School Reunion" here; Mickey driving the car into the school (through double doors, no less) seems to directly reference Cordelia doing it here. Even mores since Anthony Stewart Head is in that DW episode. RTD is known to be huge Buffy fan; he didn't write School Reunion, but still.

Notice the demon that was coming through the Hellmouth had 3 heads. It was Cerberus.
PS, Cerberus means Spot, or Spotted one. Cerberus was not a black dog as often portrayed, but rather he has a mottled coat.

They were never sure if they were being renewed, so each season finale had to be a decent wrap-up, though not always the way you would expect!

    This episode is stellar!
    Except for one point...
Writers take note so you never make this mistake: "I can't give CPR because I don't have breath" is HORSE SHIT. Whenever you see this trope in books or shows, the writers don't know basic biology. It is physically impossible to speak without your lungs pushing air past your vocal cords. Vampires don't need oxygen to survive, but their lungs absolutely do function or they could not speak. They may not circulate oxygen into the bloodstream anymore, but all rescue breathing needs is for the lungs to work as a bellows - pull air in and push it back out - and like I said, you can't make your voice work without doing that. (End editor's rant.)

We see Spike choke Drusilla until she passes out in season 2's finale. How does that happen if she's not breathing?

in theory vampires might have Better ability for CPR, since they might not convert the oxygen into carbon dioxide when they breathe in and out. still, I like the fan theory that Angel just didn't know how to do CPR and felt embarrassed

If only The Master had drained Buffy rather than bit her before letting her drown. I think he might have won. Too bad, so sad.

He was on a timetable. You can actually lose 70% of your blood and still survive, even if you're not a Slayer.

    • @Buffy8Fan
      @Buffy8Fan 3 месяца назад +2

      @@MrLorenzovanmatterho SPOILERS FOR SEASON THREE
Doesn't make my point less valid. Nor does it take much longer for vampires to drain victims. We also know from _The Wish_ episode The Master doesn't have a lust for feeding (and therefore killing that way) anymore (he only does so to feed and to get out of churches he's trapped in). It makes more sense that the reason he drowned her is because he lost his lust for killing the way vampires usually do. But the point still stands timetable or no because he still had enough time based on how much time fans know/see/know it takes for vampires to drain their victims.

@@MrLorenzovanmatterho you can only survive that level of blood loss if you grt immediate medical attention. That was not possible considering where Buffy was.
