    That last mark you’ll notice a single camera flash in the crowd as he took it, well channel 9 forty show tracked the people down and flew them to Melbourne and had their pic blown up into a poster, they caught it at the perfect moment the ball was in his hands about 12ft off the ground

    For mark number 33, you asked a few questions. The ball would have been kicked by the catcher's teammate, and they are the attacking team. The defenders would usually be trying to punch the ball over the goal line in that situation, whereas the attackers are trying to catch it. The ball hadn't yet crossed the goal line when it was caught, so basically the catcher would now have a free kick from right in front of the goal - an almost guaranteed 6 points.

    • @aggimaggi7246
      @aggimaggi7246 Месяц назад +5

      It's worth mentioning that if the ball gets touched before it goes over the goal line then it's only worth a point rather than six, which is why the defenders would be trying to touch it. The attackers would be trying to mark it to get another shot at goal.

    You’re right about being a spectacular part of the game . Hence the term specky . I’m an Aussie and it still amazes me , it nvr ceases to be a highlight of the game . Enjoy the AFL rabbit hole mate . You should try and watch a game for perspective now. The footy season is 6 games into a 23 round season 😊 . The underhand volleyball pass is call a handball

    I love the AFL reactions. I lived in Australia in the mid 1990's. I might have been in the crowd on a few of those clips. I tried to catch a footy game whenever I could. Some of the traditions that happen in the crowds are also funny.

    I was at a gym . In a corner of the room, a guy (probably a local football player) was practising his jumps on stackable small platforms. I watched him jump, feet together, in vertical leaps going higher and higher and higher . . . to an incredible height, with no assistance. I was absolutely gob-smacked at his physical ability !

    They can’t be looking back, they are trained to look forward to take the ball coming at them. So it is always a surprise when someone uses you as a ladder. Some take it well and some get nasty. No point in getting mad when it is a part of the game and that person on the bottom will do the same thing to another player. The best players see the funny side and usually like people and they have manners. These are the greats I remember. Thank you.

    You just have to walk past any schoolyard during the footy season to see how much everyone loves this part of the game. You can't walk past a sports field in winter without seeing groups of kids kicking balls to each other and jumping on each other's shoulders.

    gr8 reactions mate, don't worry about the clowns criticizing, u got it right with the Volleyball underhand serve. We luv all sports here 2, I follow St Kilda Saints (not KFC!) & New Orleans Saints in NFL. I wonder if a speccy is possible in NFL when a quarterback throws a hail mary? Marks are a feature of our game. Kids, in their playtime at school, practice taking speccy's over their mates. Dads do it too at bar-b-ques & after a few beers with their mates, usually someone dislocates a shoulder! That Mark on the goal line at the start of the video, means a certain goal as the player then takes a kick at the goal directly in front. That mark #3 is HIGHLY questionable as the player, Gary Ablett, did not hold the ball for long enough. If u r ever down in Melbourne many of us will shout u a few beers and take u to games.

  • @michaelfink64
    @michaelfink64 Месяц назад +1

    Don't worry about the whingers; you are doing a great job, especially given this is all new to you. To explain the Jay Schultz mark on the goal line, he was a forward and the ball was kicked by his team mate. It probably would have been a goal anyway (and probably was if you look at replays of the mark on other videos), but he took the mark to make sure it wasn't touched by an opponent, which would have resulted in a behind, and maybe a bit just because he wanted to take a "specky" (spectacular mark). The key is whether the mark is completed before the whole ball crosses the back of the goal line. If it is, it is a mark. If the marks occurs entirely behind the goal line, it is a goal. If the ball is juggled, with the ball being touched on or in front of the goal line and then the mark is completed behind the goal line, that is a behind. You are correct: everyone loves these. A mark like these is probably the only time you will see a fan of the opposing team applaud the feat. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) players tend to have an amazing flair for the game. I think it would be worth having a look at some to react to. Here are three of the best: ruclips.net/video/APZYRuVK9QM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/hidnYuGXLPk/видео.html ruclips.net/video/bi_FeHxHaqg/видео.html

    In case no-one has mentioned it - if a player takes off for a "speccy" over the top of other players but doesn't get his hand(at least) on the ball, it's a free kick for the other team (based on it being a push in the back mostly). That's another aspect of why high flyers have to get their timing right.

    It’s funny that every single American reactor always talks about how demoralising the action must be. Yes it can hurt and yes you don’t want it done on you but in Australia we never really talk about “posterising” someone. It’s not really part of our culture. We just celebrate the good action .

    Rule clarification: For a goal (6 points) to be awarded, the last action on the ball has to be a kick by an attacking player. So the last thing for the ball to have been touched is below the knee of the attacker (although it may bounce along the ground before going through the goals). That's why defenders will try to touch or punch the ball when it is near the goal line. If it is touched (by either team or kicked by a defender) before crossing the line, it's a behind (1 point) regardless of which posts it goes through. Hence that's why some of the marks are on the goal line taken by the attacking team. If they catch and control the ball before it crosses the line, a mark is paid and they can get an unimpeded kick for goal, right in front. If they don't attempt a mark, they risk it being touched before going through the goals.

    It was his team Port Adelaide who kicked it. Jay Schultz was a forward player and as marked the ball before it went over the goal line, he can go back and take a kick. Depending on how good the kick is, if it goes thru for a goal, 6 points, if abehind 1 point. If it hits the goal post 1 point, and if it hits the behind post, it is out on the full and a free kick to the opposition. Go the Power! (Port Adelaide)

    The only difference between an underarm volleyball serve is that you can drop the ball and then hit it. In Aussie Rules, you have to punch the ball out of your hand. If you drop the ball, then hit it, it is "incorrect disposal" and will result in a free kick

    If he Marks (catches) the ball he gets to have an uninterrupted kick.
    There is NO score.
    Because he was deemed to have Marked the ball, had control before it went over the goal line, so he has a kick.
    If the mark was not paid then it would have been one (1) point as it went over the goal line.

    You do you buddy, forget the whingers.
    For me there's 7 marks in this video I'd instantly remove because imo they're dropped marks or fumbled after landing, when the ball comes loose before they land = dropped mark for me and shouldn't be on any top 50 of all time video. These are No49 Nic Nat, No24 Trevor Barker, No22 Stephen Silvagni and No20 Michael Roach.
    The other 3 are marks where the ball comes loose after they land, also are not worthy of a top 50 list.
    These are No45 Brent Montgomery, No35 Jeremy Howe, No03 Gary Ablett.
    On top of this as you mention at the start of your video, there are marks in the last 7 years that easily replace marks in this list, personally I reckon there's about 20 in recent years that better.
    10:45 It was the offensive team that kicked it and marked it. Because he marked it on the goal line it was paid a mark and he would kick for goal only 5 metres out.
    If he had marked the ball behind the goal line, it would not have been paid but would have been a goal to his team anyway.
    If anyone had touched the ball before the goal line as it went through, then this is known as a "Rushed Behind" and worth only 1 point.
    Another note: The ball has to be COMPLETELY over the line for it to be a goal or out of bounds, the ball is the only thing that matters in this regard, not the players.
    Players can be outside the line, as long as the ball is inside or ON the line then everything is OK.
