    I just installed the same mount on my 2017 KTM SA-T. Just a heads up, I installed a Garmin 396 not a 590. If you install a 396 on that particular SW-Motech mount you'll need to
    cut a small hole in the plate for the cable. On the 590 the power port is on the side (as you see in Mario's video), on the 396 it's on the back, thus you have to cut a hole
    (I just used a dremel) otherwise the GPS mount won't fasten correctly/flush to the SW-Motech plate.
    Easy to do, and I think the SW-Motech puts the GPS in the perfect spot on a 1290 SA-T.....
    sorry forgot to take a photo of it which would of help explain what I had to do.....

    Great video. I used the KTM power parts gps mount that hangs from the two windscreen uprights. Neat idea but doesn't seem very sturdy. Don't know how long it will last. I think I'll start over and go your way eventually with the SW Motech setup. Also you routed the wiring better than I did so I'll mimic that when I upgrade. Nicely done.

      Thanks Bryan! I really liked the idea behind the KTM PP had read it wasn't very very sturdy. With the 590LM being so heavy I didn't want to chance it. SW Motech mount is very sturdy, nice and looks "factory."

      update: I finally installed the SW Motech mount and routed everything the way you did in the video. It does work great and looks factory. I also mated the mount with the Touratech Zumo 590 LM locking mount (all the holes line up) and once closed does not restrict the view of the bike's guages. Now I can lock up the GPS when I go into the store or restaurant.

    I figured out a different way to access ACC2 and have perfectly "clean" wiring. You can remove the three fasteners which hold on the gauge cluster. The cluster can be moved out of the way, revealing the rubber seal / gasket. This has an opening for the gauge wire connecter to pass. You can pry out the rubber seal and easily reach the ACC2 connectors and then run the GPS wire along side the cluster wire. Works great...I even fit all the wiring/fuse/DC converter in there.

    Wondering why you chose AC1 constant power instead of AC2 with key? Not that I think its wrong just wanting your thoughts?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 лет назад

      +sttm4 good question. 1) sometimes I'm adding in a destination while the switch is off 2) reminds me to remove it before leaving the bike 3) it's the same way I had it hooked up on my FJR (constant power). I thought about hooking it up the other way but decided this way worked better for me. Thanks for watching and taking the time to ask my thoughts. Much appreciated.

    • @sttm4

      The first two on point with me. I didn't like stuffing all that wire in the headlight but I did. I ordered another motorcycle mount for my 690 SMC so I could switch them from bike to bike. I did take the new mount apart and removed the one big connector that had all those unnecessary wires . The power was actually on its own connector so it was super easy. Siliconed it up and actually shortened up the power wires for hook up behind my head light. If I do your headlight mod I might do the same to the mount on the 1290. Hating all those wires. Loving the bike but wishing it had a spot to lock up a helmet. It doesn't fit in the back case. Any suggestions? Lastly do you think that bikes too big for the Touratech Rally in PA coming up in August ? Not sure if its my thing they look like they go awful slow looks more like a tour then a enduro/daul sport.

      @2WR  7 лет назад

      Good idea for switching bike to bike. I too wish we had a way to lock the helmets. My FJR bags would fit a full face in the bags but on long trips that was no good since we had them full of clothes. We started using a HelmetLok and cable amzn.to/2sNTFu6 to keep our helmets safe when we left them with the bike. I'd be sure to change out the stock tires for some TKC 70s or 80s if you decide to ride that rally. Guys ride it on the 1190; I see no reason the 1290 SA couldn't do it (with the proper tires).

    Hi, am confused: in one video you suggest the whole headlight assembly come out to wire into the ACC2 but in this video you suggest you can get there from below. I looked but can't see those plugs on mine :( is it not the same on every Super Adventure?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 лет назад

      I had the headlight assembly pulled to work on something and just made it easier to show the wiring. You should be able to reach the ACC wires without removing it.

    Where can I find a mounting bracket for the Garmin that fits an Indian Roadmaster

    • @2WR
      @2WR  6 лет назад

      Myron, I would check out RAM. I used one of their mounts on my Yamaha FJR1300. You can probably build a custom setup to fit your bike.

    I bought the Garmin 595 and the SW-Motech platform ... works great. It's a bit tricky to remove the rear screw (2:31 of your video), but doable with only one 4 letter word :). Using a microUSB to power it (via cigarette light adapter), but will have it directly wired to accessory 1 soon.
    Thanks.

    Hey 2 Wheel, this is the guy from Man. Gotta question for ya. Since you do a ton of riding who better to ask this question. If money is not an issue, what absolute top of the line gps would u recommend? Thanks, Ed

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 лет назад

      Ed, I believe the 590 has since been updated to the 595. If I were buying on today, that's the one I'd get. That said, I see no reason to upgrade from the 590 that I currently have.

      Shouldn't be any different that the wiring on my bike. The electronics and hookups are the same on both.

  • @MojoUX

    Dang! I love the place you mounted your GPS. I like the clean nature. However, it looks like SW-Motech doesn't make one for the '18 SA-S (or R, I guess). The TFT screen looks like it takes the space you'd need. Any thoughts--having ridden and seen the '18, any thoughts whether this one might fit? Thanks in advance--love your vids.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  6 лет назад

      Joe, I know for sure the mount I used won't work on the R model (which I recently reviewed) due to the TFT display. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything that'll put the GPS in a similar position as mine on the R model yet. I'd have thought it would be out by now if the aftermarket companies were going to make it.

      Danggity dang dang! Thanks, Mario 'Preciate it. I'll go with the handlebar mount on the left for now (X-Grip is on the right side for the iPhone).

    I have the identical setup- the SW-Motech bracket is great, in a really good location.
    I upgraded to the 590 from the 390 because that was just too small and the 590 has a much better screen for direct sunlight.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 лет назад

      Never tried out the 390 but the 590 is great. I did try some other brackets but nothing tops the SW-Motech.

    v informative vid , well constructed and concise . Just wondering how stable is the sat nav now that it is in situ ? I've fitted the KTM pp mount and find it vibrates badly . Would you recommend motech bracket ?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 лет назад

      I'd read the KTM pp mount vibrated a lot so I first ordered the KTM pp (actually made my SW Motech) bar mount. The mount itself was fine but I really wanted the GPS above the gauges.
      I've had this SW Motech on the bike for about 3k mile now and highly recommend it. Absolutely no vibration at all.

    Hi Mario, when you took the clocks out to run the wires down, can you get to the headlight bulbs in there, or are they accesed from underneath ?, maybe a bulb change video 1 day please ?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 лет назад

      No, you have some additional stuff that needs to be removed in order to access the headlight bulbs. Looks like you may get your wish of a bulb change video very soon.

    Great video. My Mount is on order and will fit next week. Did you have to take the side panel off to get to the ACC's? Also what position did you put the audio wires?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 лет назад

      Once you get that plastic shroud under the fairing removed, you'll have access to the ACC without have to take any additional panels off. Just reach up underneath the power socket; KTM left you some connectors ready to go. What to you mean about the audio wires?

    Since you've had it on for awhile whats your long term opinion? My bike came with the OEM one but I'm considering swapping it out. I've seen some people say the SW Motech one blocks the tac.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 лет назад

      Which OEM one do you have? One mounts up top like the one on mine while the other (actually made my SW Motech) mounts on the handlebar. I tried the KTM PP handlebar mount one and found it blocked the gauges enough (with the Zumo 590LM), that I didn't like it. I love the one on mine and wouldn't think of switching to another. As for it blocked the tach, I couldn't remember that happening so I just went out to the bike to double check; perfectly clear view.

    • @dgravatt
      @dgravatt 7 лет назад

      I have the Power Parts one that mounts on the windscreen brackets. It vibrates a bit and on hard hits it really moves.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  7 лет назад

      That's what I kept reading about it. That it was a good idea but vibrated too much.

    • @2WR

      +davewhyte69 fortunately no. I’ve had the headlight area apart a few times since for other reasons and the wiring harness is still good. It even made it 120 miles through Death Valley with no ill effects.

      2 Wheeled Rider I just wired mine in this afternoon, I tied the extra length of cable to the mount, and ran it down the left side and under the 12 volt acc plug. Connected to the acc 2 cables. All looks ok, I'll see how it goes next week when the weather clears. Thanks for the reply mate.
