We test out the Duct Tape / Gumtape Deathmatch featured in the TV series "Initial D" to see if it's as absurd as it sounds. Taping a hand to the steering wheel seems like a recipe for a crash on the touge / mountain pass, which explains why nobody has attempted it in real life - until now.

Actually, if you're using an older FF car, you might actually managed to pull it off. On sharp turns, try to yank the handbrake to lock the rear wheel to achieve a smaller turning radius to compensate the restrictions on your hand. A quick acceleration may recover the car from a slide. The Lancer might not perform the same way due to a wee bit longer wheelbase and weighs more than say, an EG. If you drive slower, like on the video, the car might not gonna have the perfect momentum to perform what I said. Try to do it on a open space and mock up a track. Just my two cents. Oh, btw, I just clicked subscribed.

so many things wrong with this test making it pointless. Different cars have different steering ratios...whether you have a big old steering wheel or a small aftermarket wheel, FR, FF, AWD....all these things are big factors into whether or not you could drive with your hand tapped to the wheel and thus limiting your turning input. FR would let you clutch kick...FF you could hand brake...not sure if AWD would be easier or harder. Basically, you could setup a car to make the job easier (basically what the driver of the EG did by picking that car) All that youtube bitching aside...I wouldn't want to attempt it in any car. Regular "quick" driving is one thing, but having your steering angle limited will get you into trouble when the car starts to lose control.

Here’s my take; You are gripping, Shingo was using weight transfer and handbrake to swing the rear end of his EG6 to break traction and then mashing the throttle to ease out of the skid, and aim towards the corner exit. You are going about this very cautiously, if you don’t commit, it’ll be more disastrous than if you fully committed and failed. I don’t blame you tho lmao, you’re actually a mad lad for trying this in real life ON A REAL-ASS ROAD. Kudos.
