I have retroarch running on my gaming pc but I don’t always like to sit at a desk. I’m going to install it on fire stick 4k max, but anything past n64 would probably struggle. So I thought why not my Xbox series x???? Don’t have to pair and map a controller and it’s very powerful!! I’m still going to install it on fire stick bc it’s easy and I don’t really play much besides genesis, nes, snes and it could handle that. I wish you didn’t need to pay to get it on apple devices bc I’d like it on my iPad Pro and Apple TV 4K. Maybe even my iPad mini 6 for portability. I know you can pay services to sign you device up for about $15 bc I’m not going to pay $100/year just to install one app!!
Sometimes the Apps get removed for a few hours due to MS pulling them down but they always get reuploaded, if it has a blank store page, try in a few hours. You can hop into my discord (which is on my about page) and I can help you if you need help setting anything else up regarding RetroArch.
*I discovered I can just transfer games to the Q drive and have the games I want stored internally, Power Stone games run insane on Flycast in 4K, it's like the Dreamcast has been given another life on this system lol 😅*
When I try to open a ps2 game or a GameCube/wii game it only gives me like 5 suggested cores and doesn’t show the dolphins emulator or pcx2. I did everything in the video too
@@KongsNutz I had to unzip the files because they were .7z files haha but now Everytime I load up a ps2 games the bios comes up but it goes into the menu showing the memory card and the disc and when I click the disc the screen fades out then fades back into the same menu
@@Skylinekid372 In the video i mentioned if that happens to turn on "Fast Boot" in the options, save core override and exit RA and then boot the game again. Itll skip the bios now.
Assuming you're trying to boot GameCube and that error is a GameCube error which means you've installed the bios correctly but there's an issue with your iso file. Make sure it's not zipped bit an actual .iso or .gcm only. .RVZ does not work on the Dolphin Core
Question for you I’m new to emulation but I’ve finally gotten the pcsx2 to boot up on my Xbox. When I go to run the game I have it loads to where the memory card and ps2 disc are on screen, I click the disc and it black screens briefly only to return to the memory card and disc screen again and again. The game is an iso file. Am I missing something?

The Gamr13 github uploads have been refreshed try in a few hours, also you can try opening your MS Store on the Xbox as that clears the cache of the edge browser too.
So if I get a series x which have a CD/DVD insert would I still need retroarch? I ask because I'm not sure if my nfl 2k is backwards compatible with the series x or not
So if I just want to play GameCube and Wii can I just install retroarch and do the updates and then plug in the hard drive and play? I’m not interested in any other emulation
You will need to do the dolphin download stuff i cover and when i do the FTP the dolphin folder needs to go in the right place but yes after that GC and Wii will just work

Just spent $109 on a 5tb 3.0 external hard drive and spent the whole day getting angry at dev mode screwing with my Xbox forcing it to factory reset And I had to spend the $20 for dev mode when I could have just done this the entire time.
For Dreamcast you'll need the Dreamcast Bios, PS1 if you use the core PCSX-ReArmed you don't need a Bios, however DuckStation/SwanStation is the best core for PS1 and it does require a Bios.
@@KongsNutz yea. I never managed to play ps2 games on previous versions of retroarch and that is the main reason I activated dev mode. I even did factory reset and still got weird directory structure.
@@elvirbaltic4149 yeah, your dev mode bricked. you can try doing OSU from usb(twice), but there no guarantee that it will work. it a bug that been around for awhile, no idea why microsoft or xbox haven't fixed it. you can always use retail mode, it should be unaffected.

@@BrownFootBill Things change when they update the app, look for RetroArch but you need to atleast run it once and make a save in a game before it'll show up, try running a nes rom from a USB or something first. Its a bit tricky sometimes before it shows up. This is why I'm making a dedicated Dev-Mode guide on the discord as that is super reliable.
Can you use a Seagate external hard drive with this and not format it so I can keep all the games I already have or would I have to re download the games I have after its formatted

So RetroArch doesn't support any OG Xbox or 360 games as those emulators don't have CORES for any version of RA, as for the Discs, not in the current release. On PC RetroArch it's now possible to use Physical Media but not currently on Xbox. You can however make a rip of your own games using PC software and play them from a HDD. Hope that helps :)
Yeh Retro Arch asset downloading on the latest version is a bit dicey, uninstall the whole thing and try again, sometimes it'll freeze on the latest one... really annoying bug. You'll get it eventually
When I connect to my Xbox I'm not getting the huge drives list... I only get LOCALFOLDER, DRIVES & one more folder but they are all empty. More so, I went into retail mode and then back to Dev Mode and now all the installed files (RetroArch & Durango FTP) have disappeared. Does anyone know what Im doing wrong? I have followed this step by step.

@@GotCamel When you install RetroArch, go into it and load a rom from USB and make a save state. Then the drives should show up. It could also be that your windows doesn't show protected files/folders.
@@KongsNutz So I was able to get the emulator to work but I still cant see all of the drives like you show in the video. I even made hidden files and folders viewable. I wonder if it has anything to do with any new updates to DevMode. Either way, I got it working off the USB and appreciate your help!

@@pluvse Yes, the limit is just a hard limit on the app loader, I'm not sure if you can use the extended memory as extra memory using this method as I don't have one to test.

@@pboprebru5979 Someone else made it show up by playing a game and making a save state with RetroArch first. Pop a small game in a USB, run it and make a save state.
I had one at launch but sold it to my Brother in-law shortly after since I wasn't playing it and now learning of the Liquid Metal issue some are having I'll wait for a revision. :)

@@KongsNutz it’s on the same network I think I figured out what the issue is and might help others. I think the network I use Netgear is a secured network and won’t let things like that work if it’s a “threat” without adjusting the security settings. It’s like a business network. With that being said I tried my phone hotspot and it worked.
No, I've now had this for a few years the most MS do is kill the apps on the store and that doesn't affect your already installed apps. It just means to redownload it youll have to use the site again.

Xbox One? Yeh well it's mostly you just need a pretty powerful CPU to run PCSX, I'm sure if someone actually designed a PS2 Emulator for Xbox One from scratch it could possibly.
Is Not the xbox it's the emulator and the creators. I'm running pcsx2 perfectly fine only flaw is u can only load 1 game and in order to play another ps2 game u gotta close out retroarch, open it back up n select another game. But my xbox series x is running pcsx2 just fine off a 5tb external hd I run everything off of no internal storage gets used for retroarch
You'll need to google them as you see them in the video or google RetroArch Bios collection (im sure someone has uploaded a pack) but thats all i can help with unfortunately
@@andysmith839 okay so after digging you can add both DW3 and 3XL isos together by making a .m3u file with both iso names in it and loading that file in RetroArch, this will allow you to Swap Discs in RetroArch menu :)

Double check that youve downloaded Core Info Files, that is what associates the .iso file extensions to each emulator.

I literally followed the whole thing but but i get ERROR: system failed to boot. The log may contain more information??
Assuming you're trying to boot GameCube and that error is a GameCube error which means you've installed the bios correctly but there's an issue with your iso file. Make sure it's not zipped bit an actual .iso or .gcm only. .RVZ does not work on the Dolphin Core

You could play the AtomisWave (arcade) version using the Dreamcast core in RetroArch

You skipped a step, turn on Fast Boot in pcsx2 options for region free booting, it'll skip the bios. :)

All my folders on xbox are empty except D drive. And when I locate Retroarch folder there is no system folder in it.

You don't "need" a PC but you will need to use something that has an FTP client to read and send files to the Xbox. Phones can do that also.

You can't use a Seagate extension drive for this, only the internal and USB drives

When you switch to Retail mode you get the option to wipe Dev mode. You have to choose keep apps.

Try not to use Zipped roms
@@KongsNutz I unzipped the rom using 7zip and changed the file extension from .wbfs to .iso and its still doing the exact same thing as before?
@@benshawn5536 .wbfs is fine for a Wii game. Definitely unzipping that was the way to go, try and load the .wbfs

@@pboprebru5979 Someone else made it show up by playing a game and making a save state with RetroArch first. Pop a small game in a USB, run it and make a save state.

Sure you can use a Phone with an FTP app

@@itsxrainnx The same things I do with FileZilla you can do with a Phone FTP app, you'll need to log into the Xbox IP the FTP on the Xbox gives you.

@@KongsNutz thats nice 😊to be honest i would not be able to bring myself to do something like that unless i was trading it in😓also the slim might be coming out earlier than expected like maybe late 2023 but we will probably be waiting awhile for ps5 pro, sony is working to make smaller cheaper but more effective parts parts for ps5

I’ve tried this and dev mode version and when I type my IP it doesn’t connect. Says could not connect to server on filezilla and on my browser? Any way to fix??
Double check the xbox and the pc are on the same network, double check the port number the xbox gives.
@@KongsNutz it’s on the same network I think I figured out what the issue is and might help others. I think the network I use Netgear is a secured network and won’t let things like that work if it’s a “threat” without adjusting the security settings. It’s like a business network. With that being said I tried my phone hotspot and it worked.

No, I've now had this for a few years the most MS do is kill the apps on the store and that doesn't affect your already installed apps. It just means to redownload it youll have to use the site again.

Xbox One? Yeh well it's mostly you just need a pretty powerful CPU to run PCSX, I'm sure if someone actually designed a PS2 Emulator for Xbox One from scratch it could possibly.
Is Not the xbox it's the emulator and the creators. I'm running pcsx2 perfectly fine only flaw is u can only load 1 game and in order to play another ps2 game u gotta close out retroarch, open it back up n select another game. But my xbox series x is running pcsx2 just fine off a 5tb external hd I run everything off of no internal storage gets used for retroarch

Yes it does but you wont be able to run GameCube or PS2 stuff well but i believe up to Dreamcast runs okay.

You'll need to google them as you see them in the video or google RetroArch Bios collection (im sure someone has uploaded a pack) but thats all i can help with unfortunately

@@andysmith839 Im not familiar with that particular game but if its multi disc you can usually save before loading the next disc.
@@KongsNutz yes but through retroarch there is no disc so how would it work
@@andysmith839 okay so after digging you can add both DW3 and 3XL isos together by making a .m3u file with both iso names in it and loading that file in RetroArch, this will allow you to Swap Discs in RetroArch menu :)

You have to have Dev mode now but I will be making a video on how best to go about that very soon. Don't be out of by Dev Mode whilst it's a 1 time small payment it's very easy to use.
